The article The position and status of Serbs in Croatia (Open letter) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Lack of notability, insufficient amount of significant coverage, WP:NOTNEWSPAPER, WP:WHIM

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Debate on use of place names in minority languages

hi MirkoS18 thanks for your request re the debate on Serbian place names in Croatia. It is clearly a hotly debated topic. I find it quite hard to intervene, because my instinct as a minority rights activist (I work here Minority Rights Group International) is to support using the minority place names. (and by the way I am sitting here in East London, just 100 yards from here all the street names are signposted in English and Bengali...) But there is clearly also an issue of wikipedia etiquette and policies, which I am not an expert on at all.

It seems to me to be much less controversial to include the Cyrillic name in the individual articles for each locality. So I am surprised not to see it, for example, in the article on Ervenik, the muncipality with the 2nd hightest proportion of Serbs.

I think by the way, if a threshold is used to determine, in national minority policies, when a minority has reached a "significant" proportion of the population, as per Council of Europe minority rights conventions, it is often 20%. But why 20% - clearly it is arbitrary to a certain extent.

A tag has been placed on Transfiguration Church, Szentendre requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Nomination of B.a.B.e. for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article B.a.B.e. is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/B.a.B.e. until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Best regards, Cindy( talk to me) 14:33, 22 August 2012 (UTC) reply

Gvozd

Looks reasonably safe to me, because: 1) the change is reliably sourced, and 2) the controversy is about whether to change the town's name or not, not whether it has actually been changed officially or not (it has). The article should certainly note the name change and the controversy behind it, but I'd recommend against too much detail, so as to avoid WP:UNDUE issues, as well as attracting POV edits. Re: Help needed 2 (:

The easiest, cleanest way: 1) the owner should upload the photo to Picasa, Flickr, Panoramio or some other site, 2) the owner should then change the licensing options for that photo (these sites default to "All rights reserved", but this can be changed by the uploader). Should be Commons-compatible, i.e. by or by-sa. [1] Ask me if you need further advice (I don't actually use these sites, but I'll try to help). GregorB ( talk) 23:29, 21 November 2012 (UTC) reply

Cyrillic

If I recall correctly, the current consensus is that repeating the same Serbo-Croatian name twice in two alphabets is unnecessary and provocative. I remind you that according to current Wikipedia consensus (and general scholarly consensus), both Serbian and Croatian are variants of a single language. -- Director ( talk) 01:56, 10 March 2013 (UTC) reply

Both scripts are used in SC, that's true - but in this particular instance the official name is only in Latin. Like I said before on this subject.. if the official name of the municipality was "Općina Borovo-Општина Борово" then your format would make sense. Cities like Pula really are officially named "Grad Pula–Città di Pola", but I have yet to see any source that actually states Borovo Municipality is referred to in any context as "Općina Borovo-Општина Борово". All there is is your (rather doubtful) WP:ORIGINAL RESEARCH, and your own conclusion that that's the way "it should be written".
In short, please distinguish between 1. a municipality recognizing Serbian as a minority language used therein, and 2. a municipality officially using said language as (part of) its name in some form.
Unless you find a real source for your claims, your edits just look like provocation and nationalist POV-pushing, and as such will be reverted. Please be aware of 3RR and WP:EW and avoid edit-warring. -- Director ( talk) 02:35, 10 March 2013 (UTC) reply
Your reply is not a reply with regard to my above post. I could not care less what other articles are using. In actual fact, I'm the guy who first proposed the format you are pushing. Its first application was with bilingual towns in Istria, regardless of where its been erroneously copied to.
Let me assure you, in addition, that I have seen no sources indicating that any one of these municipalities uses a "[Latin]-[Cyrillic]" format. Can you provide a quick link here, with page number if its a document (as required in WP:V)? -- Director ( talk) 02:53, 10 March 2013 (UTC) reply
No, look, this is the sort of thing you need. An official document. -- Director ( talk) 02:52, 10 March 2013 (UTC) reply
Statutes? Ok, if the statutes of those municipalities actually use the "[Latin]-[Cyrillic]" format, then reference them properly in the article (with a page number) and as far as I'm concerned your format is warranted. But please make 100% sure they do actually use that format.. -- Director ( talk) 03:01, 10 March 2013 (UTC) reply
I will definitely try to find an official document that use this version. Such documents are available for all municipalities in Podunavlje (Serbian and Hungarian) but I'm not 100% sure it will be possible for all other municipalities in Croatia. The problem is that very few of these documents are available online so I have to use one that I use in articles. But I'll think of something. I'm glad that I finally explained that it is copy of Istria case. In general, I even personally agree with you about Serbo-Croatian, but practice is very different (I rarely even use Cyrillic alphabet-I just think that in this case it may have "cathartic" and positive effect regardless of all conflicts).-- MirkoS18 ( talk) 03:13, 10 March 2013 (UTC) reply
Like I said, provide incontrovertible evidence of the official name being in the "[Latin]-[Cyrillic]" format, and I myself am fine with the change. Otherwise, please give it a rest. -- Director ( talk) 03:19, 10 March 2013 (UTC) reply
Simply put: yes. That's OR. Statutes would do it. -- Director ( talk) 03:24, 10 March 2013 (UTC) reply

