Sign of Peace

Thank you. I return the sentiment. Unless troubles occur and/or my input is requested, I'll try to stay clear of your path. Sergecross73 msg me 16:17, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
i don't believe that if our paths crossed, it would be a bad thing anymore. You are a good editor, and if you need help, i'm willing to provide. Lucia Black ( talk) 16:41, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
Sounds good. I linked to your topic ban discussion on your new AN discussion, but only as a reference point. I don't plan on taking a stance or arguing with people about it. Sergecross73 msg me 16:45, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
Don't worry, i saw it and i didn't think anything less than that. it was actually easier to do. i wasn't planning on digging it back up because i never saved the link, but i knew it needed to be there to get some perspective. Lucia Black ( talk) 16:49, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, for the record, I didn't have the link saved or anything either, I just got it off your talk page archive because I knew its required to formally notify people of formal bans, and said notifications would almost always have a direct link to the discussion. I figured that was probably the fastest path to finding the link... Sergecross73 msg me 18:25, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

That is good to know if i would ever need to remember such links. Hopefully not anytime soon. Lucia Black ( talk) 18:27, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Email question

Do you have the ability to email me? I have a question I'd like to ask. It's pretty simple but it's more of a "bounce a thought off you" question of procedure that I'd rather not post, depending on your view. -- ferret ( talk) 18:26, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Sure, any time. I mean, in the most technical sense, I don't see the "Email this user" option on your user page, so I technically couldn't send you an email because I don't see the option or the address, but I do communicate with users through email, I have no problem with that. If my email isn't available from the "Email this user" option that appears when you're on my user page on that left panel, then you can email me at my enwiki name at gmail.com or you can tell me your email address, whatever. Sergecross73 msg me 18:37, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
Ah! I've NEVER noticed that email there. You're right, I have it disabled in my preferences but thought as admin you might still be able to send something. I'll shoot you my question. -- ferret ( talk) 18:41, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
Don't feel bad, that was pretty much my reaction when someone pointed it out to me once, and I went years before noticing it myself... Sergecross73 msg me 18:46, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

System requirements tables

Think it's time to close out this discussion? The consensus is clearly strong against the inclusion of the tables and hahnchen has not provided any compelling reason to include them other than "we're not writing exclusively for idiots." -- ThomasO1989 ( talk) 02:07, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

I completely agree with everything you've said here. However, I think its usually considered bad form to close out a discussion you took a clear stance in, and I left a number of comments on that one. I mean, I might technically be okay, since it was pretty much unanimously against hahnchen, but I'd still prefer someone else close it. (Hahchnen and I tend to clash a lot as it is.) But hey, I've got a lot of talk page stalkers, perhaps one of them would be so kind as to close it up? Sergecross73 msg me 13:43, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
Unfortunately, I was involved in some of the early revert/restoring here (I felt, initially, that Crysis was a clear example of the template documentation's instructions of use).. -- ferret ( talk) 13:50, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

My Xeno offer

Now that I've finished the rewrites on the Tomb Raider series article, I'm feeling a little zoinked. But I haven't forgotten my offer concerning Xenobalde Chronicles. I'll get to it as soon as I'm able (which knowing me will be sooner than I'm currently anticipating). I've already found one fairly extensive interview about Xenoblade Chronicles X, and I'm sure I can easily find some more. In addition, I did some digging around and found some suitable sources for (du-du-duhhh!) the Xenosaga games. Quite a few for Episode I, a respectable amount for Episode II, and a disappointing number for Episode III. I can post them on their talk pages for future examination. Mostly in Japanese, I'm afraid.

I know this is somewhat outside the subject, but I wouldn't mind if you took a look at Tomb Raider in case there are any horrifying issues that need addressing. If you do decide to look, the GameTrailers references are on the fritz because the website is in the middle of a major move and redesign, but it looks like they'll be up again eventually. -- ProtoDrake ( talk) 00:09, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

That all sounds great. I've been in a bit of a rut lately with content creation, but I have been enjoying trimming bits and pieces of terrible prose off of terrible Xenosaga related articles, that are all in terrible shape. Perhaps doing some work on the Xeno articles is just what I need. I've been a huge fan since I got ahold of Xenogears in the early 2000s, and have been waiting for XCX for what seems like forever.
I'll take a look at Tomb Raider tomorrow. I haven't ever played any of them, but they're so popular that I've read about it here and there over the years, and sometimes an outside perspective can be helpful anyways. Also, usually whenever you ask me to read over your work, it's like 99% great already, so it probably won't even be a big deal. Sergecross73 msg me 03:13, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
I've put the sources on their talk pages. I did some scouting round and found a few extra, and managed to find one concerning the DS remake of the first two games, which I have posted on the main series article's talk page. I've also posted the X sources on that article's talk page. -- ProtoDrake ( talk) 10:47, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

