Content fork,
original research, almost no references (not a reason for deletion but illustrates the likely original research), and an
essay; it is a list of former French possessions in India combined with likely original research on why/how they were handed back to India, not an encyclopedia article. Maybe each of those discrete parts might be encyclopedic, but as of now, it is just an unencyclopedic essay.

Oppose -- This is a horrid article, but contains significant content which we do not have elsewhere in WP.
French establishments in India is a long article, which is cluttered up by including a long list of governors and commissioners. If that were moved to a separate list article, there would be plenty of space for merging the section of the article under discussion as a new section "End of French India". Several of the territories unilaterally decided to join the Indian republic and the rest followed. According to something I heard (not necessarily true) it may be that residents of these territories are entitled to French citizenship, which in turn entitles them to work in EU. Thus perhaps this is not as dead a topic as it might appear.