Hi MirkoS18. You added large sections of tect to the history section of Serbs in South Africa. besides the fact that this looks copied from elsewhere, it needs a lot of work to bring in line with wiki style. Please address this. Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia ( talk) 15:51, 4 October 2015 (UTC) reply

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Invitation from Wikipedia Asian Month 2016

Thanks for partipating Wikipedia Asian Month last year, and I hope you enjoy it. Last year, more than 7,000 articles contribute to Wikipedia in 43 languages in Wikipedia Asian Month, making us one of the largest event on Wikipedia. We will organize this event again in upcoming November, and would like to invite you join us again.

This year, we are lowering down the standards that you only need to create 4 (Four) articles to receive a postcard (new design), and articles only need to be more than 3,000 bytes and 300 words. We are also improving our postcard sending process, e.g. making the postcards right now, and collecting the address after the event ends without waiting other languges.

Wikipedians who create the most articles on each Wikipedia will be honored as "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors". We will send you both digital copy, and a paper copy of the Ambassador certificate.

Thank you for considering! -- AddisWang ( talk)

  1. Please submit your articles via this tool. Click 'log in' at the top-right and OAuth will take care the rest. You can also change the interface language at the top-right.
  2. Once you submit an article, the tool will add a template to the article and mark it as needing review by an organizer. You can check your progress using the tool, which includes how many accepted articles you have.
  3. Participants who achieve 4 accepted articles will receive a Wikipedia Asian Month postcard. You will receive another special postcard if you achieve 15 accepted articles. The Wikipedian with the highest number of accepted articles on the English Wikipedia will be honored as a "Wikipedia Asian Ambassador", and will receive a signed certificate and additional postcard.
  4. If you have any problems accessing or using the tool, you can submit your articles at this page next to your username.
  5. If you have any question, you can take a look at our Q&A or post on the WAM talk page.

Peto izvješće

Hello Mirko!

As you may have noticed, the URL to Peto izvješće ( https://vlada.gov.hr/UserDocsImages//Sjednice/Arhiva//125.%20-%2023.pdf), appearing in quite a few articles, is now dead. Fortunately, the same document can be found on the Council of Europe's website, so e.g. this fixes it. Copying {{ cite web}} invocation from there is probably the easiest way, only the page number will change from article to article.

The list of pages to fix is here (130 at this moment). I'm going to begin fixing them, and if you could help me with it I'd appreciate it (no hurry, of course)... GregorB ( talk) 21:09, 29 November 2016 (UTC) reply

A tag has been placed on Category:Vukovar-Syrmia County requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. An article you recently created, List of split up universities, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. ( ?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed ( verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Hrvoje Klasić article

Hello Mirko. I noticed you undid my edit of the Hrvoje Klasić wiki article in english. Within my edit, I removed adjectives meant to subjectivelly glorify a person. Also I've removed statements Hrvoje Klasić never said yet for some reason were quoted as his statements. Lastly, Klasić's personal opinion on certain topics were, within the article, depicted as fact rather than what they actually are, his opinion. Using terms as "underlined", which are meant for statements with factual basis, instead of terms as "claimed", which are meant for ones opinion, was also a problem within the article as they give a wrong impression of what's factually correct and what's merely ones opinion.