I'm doing the Xenoblade rewrite in my sandbox at the moment, and there's a question I must have an answer to: what kind of non-free image licensing must I use for this image, which I will be using in the development section? For the life of me, I can't think. -- ProtoDrake ( talk) 20:37, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

Oh wow, you're doing a whole rewrite of the article? I uh, didn't think it really needed that... Anyways, in regards to images, I'm really not your guy. I've never uploaded/added new images, and really only discuss images in the context of whether or not they're appropriate to the content or of good quality. Otherwise, I'm not well versed in images... Sergecross73 msg me 20:51, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

Wow, that was fast. Thanks! Sergecross73 msg me 20:55, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Good, that's settled. And.... It's not strictly a massive, totally-change it rewrite, now I think of it. I'll probably be just doing some fine-tuning for the Gameplay, try and bring the story section under control (unless you could do that, if you're willing), and the reception section just needs a go-through with url updating/archiving and such. The development section, on the other hand, is something else. Even with the usual don't-include-everything guideline, I've already twice the section's current content. I was also planning in creating a separate "Release" section, where stuff like the localization and a section for Xenoblade 3D could go. -- ProtoDrake ( talk) 15:25, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
Oh wow, nice, the dev section was already longer than most, so it should be pretty packed once you're done with it. Awesome. Sergecross73 msg me 16:01, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Major Update: I (puff, wheeze) have completed (gasp, pant, cough, wheeze) the most major part of (wheeze) the work on Xenoblade Chronicles. I've done some streamlining and editorial work on the Gameplay section, but it remains mostly intact. The development section is expanded and as complete as it can be within reason. I have also done some fine-tuning on the infobox and expanded the lead. Hope it meets with your satisfaction. Expanded "Release" section and editorial work on Reception to follow when (cough, gasp) I've got my breath back. -- ProtoDrake ( talk) 21:23, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

Wow, it looks great! The plot section is still a bit long (which is really neither of our fault) it looks amazing. Well done! Sergecross73 msg me 00:01, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
Finished! I've even managed to put in quotes for the story section. I'm planning to bring this up for GA soon. After that, I'll be taking a break from heavy editing work. It's been far more work than I initially thought it would be. -- ProtoDrake ( talk) 22:27, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
I know what you mean, I've got a bunch of articles I want to improve or create, but I've been having a hard time motivating myself to do it. But yeah, amazing work. Thanks for taking the article to the next level. I'll look through and see if there's any typos or anything too. Sergecross73 msg me 00:29, 19 December 2015 (UTC)

Just to let you know, so you can look it over and judge for yourself, I've been doing some research (that felt like looking for flowers in a desert) and fleshed out the development for Xenogears. The references I've found could be very useful on the Xeno series article (the Creator's Talk one might even be useful for Xenosaga). I know it's not strictly part of my original offer, but I came across some things by accident and I just had to reach their source. A miracle I did. This stuff has become so obscure as the years have gone by. -- ProtoDrake ( talk) 21:15, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

Semiprot request pt. 1

  • Hey Serge, RPP has a huge backlog right now... Could you fulfill this request for me? Almost every game released this week has seen a rash of edit warring over the reception summary, with IPs constantly trying to update "positive reviews" or "favorable reviews" to "critical acclaim" for games that have lower than 90% average on aggregators... I know aggreator text isn't universally favored by all editors, but at least it's sourcable. -- ferret ( talk) 22:05, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
  • Yeah, feel free to report protection needs like you/everyone does with vandalism too. Protected. Sergecross73 msg me 22:14, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
  • Serge, could you semiprot Far Cry? An IP editor who is edit warring whether the latest game is "main series" or "spin off", against consensus and sources, has returned. Same guy that resulted in all our talk pages being briefly protected. -- ferret ( talk) 16:45, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
  • Star Wars Battlefront (2015 video game) this time, same type of issue. IPs edit warring against talk page consensus to list critic reception as "mixed". There's some other edit warring with an autoconfirmed user, but I'm less worried about that... Semiprot should do to help lower the amount of IP warring on Reception. A week would be nice, to give time for the review scores to stop fluctuating as much. -- ferret ( talk) 12:43, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
  • Done. I also left some food for thought on the talk page too. Hopefully that helps. Sergecross73 msg me 13:43, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

