Brisbane bid

I don't know if I'm the official organiser, but it's not that important that I feel we need to rush. There's probably plenty of other things of interest we could discuss. Hope to see you there either way =). Lankiveil ( complaints | disco) 12:09, 21 January 2008 (UTC). reply

Ack, I'm dumb, I thought you were talking about "organiser of the meet", not the bid =). The reason I've not really spoken about sponsors is that I want to keep those details close to my chest for now. I've lined up some pretty good deals from various government organisations, but no use in letting our competition know about it too quickly. But if you want to fill out some more detail on the bid, I'd welcome that a lot! In particular, we need a good photo to replace that "grey skies" panorama from Kangaroo Point cliffs, and a picture of the actual beach area at Southbank, since that's where we'll be having our BBQ/welcome. Lankiveil ( complaints | disco) 05:52, 26 January 2008 (UTC). reply
Hi there, I've tweaked the bid page some more, and would appreciate your input on it =). Lankiveil ( complaints | disco) 13:12, 29 January 2008 (UTC). reply
I don't think that the water shortage is going to be an issue (any moreso than it was for Alexandria in '08). Maybe if you're planning to move here, but not if you're just visiting for a week/end. Lankiveil ( complaints | disco) 04:28, 2 February 2008 (UTC). reply
I'm not sure that The Alibi Room is that great an idea; while I've really enjoyed it when I've been, it's pretty bohemian. A lot of the VIPs, apart from Foundation people, are going to be our big sponsors, and they are probably going to be of the corporate suit-wearing variety. If we win, I'll keep it in mind though. One or more trips to assess its suitability might be required ;-). Lankiveil ( complaints) 11:22, 12 February 2008 (UTC). reply
Yes, I'm very much in favour of using The Alibi Room as the venue for our next meet, if it's going ahead. Wikimania is still a long way away yet, we've plenty of time to decide. Lankiveil ( complaints) 11:50, 12 February 2008 (UTC). reply
That's pretty poetic; if you can find somewhere to stick it in the bid document, do! On another semi-related matter, would you (or DHMO) be able to pop along to the Q&A page and fill in the bit about the meet? Like, what was discussed bid-wise, and all that? Lankiveil ( complaints) 12:08, 12 February 2008 (UTC). reply

Thanks for letting me know about the Q&A. I'm at work now, but will address it when I get home. Note that the dates have been changed, so we have a couple more weeks to get the answers right. Salka ( talk) 00:47, 15 February 2008 (UTC) (Lankiveil). reply

I'm trying to work out a rough outline of what a guest can expect to pay in Brisbane, here. I'm drawing on my most recent international travel, but can you think of anything else that needs to be included there? This is in response to the Q&A post that has been made. Cheers, Lankiveil ( speak to me) 11:19, 19 February 2008 (UTC). reply

Arbitrary talk page heading

Hi Zero. No, I haven't contacted them; I'm not sure that dorm style accomodation is really what we have in mind, but it is cheap, so I guess suggesting it as a possible alternative on the Q&A page wouldn't hurt. We are trying to get a dedicated sponsor for accomodation and hotels, but we haven't closed anything yet, so basically it's a free-for-all. I am trying to coordinate a list of who we've contacted, but I'm also wary of releasing that list, simply because there are confidentiality concerns when it comes to who we're talking to, we ideally don't want Hotel Chain "A" to know that we're talking with Hotel Chain "B".

I apologise that I've not been about too much in the past few days, I'm kicking my heels up in Dubbo right now and my internet connectivity isn't the best. I'll be back in Brisbane from tomorrow night to clear up anything else that needs to be cleared up before bidding closes though. Lankiveil ( speak to me) 11:45, 25 February 2008 (UTC). reply

Aye, that's why I concentrated on the Palace, which I know is fine with anyone staying. There's also the matter of how interesting budget accomodation is going to be; if you are spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars to travel to Brisbane, you might as well spend a couple of hundred extra for a nice hotel. But this is coming from someone who refuses to stay anywhere less than four stars when they travel ;-).
When (!) we are successful with the bid, I like the idea of a private mailing list, and I'll approach the foundation to see if it can be done. Lankiveil ( speak to me) 12:38, 25 February 2008 (UTC). reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Treasure_Quest-Soundtrack.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Treasure_Quest-Soundtrack.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the " my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast ( talk) 22:41, 1 May 2008 (UTC) reply

Meetup

Hi Zero. DHMO suggested to me the other night that we should have another Brisbane meetup during a weekend on the school holidays. As there is still this page about, would you still be interested in attending during this time period? I think it's been long enough since the last meetup that there'll no longer be wiki-fatigue going on. Please let me know your opinion. Lankiveil ( speak to me) 05:06, 2 June 2008 (UTC). reply

My thoughts exactly! School holidays will hopefully allow the younger guys to come into town, and it's no real disadvantage to those of us who are older (well, unless there are some that want to spend the holidays with their kids, I suppose). Since I figure you're one of the "core" members of the Brisbane community, I thought I'd give you a heads-up beforehand though. I'll make the appropriate posts to the WMAU mailing list, AWNB, etc etc if everyone is happy with that. Lankiveil ( speak to me) 05:22, 2 June 2008 (UTC). reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Megaman2 powerfighters1.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Megaman2 powerfighters1.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the " my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot ( talk) 05:05, 6 September 2008 (UTC) reply

Your ANI on me

Hey, Zero1328, i see by your user page that you are young, but not inexperienced here, so i wonder why you started an ANI on me, in an attempt to "wrap your mind around" my work here. That's not what ANI reports are for. They are to report incidents -- that is, events that have happened -- and in order for administrators to look into these incidents, the person who makes the report is supposed to accompany it with diffs, examples, and a desired outcome. I'd like to "wrap my mind around" your thinking too, but reporting my desire to understand your motivation as an Administrative Noticeboard Incident would not be appropriate, since all i would be reporting is that i am curious about your motives, and that is not an incident. If you have any further questions about me, just ask on my talk page -- i often have time to chat. catherine yronwode Catherineyronwode ( talk) 12:59, 20 September 2008 (UTC) reply

Re: PNG

It's the transparency factor. Apparently it's what other vg project editors seem to favor for articles usually when they're promoted, had it come up with Necrid when I pushed for it to get to A-class, Master Chief (Halo) and other articles seem to use it too. I'm not wild about the filesize boost myself, but I do concede the transparent pngs look better than the JPGs in either case :|-- Kung Fu Man ( talk) 09:41, 29 November 2008 (UTC) reply
