February 2014

Hello, I'm Wysprgr2005. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Sporveien, with this edit, without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Wysprgr2005 ( talk) 22:39, 6 February 2014 (UTC) reply

Yip, in a hasty attempt to delete the redirect so that I could move KTP to its correct location, I unfortunately didn't add an edit message. My mistake. Nitrolinken ( talk) 23:12, 6 February 2014 (UTC) reply

Oslo Metro

If you are going to replace {{ Oslo Metro next}} with regular s-rail/s-line succession boxes, have you considered that perhaps {{ Infobox Oslo Metro station}} should also be replaced by the standard {{ Infobox station}}? Sw2nd ( talk) 20:45, 10 February 2014 (UTC) reply

Hi! Thanks for the note regarding the standard {{ Infobox station}}; I've very briefly looked at the differences between the two, and I'm planning on playing around with how a standard infobox could potentially look for the Oslo Metro system. It seems I could knock out two birds with one stone in this case, as {{ S-line}} is the recommended fit when it comes to listing services.
Do you have any particular recommendations otherwise, or some hurdles that I might want to take extra note of before proceeding? Nitrolinken ( talk) 21:14, 10 February 2014 (UTC) reply
I'll work up a template for potential substitution and show it to you tomorrow. Sw2nd ( talk) 21:19, 10 February 2014 (UTC) reply
I appreciate it! Speaking of replacement, by looking at your main account I get this succinct feeling that you might've done some mass replacing yourself; what's a speedy, yet quality assuring approach to this task? Nitrolinken ( talk) 21:25, 10 February 2014 (UTC) reply
See Wikipedia:Substitution. But I can deal with that for you. Sw2nd ( talk) 21:42, 10 February 2014 (UTC) reply
I've briefly taken a look at {{ Infobox station}} on my sandbox, and so far I'm thinking it would be beneficial to still have {{ Infobox Oslo Metro station}}, but as a wrapper around {{ Infobox station}} for the most commonly specified data. That should limit the amount of re-editing and maintenance work in the longer run. Nitrolinken ( talk) 21:53, 10 February 2014 (UTC) reply
  • All usage of {{ Infobox Oslo Metro station}} in articles, has been replaced by the standard Infobox station. This now allows you, if you wish, to replace {{ Oslo Metro next}} with the s-rail/s-line succession templates that you created, under the {{{services}}} parameter in the infobox. You already know that the style and color templates can be amended to reflect different choices. Sw2nd ( talk) 18:12, 28 February 2014 (UTC) reply

OM style

Stations use blue signage with white text. Where is the orange on the Oslo Metro? I have adjusted the style template to illustate how this would work to make the header resemble a sign. Sw2nd ( talk) 21:39, 13 February 2014 (UTC) reply

See Category:Oslo_subway_signs for more examples. Sw2nd ( talk) 21:57, 13 February 2014 (UTC) reply
Several places! I'd recommend changing it back, as it is the official colour of the Metro. Plus, isn't it nice and dashing?
As far as I've managed to find so far, those signs themselves do not represent the official colour of the metro itself - even though they're station signs. On the other hand, it is a more commonly "associated" colour--anecdotally speaking. Nitrolinken ( talk) 22:01, 13 February 2014 (UTC) reply
Addendum: if not the actual official colour representation, the next best would be the current background for station signs.
Nitrolinken ( talk) 22:07, 13 February 2014 (UTC) reply
Bad colour saturation!!! This photo is almost black & white. Sw2nd ( talk) 23:32, 13 February 2014 (UTC) reply
  • The Metro (T-bane) icon is orange in the link you give, but the only version we have in Wikipedia is , which is blue, as displayed at stations. I do not speak your language and I don't completely understand your English. Do you want to change back to the orange colour? I'll make another version, but retain larger name text, and see if is good for you. 23:28, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
    • I'm honestly not quite sure. I would say it depends on what the colouring for the infobox tries to accomplish: familiarity with the system, or local familiarity with the platform? Per the entrance signs, you can see that the orange logo is prominent as you approach the station. However, once you're down at the platform itself you'll find these signs, which are very contrast friendly and uncluttered. Ideally I'm thinking it'd be nice to have the logo as part of the background, but that might get a bit too much. Thoughts? Nitrolinken ( talk) 05:59, 14 February 2014 (UTC) reply
    • Addendum: Though, we could see what other people think - any good place to ask? In the meanwhile however, we could change it back to orange. Nitrolinken ( talk) 15:17, 14 February 2014 (UTC) reply
  • Wikipedia:Be bold! I am busy today but I will work on making a header that looks like the entrance sign. This has been done before with the style template and place an icon at the left. See Union City (BART station) and Battistini (Rome Metro) (and all Italian metros) for examples. Sw2nd ( talk) 16:17, 14 February 2014 (UTC) reply
    • Cool - I'me currently nose-deep in looking at how railway data could be properly represented using Wikidata. I'll be looking forward to the entrance sign. If there's a particular place where you'll be sandboxing/testing it, let me know and I can wizard up with some CSS too. :) Nitrolinken ( talk) 16:26, 14 February 2014 (UTC) reply
