Nominator's rationale:Purported is a known
expression of doubt which instills bias and disbelief in readers affected by its use. Not surprisingly, this category's member articles are rife in doubtful tone as the mere presence of such a category legitimizes the use of such expression, and confounds efforts to write in
neutral prose. On the other hand, Unconfirmed is sufficiently objective to identify category members, and sufficiently neutral to avoid the inculcation of doubt in our readers.--

Oppose, most of the articles are about hoaxes, which do not belong in an 'unconfirmed' category.
Marcocapelle (
talk) 17:56, 19 April 2018 (UTC)reply
That is an interesting consideration; I agree that "hoaxes" do not belong in a category of unconfirmed members. Do you believe (if I may ask) that "hoaxes" are a proper fit for the category whose members are "purported" to be ...? My inclination is that they are not a good fit; misplaced equally in either of the given choices. I still believe, if not even more so, that a thing "purported to be anything", is an unconfirmed thing (to be sure) and that "unconfirmed" can fully contain the legitimate membership of things "purported to be". I am open to gladly consider other titles, if something is obviously better, I'm less enthusiastic about keeping the status quo intact by doing nothing. Do you not agree with the MoS encouragement to avoid using expressions of doubt, or the given reason for cause?--

Support. When I made this category, I figured that a city of 1.2 million people would have more than just one newspaper article. Seems I was wrong. Actually, I think that at the time I made it (and a lot of similar media by city categories) there were far more articles - I usually set a minimum of four articles before I consider making a new category in a tree like this. I'm pretty sure there's been some amalgamation of radio station articles into networks.
