Fair use rationale for Image:Velvett Fogg 1969 001.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Velvett Fogg 1969 001.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the " my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:VELVETT_FOGG(1969).JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:21, 15 August 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 ( talk) 06:21, 15 August 2008 (UTC) reply

Important question

Hello, Velvettfogg ( talk · contribs)...I've noticed some of your contributions and want to get something cleared up. From your detailed additions of biographical information and uploads of pictures such as this one, it appears as though you are Keith Law (singer and songwriter) or at least someone very personally close to Mr. Law. Is this accurate?

Another editor, Keithfairisle ( talk · contribs), also claims to be Keith Law (see here). If you wouldn't mind clearing some of this up... — Scien tizzle 15:26, 4 November 2010 (UTC) reply

Thanks for getting back to me!
If you would bear with me for a little bit, I'd like to cover a few things for everyone's benefit and let you get back to editing...
  • There are several legitimate uses for alternative accounts, but it's always greatly appreciated by the Wikipedia community if they're labeled as such. I'd suggest placing this tag on User:Keithfairisle: {{User Alternate Acc|Velvettfogg|cat=no}} (just copy & paste, without the "nowiki" tags that appear in the editing window). Alternatively, if you're not planning on using that old account any more, you could use {{FormerAccount|Velvettfogg}}. This will help prevent any further confusion.
  • Since you're editing articles about you and your associates, I just want to make you aware of Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines. Check 'em out; it's certainly not prohibited to edit your articles about you, but it is a good idea to know how those edits need to fit within Wikipedia policies on neutral point of view & verifiability of information. Wikipedia:Autobiography also has some potentially useful information.
  • In response to your query, "how can I verify that the information" on Keith Law (singer and songwriter) "is correct?" It's probably a good idea to email Wikipedia to confirm your identity. This could prove very important to you, as a living biographical subject, should there be any content added that you find objectionable and not in-line with Wikipedia policy.
Thanks for your contributions. Please feel free to ask any questions on my talk page. Cheers, — Scien tizzle 16:12, 4 November 2010 (UTC) reply

File:022Keith Law- Frank Wilson.Jan2009 .jpg missing description details

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:022Keith Law- Frank Wilson.Jan2009 .jpg is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors to make better use of the image, and it will be more informative for readers.

If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG ( talk) 18:52, 4 November 2010 (UTC) reply

Thank you for your effort at contributing to the Wikipedia, especially if you are a newcomer. The Wikipedia community owes its newcomers a lot, and continues to value this as per policy and per practice.

That said, the article you created at Keith Law (singer and songwriter) seems to be erroneously placed, as it seems to consist of information you give about yourself. Aimed at being an encyclopedia, Wikipedia's main (article) namespace is not generally the best place for this. In order to preserve the results of your effort for you, and since the article appears to be about you, I have moved it for you to your user space, which is the best location for a user's information about themselves in the first place.

If you really did mean to create an article about yourself, please be aware that this is often considered a bad idea, even if you do meet the guidelines for inclusion of biographies.

I know Wikipedia can be confusing for new editors, so you are welcome to ask for help at the help desk or on my talk page.

As a technical note (and please don't be put off by the grown elaborate nature of some parts of the expression of Wikipedia's rules - as you will soon find out, they're by no means all that technical), as per Wikipedia standards and principles (available from e.g. here), an autobiographic article is usually eligible for deletion without further discussion under criterion A7 in the criteria for speedy deletion as an article about a real person that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject. Colliding with this criterion is considered a common mistake to avoid. Guy ( Help!) 00:09, 12 November 2010 (UTC) reply

Deletions, More deletions, OTRS, and COI on a marginally notable article

I have been in touch with this user via e-mail. The OTRS on all of his uploads is the same regardless of the presumptive copyright holder. In most of these cases, the photos were in his collection and were taken by recording studios or newspapers 40 plus years ago, so Mr. Law/user:Velvettfogg apparently believed (wrongly) that he could do with them as he willed. Most of the photos also had him as one of the subjects. I have nominated for deletion or deleted myself somewhere between 6 and a dozen photos both here and at commons, leaving only a few. I don't have any concerns about the modern photos, likely taken by a friend at the request of Mr. Law for no fee. I believe his possession of the digital images is enough to presume an implied license at the very least and probably all rights, though others may take a harder line. Of the remaining older photos, they didn't have clear statements of where they came from so I didn't believe they qualified for A-9 Speedy Deletion, but I may nominate them for deletion.

In addition, although the group Velvett Fogg may be marginally notable, the article Velvett Fogg is written almost entirely by User:Velvettfogg and he is most definitely Keith Law, a member of the band. This is a clear Conflict of Interest and a closer review of the article, it's references and overall notability, is needed as it may be largely a vanity piece.-- Doug.( talk contribs) 23:01, 4 February 2011 (UTC) reply

Reigate

Your recent edit on Reigate replaced a citation request with your own annotation regarding the electoral roll. That is not a reliable source. You shouldn't remove such valid requests without replacing them with a valid reference. I also think you have a conflict of interest regarding this edit. You need to to read these articles and understand them before returning to this issue. Atlas-maker ( talk) 10:55, 11 April 2014 (UTC) reply

I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the " my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG ( talk) 12:14, 4 November 2010 (UTC) reply

No userspace links in mainspace

Please stop adding links to User:Velvettfogg to the main article space. Further, an individual is considered notable (for inclusion on city/school pages) when they have an article in the mainspace about themselves that meets WP:BIO. tedder ( talk) 07:02, 20 November 2010 (UTC) reply
