It is located in the west of the oblast. The area of the district is 4,061 square kilometers (1,568 sq mi). [2] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Ust-Tarka. [1] Population: 12,307 ( 2010 Census); [3] 14,670 ( 2002 Census); [6] 15,405 ( 1989 Soviet census). [7] The population of Ust-Tarka accounts for 31.0% of the district's total population. [3]
