Nominator's rationale:Delete Overcategorization per
WP:OVERCAT, geographical boundary does not necessarily have any relevant bearing on awards, the category title is so vague that it's useless, and award recipients of notable awards should already be grouped in lists with appropriate information, making this category obsolete per
WP:OC#AWARD. (Apart from all that, the capitalization of "civil awards" is also wrong.)

Nominator's rationale: The Speedy nomination below ran aground on a concern that people in this category died before South Sudan came into official existence. I disagree with that assessment. South (or Southern) Sudan existed as a geographic, political, and ethnic region for decades before gaining full independence, and the people in this category appear to all be South Sudanese. So I think this should follow the format of the rest of the subcategories of
Category:South Sudanese people.--

Object - Not all Southern Sudanese politicians are South Sudanese politicians. For example,
Dominic Dim Deng died 3 years before the political entity "South Sudan" came into existence. I realize that the category description sets out a broad scope for the category, but this description was added
relatively recently (and nearly 9 months after the category was created). I think we need separate categories for political officeholders in the governments of Southern Sudan and South Sudan. In fact, this problem is present throughout
Category:South Sudanese people; for example,
Manute Bol is categorized as an activist of South Sudanese nationality, even though he died a year before South Sudan's independence. -- Black Falcon(

Point taken. I still think we need a new category for current politicians, but how to categorize former politicians in the former government is a more touchy issue.

Keep This invites a gray area. Lets keep it simple and define south sudanese politicians as exclusively and clearly ones who come from the now nascent polity.

Comment. Someone has already moved a bunch of the articles that were in this category to
Category:South Sudanese politicians, but then that category was deleted because they blanked the page. The articles remain in the red-linked category, however, and one way or another I suspect that category needs to result, either as a wholesale rename or as a different category.
Good Ol’factory(talk) 03:37, 25 July 2011 (UTC)reply
Neither keep nor Rename - Both categories are inaccurate for current politicians in
South Sudan.
Category:South Sudan politicians is a much more appropriate category, and if any name would not fall into that due to being from the autonomous government, we'd need a category for that as a sub-category;
Category:Southern Sudan politicians works for this, but we can also use something identifying that they are from the autonomous governments up to 2011.

Rename as proposed. As the nominator points out, the concept of "South Sudan" dates back to the colonial era, a region inhabited by South Sudanese. With the rename, the category neatly covers politicians from this region who were active before and/or after independence. I see no value in a separate "post-independence" category, since virtually every member of the post-independence category will also belong in the pre-independence category. One category is enough, at least for now.

Nominator's rationale: There is a well established precedent of deleting categories such as these. I can't find the exact link, but I know for a fact there was a "Category:Virginia Sports Hall of Fame inductees" discussion that resulted in deletion. This is overcategorization at its finest.

Delete. We already have a whole tree of sport specific categories for Virginia Tech. With the amount of cats many sportspeople are in, there is no reason that a notable football player should end up in two for his time at Virginia Tech, one is sufficient.
