Copyright investigations (manual article tagging)
  • Sorry, but I don't think this is quite fixed yet. While a few places have been rewritten, large parts of the text are still cutpasted from the original source. This is maybe most obvious in the Tributes section, but it applies to much of the rest of the article as well... Jafeluv ( talk) 07:53, 28 October 2013 (UTC) reply
  • Actually, the site that you note above was only created in early 2013. Since much of the article was created far earlier than that, they copied from us rather than the other way around, unless you found another link that originated earlier. Wizardman 14:29, 28 October 2013 (UTC) reply
  • Hmm, might be that the site I linked is not the original source, but that IP edit is clearly copied from different sources without even adding markup or changing the wording. The "influence looming large" portion could be from [3], although Allmusic's URL structure changes make it difficult to look for earlier versions of the page. It doesn't help these investigations that many sites – even "respectable" ones like the Hollywood Walk of Fame – blatantly reuse Wikipedia material without attribution and even add their own "(c) All rights reserved" tags to the content. Anyway, the part following the Allmusic text is from [4], which has existed at least since February 2008, but it remains unclear whether it's really older than the 2007 edit. The article then continues with more material from the Allmusic page (starting with "though several of Eckstine's first hits..." and including the entire following paragraph). This part is actually included in the 2002 print version of All Music Guide, predating the WP edit by some five years. The "his best record of the fifties..." part is again from the Verve page, as is the paragraph starting with "lacking an interest in the blues..." Jafeluv ( talk) 15:31, 28 October 2013 (UTC) reply
  • Ouch, yup that IP edit just yanked everything from allmusic, the dup. detector shows that clearly. Enough of it has been reworded that I'll have to go through it slowly and take out pieces, which is better for the article even if it does take a lot longer.
