Body of water mislabeled as a community. The linked school district map and all topos up to 2011 clearly show Stinking Bay as a cut-off river segment, and newspaper articles mention it only in terms of fishing and other water-related contexts.   • Looks like a delete - Yep, just a body of water. Found a couple listings in old fishing stuff just stating that you could catch perch and crappie here. Another short mention establishes that the name Stinking Bay originates from a cavalry battle where the dead horses decomposed in the lake, but everything else is just trivial mentions in the vein of "lol stink".
