Keep news article yesterday from The Guardian
here states his death is causing an ICE agency-wide review. Also seen other articles mentioning vigils and protests in different cities across the US. Seems like this death goes beyond BLP1E territory.

Leaning keep per
Rab V, or possibly move to draft pending likely additional reporting. I will add the Guardian reference to the article.

Keep per
Rab V. "The lawmakers demanded that ICE give a briefing and documentation by May 22 on the death of Carlos Ernesto Escobar Mejia, who died of complications from COVID-19 while in custody." (

Keep per
WP:SIGCOV. I disagree with the nominator's assertion that this meets all three requirements listed in
WP:BLP1E (specifically conditions 2 and 3). Point 2 states that a biography for an otherwise low-profile individual should be redirected to the event which is exactly the case here:
Carlos Ernesto Escobar Mejía. The significant coverage in
WP:RS and responses by numerous
WP:N organizations and officials seems to contradict the claim that "the event is not significant."
