Siege of damascus

It goes like this..... first heraclius sent reinforcement, probably to attack muslims at their rear while they were besieging the city, this reinforcement was checked by Muslim scouts deployed at damascus-emesa road at "Uqab pass" (Saniyyat al uqab) 20 km north of Damascus, a column under Raafai was sent to counter this threat, but Raafai's column proved to be too small and was nearly surrounded, until it was rescued by Khalid's mobile guard which then drove back the byzantine reinforcement north towards emesa. 5000 men were sent with raafai and khalid took a further manpower of 4000 men, thus threatening Muslim's position at damascus in case of a massive sally at any gate. Khalid therefore didnt pursuit the fleeing byzantines at this battle of uqab pass and rather hurried to damascus to press the siege. Hope this will clear the confusion. byzantine sources such as Theophanes the Confessor, mentions this, no muslim sources mentions this story of defection, although they talk about individual defections of some byzantines to muslim side usually by converting to islam. Modern historians agree with this individual defections but usually discard the possibility of whole scale defections of christian arab tribes (as mentioned by Theophanes the Confessor who says 12,000 defected.) They consider is a possible excuse for the defeat.

Your message

hi Wereldburger758, thank you for your message. I personally favour this one [1]. However, there are some changes that need to be done. Could you please take the same orange colours like in the old map? The right side should be a stronger colour, the left hand very light. In that way you can avoid the white border in between those two parts and draw the international border that is dividing them instead. Could you also add the rivers to it, like in this map File:Badakhshan.svg? The colours should be similar to each other, because the right hand side is the original region. The left hand is a later addition. So orange and yellow would be good. Thank you. Gryffindor ( talk) 10:11, 22 November 2013 (UTC) reply

In reference to the second picture, The Battle of Gaugamela, Map of the Battle, Alexander's Decisive Attack

Wereldburger758,

A brief response to your observation on the Gaugamela talk page: In a nut shell, the map can be both correct and incorrect depending on which source you choose to accept. There is some ambiguity in the ancient texts.

The first map show the opening phases, in which Darius ordered his wings to try to outflank the Macedonians, it is fairly representative of all three accounts.

The second map is also fairly representative of Arrian's account, which is considered by most classical historians to be the most accurate.

Arrian states that Mazaeus sent about 1,000 Scythian and 2,000 Indian cavalry into the center gap created between the Macedonian right flank and left flank by Alexander's oblique movement on the left (Arr., 3.14.6-8). Yet Diodorus and Curtius are much more vague and can lead readers to conclude that Mazaeus sent the same force around the flank. Diodorus: "Mazaeus...sent off two thousand Indian [and] one thousand Scythian horsemen with orders to ride round the enemy's flank and continue on to their camp (Diod., 17.59.5)." Curtius' account is similar, stating that Mazaeus sent one thousand cavalry "to ride around and plunder the enemy's baggage (Curt., 4.15.5). However, anyone who has even the slightest amount of military bearing or knowledge would be able to conclude that Arrian's account is the most accurate.

The flanking movement that you mentioned is indicated by Arrian, in the very last sentence of 3.14. Arrian states that the right flank was unaware of Darius flight from the battlefield, and were continuing their attack, and had begun a flank attack on Parmenio's left flank troops. This near encirclement is part of what caused Alexander to break of his pursuit of Alexander (Arr., 3.15.1). In this aspect, the second map is correct, the center gap breech is correctly depicted, and the flank attack, which appears to be and encirclement, is correct.

Accidentally visited the Tajik version of Wikipedia? No, I don't think so. I cannot read Tajik. I don't think my account itself was stolen. But this is so weird. I put a message on the page of the one who posted a welcome on my talk page. A few questions:
  • Isn't it so that you get a welcome message only after your first edit?
  • Who to contact about this issue? I really don't want to be on the Tajik website.
  • Is there some overriding authority that can deal with this?
Thank you for your answer. Wereldburger758 ( talk) 11:00, 22 December 2019 (UTC) reply
Any Wikipedia account on any version of Wikipedia(or its sister projects also run by the Wikimedia Foundation) can be used to access any other language version of Wikipedia(or again, its sister projects). I've seen some other reports about messages on the Tajik Wikipedia or emails from it, evidently the editors there might be using a bot to contact editors reminding them that the Tajik project exists(which probably does not have many editors). I'm guessing that at some point you might have accidentally and even very briefly ended up there for some reason; that's happened to me and I have several welcome messages on versions of Wikipedia in other languages some of which I've never heard of. I don't think there's much you can do about it; you could request that your user page there be deleted(but you would have to be able to do it in Tajik) but since accounts are global across all such projects, you can't prevent this sort of thing from happening. You could go to the Meta-Wiki, the global community site and ask for further assistance; you could also ask at the Help Desk here to see if others know more than I. 331dot ( talk) 11:11, 22 December 2019 (UTC) reply

Identity theft

Someone took my username and my introduction page and used that on the Wikipedia of Tajikistan: https://tg.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9A%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B1%D0%B0%D1%80:Wereldburger758

What can I do? Wereldburger758 ( talk) 10:08, 22 December 2019 (UTC) reply

Did you ever visit the Tajik version of Wikipedia, even accidentally? I don't get the sense that someone took over your account and used it just on the Tajik Wikipedia to transfer your userpage there. I'm wondering if it was somehow transcluded there. 331dot ( talk) 10:48, 22 December 2019 (UTC) reply

Thank you again for your answer. Things are more clear now. I know what to do. -- Wereldburger758 ( talk) 05:52, 23 December 2019 (UTC) reply