  • Can you protect Aliens versus Predator 2. An IP editor keeps adding fansite links and unsourced info. They've been doing it for well over a year looking at the article history. -- The1337gamer ( talk) 20:09, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
  • Protected for a month. Let me know if it continues to happen in the future, as it does seem that the IP has been in it in the long haul. Sergecross73 msg me 20:57, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
  • Protected. If he persists after this next round of expirations, I'm going to start doing some really long protections. I don't usually like to, but its not like these series lists are very active, once a new game is added and release dates are solidified, there really isn't much to be done with them. Sorry, while I occasionally dabble in an article related to tv or books, it's usually just to trim out general bits of original research or trivia. I don't really know much in their way of guidelines or precedents in handling things like I do video games or music. I saw your talk page discussion - in your shoes, I probably would have made the same discussion as you - so I'm pretty much on the same level as you here. (Maybe worse?) I'll also look into it. i definitely seen how active the community is. I'm not that knowledgeable about musicians. A lot of what i was looking into seemed really well sourced already. But i'll look into it just in case. Lucia Black ( talk) 02:12, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

Nickelback being nu metal? How does that makes sense?

Sorry to bothered you Sergecross but Nickelback being nu metal is definitely a joke and it's easily false. I do agree that Nickelback has heavy guitars and were from the early 2000s but what does that has to do with nu metal? Almost nothing. Nu metal was a movement where bands scream, rap, growl and have turntables and also carries hip hop influences. Nickelback doesn't have any screaming, any growl, any rap, and their sound doesn't have any hip hop influences. I know what you are going for when you said that they were from the early 2000s rock but does that means that every single band from the early 2000s was nu metal? No. Also, the sources are not reliable at all. The first source is called Nu Metal: The Next Generation of Rock & Punk Omnibus Press. It doesn't show anything about Nickelback being nu metal so that source is hugely worthless. The second source is http://consequenceofsound.net/2008/11/youtube-live-nickelback-gets-rocked-in-portugal-2007/, it's only mentioning about the hate that Nickelback gets. How can these sources be correct and be submitted without no questions? These are lies that people can hugely believe in. I think people should delete those poor sources. The sources doesn't show me composition about Nickelback actually being nu metal. Also, nu metal was a movement and Nickelback were not part of it. Nickelback never toured in the Family Values tour, never toured in Ozzfest and if they have metal songs, the songs would be either heavy metal or alternative metal and they will have guitar solos but no screaming, no rapping, no turntables and no growling. We can't believe anything what a source says. These are poor sources. I might actually delete those sources because they are not specific. Sorry to bothered you but I just came here to explain some facts.( Mikeis1996 ( talk) 05:41, 25 December 2015 (UTC) )

  • Like I said, I don't personally agree with it either, but we go by what reliable sources say on Wikipedia, and that user found some sources that say it.
  • Did you actually read the Consequence of Sound source? It calls them nu metal. And the current consensus is that they are a reliable source, as per their listing at WP:MUSIC/SOURCES. I admit that some of the sources were of low quality - when that user first added them, he included like 8 refs, and I trimmed out a bunch of them. But there were some that said it.
  • Most of the things you list above...are irrelevant. It doesn't matter who they toured with, or how much they rap. The traits you list are common, but not required for the genre. (Band like Staind, Puddle of Mudd, or Incubus (band) are commonly classified as nu metal, despite have little-to-no rapping or electronics involved.
  • Please don't lose sight of the actual content we're talking about here. We're talking about one tiny fraction of a sentence. Its not even mentioned in the infobox. Its a tiny fraction of the article that merely claims that sources referred to them as nu metal. It doesn't even call them nu metal, it merely says that people have called them nu metal. Right or wrong, the sources show that the claim has been made by source. But again, it's a tiny, tiny part of the article, all the way at the very bottom. • In my experience, if I don't block him, he'll just start back up. He's even returned many times to past IPs after blocks expired even, back on the day when I'd only block him for a week or so. If you're getting tired of this, can you teach me any of the ways that you keep finding him? I could try to do your role more so. Normally, I wouldn't want you to say it publicly, as then the person may change their ways as to not get caught, but quite frankly, this person seems so stupid i don't think that's an issue. I've been dealing with this IP for half a year now, and he still hasn't interacted in a way that would indicate any sort of understanding of anyone, ever. Sergecross73 msg me 20:55, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
I don't mind reverting all this stuff. It's just that I don't have much time on weekdays now. When I rollback him, the articles are added to my watchlist. He's always returning to the same articles. You probably don't want all these articles on your watchlist though as it's annoying having to filter through so much. Fortunately, I just thought of a more efficient way to monitor his edits. Autowikibrowser lets you generate a list of articles from a user's edit history so I added links to every article from the IP addresses I've reported since October here: User:The1337gamer/sandbox/ip_vandal_2. If you view Special:RecentChangesLinked/User:The1337gamer/sandbox/ip_vandal_2, it will show you recent changes on all these articles he's edited over the past month. If you see 2A02:C7D:561D:1D00:XXXX:XXXX:XXXX:XXXX IP address on this list then it's him. He sometimes uses other IP address though. I can keep updating this list regularly with new articles, as it only takes 10 seconds to do. -- The1337gamer ( talk) 21:24, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
I confess I haven't been following this.... Is this the same IP hopping infobox altering guy I took to WP:VG back around early summer? -- ferret ( talk) 21:27, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, that sounds like him. It's this IP that fundamentally does not understand what it means to be a developer or publisher, and keep on making bad changes to articles. He's the type who would put Capcom as a dev for Smash Bros just because MegaMan is in the game, or that Nintendo was a publisher of Disney Infinity just because it came out on Wii U. He rarely responds to any instructions, and when he does, it's usually empty "Serge, you're mean, stop removing my edits" or "Serge, I'm gonna beat you up". @ Dissident93:, two things are missing. First, you should start a discussion on the article talk page and try to form a consensus regarding the caption. Second, no one has bothered to warn him that either long term edit warring or violating 3RR will get him blocked. Link to these concepts for him and you help make the admin's job easier. :)

