Welcome

I'm going to start with some simple edits to show I'm a responsible editor here at Wikipedia and then apply for WP:Event coordinator status for the Wikipedia editing event I'm planning in January here at the library. ColfaxLibrary ( talk) 20:12, 7 October 2023 (UTC) reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "ColfaxLibrary", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it seems to be the name of an organization. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. 331dot ( talk) 15:46, 10 October 2023 (UTC) reply

@ 331dot Thank you for the information. Do you recommend that I use my legal name instead? ColfaxLibrary ( talk) 15:56, 10 October 2023 (UTC) reply
You don't need to use your legal or real name if you don't want to, but you may if you wish(consider it carefully). Your username only needs to be specific to you. A name formatted like "JohnDoe of DPL" or similar would be fine. 331dot ( talk) 15:58, 10 October 2023 (UTC) reply
@ 331dot Since I will be using my account publicly at Wikipedia Editing Events I think I will use at least my legal first name because everyone there will be able to see it on my badge. Would "MatthewOfColfaxLibrary" fix the problem? If so I'm going to make a new account since this one has just six edits and it seems like it would be simpler to make a new account. Thank you for your help and kindness.

Edit: I changed my mind. I requested a User Name change using the form. I think I should use that process since then I will be able to explain how well it works to people who attend my Wikipedia Editing Event in January and it will preserve a record of the mistakes I made instead of burying them in an unused account. Thanks very much for all your help. ColfaxLibrary ( talk) 17:38, 10 October 2023 (UTC) reply

Event coordinator granted

After reviewing your request for the "eventcoordinator" permission, I have enabled the flag on your account for 45 days, expiring on January 20, 2024, UTC. Keep in mind these things:

  • The event coordinator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
  • The event coordinator right allows you to temporarily add the " confirmed" permission to newly created accounts. You should not grant this for more than 10 days.
  • The event coordinator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the event coordinator right will result in its removal by an administrator.
  • Please note, if you were previously a member of the "account creator" group, your flag may have been converted to this new group.

If you no longer require the right, let me know, or ask any other administrator. Drop a note on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of the event coordinator right. Happy editing! Chetsford ( talk) 23:51, 6 December 2023 (UTC) reply
