Hello.

I see that you removed my edits to the Otherwise (band) page earlier today for a missing citation purposes. I do not know how to obtain citations for the information I added, considering it was an incomplete history of the band. I could pull links to proof of their tours and album releases, but I do not know how they would vindicate my edits. What do you want me to do to restore them?

-- Bmax999 ( talk) 05:47, 2 June 2019 (UTC) reply

@ Bmax999: Thank you for writing. Because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, the information contained within it needs to be verifiable, and not just personal experience or original research. It can be frustrating to know something is true, but not be able to add it to an article because no reliable source can be found to support the edit. Please try a deep search on Google for the information you are seeking. You may be surprised what you find. There are also many helpful links on your talk page, including Help:Referencing for beginners, which may be very useful. Feel free to write if you need help. It's sad that John Pittman Sr was so badly injured from the grenade blast, he could not father a child and does not have a biological heir to carry on for him. These changes are legit and I will get references as I figure out the complex Wikipedia formatting.

@ Bronxboy100: A pleasure to meet you, and thanks for writing. While writing about yourself on your own Wikipedia biography is generally discouraged, there is no policy banning it. Please just take a moment to read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, and disclose your connection to the article. My only concern with your edits to Kurtis Blow was that you were adding unsourced information. This is not to imply that the information you added was not correct; just that Wikipedia requires reliable sources to support its content. I left a message on your talk page already with a link to Help:Referencing for beginners. Cheers! Magnolia677 ( talk) 09:53, 4 June 2019 (UTC) reply

Connecticut Election Results Tables

Forgive me, as I am still a newbie to how Wikipedia works. This is actually the first message that I have sent to anyone on here. I'm not sure I fully understand your criticism of why the election results tables I added to various towns throughout Connecticut were removed. Instead of removing them completely, could you (or I) not have just moved them elsewhere on the page? I'm a self-professed political junkie and data dork and while I enjoy gathering and researching election results, it is rather time consuming and takes a lot of work that I am happy to share for free with the public via Wikipedia because knowledge is power, but if I am doing something wrong, please enlighten me so that I can try to avoid this problem in the future. Thanks!

@ WikiGeek0485: Thank you for responding. How are you a newbie; you've made 1,136 edits over seven years? I contacted you here four months ago but you chose not to respond. I've outlined my most recent concern at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Help with tables. You are welcome to join the discussion there. Thank you. Mayor of Baguio

Hi! I would like to ask why the vice mayors of Baguio were removed? I think the column for the VMs are there for a reason and should accordingly be filled up. Also why the removal of the seal? Please refer to the wiki page of the city mayor of Davao. It bears the seal. I painstakingly researched on those items. Please clarify. Thanks! Ejeigh123 ( talk) 00:11, 22 June 2019 (UTC) reply

@ Ejeigh123: Thank you for writing. You made 23 edits in a row, and much of what you added was unsourced or did not follow the Manual of Style. Curt Gowdy and Laramie, WY

Hello -- I will defer to you, but the section into which I added Curt Gowdy is headed "Other notables with Laramie connections are:" and having grown up there I can assure you that Curt's connections to the city are much deeper than just his attendance at UW. As I noted in the entry, he owned multiple radio stations (KOWB and KCGY), and was in town a lot to broadcast UW games here and there. Curt Gowdy State Park just outside Laramie is named for him. His brother lived one block from my family (I delivered newspapers to him, and Curt visited there often). Anyway, I won't revert your undo, but thought I would let you know that I definitely believe that Curt Gowdy qualifies as an"Other notables with Laramie connections". Up to you.

@ Manushand: Thanks for writing. I typically follow Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline#Notable people which suggests living somplace for "a significant amount of time". I looked at Gowdy's Wikipedia article and it indicates he only lived in Laramie to attend school. Are you able to find a source showing he lived there longer? Thank you. Magnolia677 ( talk) 08:32, 24 June 2019 (UTC) reply

Nope, he didn't live there, but he definitely had "Laramie connections". Maybe the title of that list should be changed if it is only meant to include persons who lived in the city when they were into their professional careers?

