Nature reserves and national parks are not the same thing, they are completely separate designations. Prince of Thieves ( talk) 19:54, 3 March 2018 (UTC) — Striking per WP: SOCKSTRIKE. -- Malcolmxl5 ( talk) 00:54, 24 March 2018 (UTC) reply
  • Redirect [was "Keep" but see my comment below] I too would think that Nature reserves are different than National parks, from usage elsewhere in the world, though there could be overlapping areas. But why does the current list of nature reserves only list places named X National Park? Seems like some development is needed, and/or tagging for improvement. The two lists are NOT duplicates. -- Doncram ( talk) 22:14, 3 March 2018 (UTC) reply
From this Sri Lanka Safari .Com source, there is Sinharaja Rain Forest and five other forest reserves, marine sanctuaries, etc., which seem to be nature reserves and which are not named "National Park". -- Doncram ( talk) 22:18, 3 March 2018 (UTC) reply
Protected areas of Sri Lanka has sections which explain the difference between parks vs. reserves, having to do with public access allowed or not. Since Nature Reserves seem to be a thing, it is fine to have a list of them, with pictures and sources and so on. -- Doncram ( talk) 22:21, 3 March 2018 (UTC) reply
There seems to have been move-warring/edit-warring going on with the article, where one editor is changing "Nature Reserve" to "nature reserve" in the article title and another changing the other way. There is a content dispute and behavioural stuff going on. AFD is probably not the right venue for dealing with this. -- Doncram ( talk) 22:29, 3 March 2018 (UTC) reply
The dispute was two years ago, not necessarily an issue here. But good one on the research about the difference between parks and reserves. Prince of Thieves ( talk) 22:40, 3 March 2018 (UTC) — Striking per WP: SOCKSTRIKE. -- Malcolmxl5 ( talk) 00:54, 24 March 2018 (UTC) reply

  • I'd prefer to keep the national parks list intact and linked as it currently is from Protected areas (due to size considerations, among other things), but the latter is by far the best article. Nature reserves is definitely the runt of the litter. Clarityfiend ( talk) 00:01, 12 March 2018 (UTC) reply

But there's no material to merge, so redirect is the correct decision, IMHO. The current list covers just national parks, and just provides their year of creation and their area (in acres and in hectares, oddly in two separate columns rather than using convert template in one column). All that and more is in List of national parks of Sri Lanka, which is effectively a sub-article of the protected area list-article. -- Doncram ( talk) 17:43, 18 March 2018 (UTC) reply

Technically there is a difference between merge and redirect. Merge requires there to be content to be merged, not present here. I believe Clarityfiend is supporting redirect to the protected areas list. Sorry about the repetition, but this AFD seems bizarre to me. -- Doncram ( talk) 16:54, 29 March 2018 (UTC) reply
But that makes no sense! The topic "list of nature reserves in Sri Lanka" should redirect to the existing list of nature reserves (within the protected areas list, as Clarifyfiend suggests), not to a different list. And the content, a list of national parks, is already in the list of national parks, so there is nothing to merge. I dunno why this would be suggested. -- Doncram ( talk) 16:50, 29 March 2018 (UTC) reply
Good enough. I honestly can't justify why i keep checking back here. That comment seems to support redirect or merge, and there is nothing to merge, so IMHO it supports "redirect". -- Doncram ( talk) 23:47, 31 March 2018 (UTC) reply
Yes, you're right, there's nothing to merge. Redirect it is.-- Obi2canibe ( talk) 18:31, 1 April 2018 (UTC) reply
