Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic for some edits. Later, manually assisted. (See below.)
Programming Language(s): Perl
Function Overview: Removes {{ reqimage}} from plant articles with images, and suggest Commons images for others.
Edit period(s): One time through, or in small batches
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Y
Function Details: For each article in Category:Plant articles needing photos, I will search to see if there's a "|image = something" in a {{ taxobox}} template. If so, I'll remove the "|needs-photo=yes" parameter from the {{ WikiProject Plants}} template on the talk page. (Example: Actinidia chinensis) That part is automatic. If there is not an image in the taxobox, I'll search for a Commons:Actinidia chinensis or Commons:Category:Actinidia chinensis, and if found, I'll add the plant article to a list in the bot's userspace. I'll later manually go through the list to see if images can be added to the taxoboxes. That's the manually-assisted part.
Sound pretty straight forward. I do wonder how you will know if a plant photo is really the correct plant (in step 2), but that's not really part of the bot task (since it will be your judgment and not the bot's) so no objections from me. -- ThaddeusB ( talk) 15:02, 28 April 2009 (UTC) reply

Excellent! Trial complete. I've gone over the results, and I'm quite happy with them. The hits for matches (to be checked manually) were mostly false positives -- range maps, specifically -- but it did find File:Acacia tenuifolia.PNG, which I placed (manually) in Acacia tenuifolia. – Quadell ( talk) 23:24, 2 May 2009 (UTC) reply
Approved. Looks good. Consider batching the updates to
User:Polbot/photo ops, though.