Your reverts of other users on Oasis (J Balvin and Bad Bunny album)

In future, instead of reverting every user you think is adding "unsourced content" to an article, like on Oasis (J Balvin and Bad Bunny album), perhaps stop and consider that credits are available on the website that at least one of those users was linking to: https://listen.tidal.com/browse/album/112101597. You need to click the three dots and select "Credits". A box then pops up on the screen that shows you the credits for each track. JavaScript functions can't be linked to directly, so there is no way to link to the pop-up box directly. If you have any issues with the credits being "unsourced" now, you can take it to the talk page because they are supported by a source. No need for a ping so you can send me a snippy reply as in the past, I've no interest. Thanks. Ss 112 02:28, 30 June 2019 (UTC) reply

Perhaps because WP:V is a policy and this is an encyclopedia not a fansite? Just a wild-ass guess. John from Idegon ( talk) 03:09, 30 June 2019 (UTC) reply
@ John from Idegon: What are you on about? Did you read what I just said? I'm not referring to anything outside of this article, where an editor already sourced the credits to the website I just linked ( diff), and was reverted by Magnolia. I think you thought you knew what I was saying, but I don't think you did. I don't know about any of the other editors on the article, but I don't need to be pointed to WP:V—I already source everything I add, but you know, thanks all the same! Ss 112 05:01, 30 June 2019 (UTC) reply
@ Ss112 and John from Idegon: Previous editors had been adding this link to Tidal (https://tidal.com/album/112101597), which did not show credits, and did not support the edit. When you reverted my edit (and blasted me), you added this link to Tidal (https://listen.tidal.com/browse/album/112101597), which as you can see is a different URL (and does support the edit). I hope this clears up any misunderstanding. Thank you. Magnolia677 ( talk) 13:21, 30 June 2019 (UTC) reply
and NEITHER of those would be a reliable source. Again, this is an encyclopedia and your contributions must comply with all of our policies. Make sure your sourced comply with WP:RS. If you ou can't be bothered to do so, there are numerous places you can obtain a website for little to no cost, and there, you won't have to follow our bothersome rules. John from Idegon ( talk) 14:23, 30 June 2019 (UTC) reply
@ John from Idegon: You can't seem to make up your mind about what you're on about. First it was WP:V, now you think I/whoever the 'you' you are speaking to is not aware of WP:RS. What a bunch of condescending crap. Read the subsection "Vendor and e-commerce souces": "inline citations may be allowed to e-commerce pages such as that of a book on a bookseller's page or an album on its streaming-music page, in order to verify such things as titles and running times." "Such things" is clearly non-exhaustive, and linking to sites like Tidal is a very common thing on music articles (even on featured articles—wow! Featured articles that apparently don't comply with RS, this encyclopedia has gone to the dogs!). I don't know who you think here isn't complying with "our bothersome rules", but it's certainly not me. Nobody complained about Wikipedia's rules or weren't following them. You're just imagining somebody at this point. It's straw man bullshit. Perhaps know a situation better before jumping in, yeah? Ss 112 20:16, 30 June 2019 (UTC) reply

Hosford

/info/en/?search=Draft:Larry_Hosford I wrote this, it will be my first article, what do you think? Toandael49 ( talk) 14:49, 6 July 2019 (UTC) reply

@ Toandanel49: Thanks for writing. The article is a good start, but needs some cosmetic work. Not many of your sources work either, and most don't have links. My bigger concern was whether Hosford would pass WP:BASIC, WP:ANYBIO, and WP:MUSICBIO. Except for obituaries--which aren't the best way to establish notability--there isn't a lot of biographical information in reliable secondary sources. You included this source, which had some detail. I also found this book, which had a bit of detail. If you are able to find more sources with significan biographical detail it would certainly help establish notability. Hosford is also linked to in the following articles: The E-Types, Frank Reckard, Moby Grape, List of songs about Chicago, Chris Darrow, George Harrison discography, and I'll Still Love You. Then I unearthed something with often pushes a music biography over the notability bar; Hosford had a song chart on Billboard's Hot Country Songs, see here. If you can polish up the article and references I'm pretty sure the article will be a keeper. If you need help let me know. Cheers. Magnolia677 ( talk) 21:22, 6 July 2019 (UTC) reply

Removal of edits to the PATH

Hello,

I see that you removed all of my edits to the PATH (Toronto) page. In your message you mentioned all changes should be cited. Almost of my changes were cited. The ones that weren't (for example that the PATH connects to shops and tourist destinations) are statements of fact that are also mentioned later in the existing post and are unlikely to be mentioned in academic articles. Further, you reinstated out-of-date links with incorrect information and deleted updated information about the new PATH signage system that included links to the City of Toronto website which verified that information.

