Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Secretlondon ( talk) 15:15, 18 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Requested username:

Request reason:

I did not intend for the user name to appear as if it was representing an organization, it is just the username I tend to use for most things. While I do help run TopCargo200.com, we do not advertise (here or anywhere) nor do we receive any compensation from the site. It exists solely as a repository for public information. I created the account because we collect, collate, and present a massive amount of information about the war in Ukraine. My intent in creating this account was to add this information on pages where it would provide value to Wikipedia. Our work is cited all over Wikipedia and throughout the media due to our high standards of accuracy and transparency. I was not aware of the policy regarding external linking, and will refrain from such actions in the future. My intent in using the external link was not to advertise, but to provide the link so that people could learn more about the topic without cluttering up the main page (which was only tangentially related).

Decline reason:

I don't see where you restated anything, and I have read everything you wrote carefully. I don't get paid to be here, I'm here when I have time, so I'm sorry this hasn't been as quick as you want. If that makes me horrible so be it. I was going to try to help you, but I guess you don't want my help. Since you are no longer interested in editing, there's no need to do anything here. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. 331dot ( talk) 19:59, 13 April 2024 (UTC) reply

Sure thing. And to be clear, my intent is not to talk about or edit about TopCargo200.com. That is simply a site that archives a lot of information about the war in Ukraine. It is a source, and nothing more. As far as the information I would like to add/edit, I can provide a few examples off the top of my head, though there are surely many more:
This page about the 31SGAAB states that the commander, Colonel Sergey Karasev, died at Hostomel Airport in 2022. We know this is inaccurate. He is still alive and has been promoted to command of an army. The statement about his death needs to be removed.
My original edit regarding Tatiana Kosheleva's brother being a Lieutenant Colonel in the Russian Armed Forces who was killed on November 09, 2022, as part of the 137th Guards Airborne Regiment, is another example.
Much of the information on the Order of Battle for the Russian Invasion of Ukraine article is also woefully out of date (and occasionally just plain wrong). I don't claim to be able to fix the whole thing myself... there is so much that needs fixing it would take far more time than I can dedicate. But I can at least fix the most glaring errors.
The last thing off the top of my head that needs editing is the addition of Military Unit Numbers for many of the Russian formations on this site. For example, the page on the 104th Guards Air Assault Division gives no indication of unit number. This is important information to include because often Russian documents only make mention of the unit number, not the actual name of the unit.
Hopefully that gives you a better sense of my intentions. I can see why choosing the username I did was a mistake. I just use it for everything online and didn't consider how it would appear. And as I mentioned in my last reply, my intent on linking externally in my edit was to avoid cluttering Tatiana Kosheleva's page with information about her brother (since it is only tangentially related). I see now that that is not desired and will simply avoid doing so in the future. TopCargo200 ( talk) 21:17, 18 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Can you do these things without mentioning or linking to your website? 331dot ( talk) 05:35, 19 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Yes. I have no intent or desire to use this as any sort of advertising. We've already been cited as a source on plenty of pages relating to the Russian military for nearly two years, so we wouldn't exactly get much from it at this point. The only reason I linked back to the site was to avoid cluttering an only-tangentially-related page. I will not do so in the future.
It simply bothers me when I look for information that is relatively easily available, but Wikipedia doesn't have it. As long as I am gathering that information for my own reasons, I might as well also add it to Wikipedia, so it is much more freely available to those without the inclination to dig through dozens of pages of Russian military correspondence. • Secretlondon What do you think? 331dot ( talk) 09:11, 13 April 2024 (UTC) reply
I think the website is not a reliable source and they have a strong POV in a contentious area. Secretlondon ( talk) 14:52, 13 April 2024 (UTC) reply
I'm curious why you say it is not a reliable source? Everything there is presented with the primary and secondary sources included. In fact, the reason I had the desire to join Wikipedia in the first place is because I noticed (as discussed above) that the site is actually far more reliable and accurate than Wikipedia. Additionally, it is frequently cited in main stream media articles due to its strict accuracy and transparency policy.
All of that said, I'm not sure what a single person's (uninformed) opinion about the reliability of an unrelated site has to do with anything. As I said several times at this point, this account was never intended to be related to the site. I chose the username because it is what I default to after 2 years of using it everywhere. That has been changed. My goal was to improve the accuracy of articles with painfully glaring errors, like claiming certain generals or officers are dead when they obviously are not, or claiming one unit is subordinate to another that it actually has no relation to at all. The only reason I'm here is because I wanted to make articles more accurate.
I can see why the mod team here has such a horrible reputation. It's been almost a full month and I'm still having to restate the same things I've been saying in every message that no one seems to bother to read. At this point I'd almost rather just let the articles here stay as wrong and outdated as they are. When this is how you treat people who want to help make this place better, I'm amazed anyone sticks around. Yosyp Krivoshey ( talk) 16:04, 13 April 2024 (UTC) reply
