Under the original system established by Article Two of the U.S. Constitution, electors cast votes for two different candidates for president. The candidate with the highest number of votes became the president, and the second-place candidate became the vice president. There was not a 1796 Vice Presidential Election, and this article gives the false impression that there was. It is also content fork, covering the same subject matter as the 1796 United States presidential election article. Drdpw ( talk) 21:47, 4 December 2022 (UTC)