I picked up on Dissident's removal in an article and then looked at the /64 range contribs <== That is long term abuse. We should look at ranges when finding these IP contribs especially IPv6 addresses. Does everyone here know how to hunt those ranges...and do the admins here know how to block IP ranges? To help curtail the mess, I can show you enough to get by.

      • Berean Hunter - is this range-block just for the person Dissident reported? Or is it for the person 1337Gamer has been reporting to me for a long time, above in this same section? Or both? Sorry, so many IPs being thrown around I'm getting slightly confused. That being said, I do not know how to do range blocks, so any assistance with this is greatly appreciated. Sergecross73 msg me 17:43, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
        • The first range/post above is about Dissident's IP and the second is the one for 1337gamer's IP...so both. :) Concerning IPv6, when you see one that you think is up to no good just consider the first four fields of the address such as 2A02:C7D:561D:1D00 and append the asterisk to the end when searching contribs (notice the range contribs input box here). That searches a /64 address block which is a typical assignment in IP leasing...although that encompasses a very large number of addresses, this will almost always belong to only one individual. Depending on what kind of editor that you may be tracking, your next step might be to broaden your range searches by only searching the first three fields of the address like so. In this case, searching that /48 block reveals that only the /64 block had been used (1D00 in common) and so would be the appropriate range to block. Our blocking interface works correctly with IPv6 ranges when they are entered into this format without the quotes "2A02:C7D:561D:1D00:0:0:0:0/64" <== that expression blocks everything with the first four fields in common...the zeros are simply wild card placeholders and the /64 defines the address block size. You will see other shorthand forms of IPv6 being written (2A02:C7D:561D:1D00::/64 is shorthand for the same) but they don't work when trying to block in the Mediawiki software. Some reading material to help fill in the blanks:
        • I'll continue to work with you so that you get a good handle on it. I'm hoping others also pick up on searching these ranges even if they are not an admin because it will make them more effective. IPv6 looks intimidating but it isn't that bad once you wrap your head around it. You only need to have a partial understanding in order to make range blocks. Jasper Deng may be able to help as well anyone in the Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to make range blocks if I'm not around.

  • Update on Rutgersfan1 ( talk · contribs): he continues to remove the captions from various player articles ( #1 and #2), with his only reason given because "he doesn't like it", and because he " set the page up this way", it should remain. Year in image captions for NFL players have always been accepted and been the consensus for years, and he has violated the three revert rule and the I just don't like it policy, so could you get involved? I did actually leave a comment on his talk page, but he never responded, and it's really getting annoying reverting him over something so trivial. Normally, I'd just let it go because of that, but because of his lack of valid reasons for removing something that has existed without controversy before, it should at least be addressed until he understands. ~ Dissident93 ( talk) 22:56, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

Sure, any time. I mean, in the most technical sense, I don't see the "Email this user" option on your user page, so I technically couldn't send you an email because I don't see the option or the address, but I do communicate with users through email, I have no problem with that.

(Hahchnen and I tend to clash a lot as it is.) My Xeno offer

I have also done some fine-tuning on the infobox and expanded the lead. Hope it meets with your satisfaction. The references I've found could be very useful on the Xeno series article (the Creator's Talk one might even be useful for Xenosaga). I know it's not strictly part of my original offer, but I came across some things by accident and I just had to reach their source. A miracle I did.