Your reasoning for undoing my entire edit was because I, in your opinion, linked an "unreliable source" although first and foremost the article in question is a purely informative article simply reporting on the Austrian governments decision to ban the Croatian Defence Force's symbol. There is nothing biased, subjective nor unreliable in the article itself as it was a purely informative news article of something the Austrian government did, if you had read it you would've known it but instead bias prevailed. Secondly, the sentence related to that article was a mere 10 word sentence. You had no right to undo an entire 400 word edit due to that. Please, in future use the "Edit source" option instead of reverting everything. Whatever your personal beliefs are they should be put aside in order to have a informative and objective Wikipedia page. PlavaOmega ( talk) 14:30, 10 March 2022 (UTC) reply

WikiProject Villages tagging

Please, stop tagging talk pages of numerous Serbian and Croatian villages with {{ WikiProject Villages}}. That project is totally defunct, there's no evidence they have ever done anything, so tagging talk pages only floods watchlists (and I have hundreds of those on mine) and clutters talk pages. I've just marked their page as defunct and I'm considering MfD-ing it. No such user ( talk) 10:42, 17 November 2022 (UTC) reply

No such user. First of all, thank you for your feedback but I really don't think that I have done any mistake by tagging talk pages of villages with corresponding {{ WikiProject Villages}} which explicitly state that they would like to Add {{ WikiProject Villages}} to every talk page about some village. You may have marked it now in a certain way (but not at the time of my contribution), but it may actually be more inappropriate (particularly your reverts on my edits) since it would be quite reasonable to assume that I may have some interest in the project. I mean, my hundreds of edits actually contribute to the activity of that project. Wouldn't you agree? Now, I gain nothing by arguing and I see what may complicate editing for you (note taken) but I just think that you should be much more careful with your requests to other editors, and if there is too much information on your watchlist maybe reconsider your priorities. Cheers!-- MirkoS18 ( talk) 19:54, 17 November 2022 (UTC) reply

Hmm, I'm not sure about the future of commons:File:Borovo logo.svg which @ EmiliaITČA replaced the above with, I don't think the "does not meet the threshold of originality" licensing really fits this newly uploaded logo on Commons, because they are not exactly basic shapes and unoriginal fonts. - Vipz ( talk) 06:34, 26 November 2022 (UTC) reply
Vipz I am quite sure that it does meet the threshold of originality and I don't understand why it was moved to Commons. I haven't noticed it until now so thank you for letting me know. The old, more basic form of logo itself contains original and recognizable font (and in general I think that it is more easily associated with the company to the extent that I was unaware of the new one). Is there a way to "un-import" it back from Commons as a non-free file or once it's deleted the new one should be added here once again?-- MirkoS18 ( talk) 08:56, 26 November 2022 (UTC) reply
I just updated the old file which is still on Wikipedia with the new logo so that it won't affect the article once the non-free file is deleted.-- MirkoS18 ( talk) 09:05, 26 November 2022 (UTC) reply

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

Where in this source says that the village should be written in Cyrillic [2]-- Sokac121 ( talk) 20:40, 8 March 2013 (UTC) reply

My understanding is that what was said in the WP Croatia talk is more or less the position of the project. While it is not binding on anyone, it carries certain weight.

This is my response. Joy has been notified too. [3] Please keep an eye on the articles - I've just made a ton of reverts, but it is impractical to revert all, so some intervention may still be needed. GregorB ( talk) 17:44, 1 June 2015 (UTC) reply

You have probably noticed that some of my reverts have been reverted back by FDrago77. I'd ignore it and put all co-official names right back. If you happen to notice more undiscussed reverts by any of these two, please let me know - in 10 years I've never raised a complaint against anyone, but I'd be more than happy to make this my first. Also don't worry - I know this is upsetting and time-wasting to say the least, but if being nice and patient didn't work, there definitely is an approach that will.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion".
