Hi- I noticed you changed the colors for US independent politicians on several election pages. The separate color code exists for a reason: the gold color is more commonly associated with independent politicians in the US than gray, which is more prevalent elsewhere. Additionally, in other US politics templates, gray is used for other purposes, so it is helpful for there to be a visual difference. I kindly ask that you restore the previous color. - Gold color? The current color code for Independent (United States) is #DDDDBB, which is, at best, a yellowish shade of gray. I remember when the template was first created that it was a bright yellow or gold color, but after a lot of discussion it was changed to the current color, which is barely distinguishable from the generic independent color in my opinion. That was the impetus for making those changes. I'm not so sure that I agree that yellow is "commonly" associated with Independents, in addition.
- But tbh this is the first time I've seen someone describe the current color as "gold".

- The terminology of the shade aside, if there was a discussion about the color and a decision was reached, a new discussion and consensus are required to disregard the results of that discussion. Additionally, the way to go about making those changes would be a change to the Independent (US) color code, not wholesale changing of every page that uses it.

WMSR was it? I actually went back through the archives of discussions and referenda for the Wikiproject and I can't find anything suggesting that. i think the topic is ripe for a revisit

- Great, then please start up that discussion, but don't wholesale change several pages based on your aesthetic preferences. That color code still exists for a reason, and should there be consensus for a change, all that would be required is to change the color code, rather than going through every page to change "Independent (US)" to "Independent".

WMSR the color code was created on a whim and it's remained there because of inertia, not any deep consenus from members of the wiki project. I'd happily start/participate in any conversation about how to move forward, but the correct outcome to my mind is not to have a separate template at all, not just change the color code.

- @ WMSR your definition of "original" is skewed by your perspective on the issue. truly returning to the "original" coding would be to have the same color code for all independent politicians worldwide. Nevermore27 ( talk) 15:03, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