Normally, I'd just let it go because of that, but because of his lack of valid reasons for removing something that has existed without controversy before, it should at least be addressed until he understands. ~ Dissident93 ( talk) 22:56, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
  • I cannot block him yet - he technically didn't break 3RR in the instance I checked (he reverted 5 times but it was across a few days, not 24 hrs.) I've given him a final warning. Please start up a discussion on the article talk page, even if it's just a rehash of what you've already said. If he reverts again without discussion or against/without consensus, he will be blocked. Sergecross73 msg me 23:47, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
  • Technically, yes. But still a week long (unneeded) edit war that needed addressing. I'll post something on the talk page though, thanks. ~ Dissident93 ( talk) 05:43, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
  • I completely agree, I'm just explaining why I have to go with "final warning" instead of "short block". Sergecross73 msg me 14:32, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
  • I've protected it for 2 weeks, rather than blocking, as it seems both are mostly just editing that article, and they're apparently not opposed to jumping to other IPs. I'll issue more warnings and/or blocks if they persist elsewhere. Sergecross73 msg me 13:37, 4 December 2015 (UTC)
  • You're not wrong...but I hate to block people who are mostly making their bad edits on talk pages, and haven't made all that many edits. It looks like he "tired himself out" and has already lost interest, so hopefully its done anyways. If he returns and keeps it up, I'll intervene though. • 140.198.160.63 ( talk · contribs) Added a bunch of incorrect jersey numbers to NFL team roster templates today, and checking his history, he may have been doing this for a while now. I compared the numbers he added to the template today, with what the team's official roster page states (this is the primary source for jersey numbers), and he only had one of them right. I don't believe this to be a case of him being mistaken, since some of the numbers aren't even known for the players yet, and he added them anyway. (which turned out to be false a few days later) ~ Dissident93 ( talk) 00:11, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
  • Gave him a final warning, just because it seems like there's been edits from the IP for quite some time, and he never quite got a last warning. If you see any more bad edits, let me know, and the IP will be blocked. Sergecross73 msg me 02:46, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, I reported this to the admin @ JamesBWatson: who had instituted a series of rangeblocks for this LTA Vandal, to see if we can clip this one's wings, too. The original discussion is now in my talk page archive. [4] ScrpIron IV 20:25, 14 December 2015 (UTC)
Cool, so, this one is already taken care of then? Sergecross73 msg me 20:41, 14 December 2015 (UTC)
  • He's reverted like 5 times, and at least once since being warned, so he has blocked. Sergecross73 msg me 04:47, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
  • 189.48.183.32 ( talk · contribs) Appears to be a return of the IP from Zeebo, previously as 189.48.180.64 (Reported above). Same behavior, unsourced additions of non-English regions to various articles. -- ferret ( talk) 19:18, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
Not entirely what to do with these guys. I mean, they're edits could be construed as good faith...though at the same time, no sources are being presented, and virtually any of the edits in the prose are...rather broken english. I can try to explain to him/them, but based on the prose they write, I'm not sure they'd even understand... Sergecross73 msg me 14:35, 23 December 2015 (UTC)
It's also difficult to get the message to them as the IP shifts. -- ferret ( talk) 14:44, 23 December 2015 (UTC)
  • 31.50.163.43 ( talk · contribs) is reverting edits I did for some VG articles regarding the guidelines (no emulated ports in the infobox, no Japanese release for American made games, etc) claiming they are "unexplained", even though I said they were guidelines edits in the summary. Seems like he is going through my edit history and reverting the edits without my knowledge, so I think this should be addressed. ~ Dissident93 ( talk) 23:55, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
    • A quick glance shows widespread disregard of template instructions and VGSCOPE.... I hesitate to start rolling any of it back myself until they're blocked, if they are contrib reverting. -- ferret ( talk) 23:59, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
      • Well, I went at it anyways, and believe I've cleaned it all up. -- ferret ( talk) 00:38, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
        • Thank you both. I gave him a final warning, because it's more of a disruptive editing situation than straight vandalism. Let me know if he does it again - once more, and he's blocked. Sergecross73 msg me 01:13, 19 December 2015 (UTC)

            • Never noticed the 5.8 one, sorry. Its stale now at least. Blocked the second. I don't agree with all the GR, tinkering but being obstinate like that IP is not at all how to handle it. Sergecross73 msg me 01:16, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

  • Does look like Niemti. At least it went stale. You can add it if you want, or just help me remember it if we find ourselves at SPI over Niemti again. Sergecross73 msg me 21:27, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