Can you please be more specific about what I need to change about my edits?

Shaolinreginald, we don't have pages here; we have articles. Articles are constructed by paraphrasing reliable published sources. Hello, As per your directions I added the relevant citation source. Sorry for the oversight. Infobox waterfall question

Hi Magnolia677: I have a question that you might be able to answer. The wiki template Template:Infobox_waterfall contradicts the wiki entry Body_of_water on the Body_of_water page under Types the very first note says "Note that there are some geographical features involving water that are not bodies of water, for example waterfalls, geysers and rapids." The contradictory entry on the Template:Infobox_waterfall can be found under coordinates where it says the recommended value for type should be waterbody! I believe that a better value would be "landmark" I cannot find a talk page for the infobox template so don't know how/where to point out this discrepancy. Thanks! Danhinz ( talk) 21:32, 11 August 2019 (UTC) reply

( talk page watcher) Danhinz, the appropriate talk page would be Template talk:Infobox waterfall. John from Idegon ( talk) 22:10, 11 August 2019 (UTC) reply
( talk page stalker) @ Danhinz: The type in {{ coord}} is documented here. It turns out the only difference (to Wikipedia) is the scale of the maps being shown. Thus, there's no difference between type:mountain and type:waterbody. type:waterbody is 1:100,000 scale, in contrast to type:landmark, which is 1:10,000 scale. Downstream users (like Google?) might be doing something with these that we don't understand, so it might be a good idea to stick with appropriate types. — hike395 ( talk) 22:19, 11 August 2019 (UTC) reply

Citation Needed - List of place names of Native American origin in the United States / Mississippi

Hi, You removed several locations recently added to the List of place names of Native American origin in the United States, keeping the ones which I had included citations from Baca, Keith (2007). Native American Place Names in Mississippi. Jackson, Mississippi: University Press of Mississippi.. Except for the unincorporated communities Eutaw, Waxhaw, and Peoria, each item removed has an entry in that same source as the items you did not remove. However, I did not cite that reference for each single line added to avoid the clutter of 100+ separate citations of the same source and to not break from style the other lists in the article which do not re-cite the same source for every single item; I limited the citations to those which had questionable etymologies according to the author or those whose etymologies I included from the book. However, when I revert your changes I will cite Keith Baca's book Native American Place Names in Mississippi with page number after each and every item to satisfy the citation standards.

On the unincorporated communities of Eutaw, Waxhaw, and Peoria, Mississippi, which were overlooked in the aforementioned book and were added by me, what is the appropriate way to handle those without falling afoul of the WP:OR standards? They're tiny, and unlikely to have been written about academically, though at the same time they're obvious references to Eutaw Springs, South Carolina, Waxhaw, North Carolina, and Peoria, Illinois which are documented to have Native American etymologies--Eutaw is the only one of any ambiguity there. Is the goal of the article to be as comprehensive as possible?

Another specific example I want your advice on--you actually left this one, but I wasn't 100% sure how to handle it while writing. On the Hatchie River, I noted that the word has cognates in most Muscogean languages including Creek (the Creeks had nothing to do with Mississippi except for being neighbors and interacting with the inhabitants, but I figure most people who wind up on that page would be interested), then included a blurb from Keith Baca about how that cognate is not in modern Chickasaw though it doesn't mean there never was one (relevant because the Hatchie River is far from historic Choctaw homelands and solidly within historic Chickasaw homelands). Only the latter bit was referenced by Keith Baca; that there is also a cognate of that word in Creek was added by me. To show that the word anglicized as hatchie means the same thing in Creek and Choctaw, do I throw in a reference to a wordlist posted by the Creek Nation or something? Where's the line between fairly basic knowledge and WP:OR here (since you don't want nonacademics just cracking open dictionaries and kludging words together to come up with new folk etymologies)?

Thanks

Removal of HuntingtonBeach.Today and SantaBarbara.Today

Hi, Magnolia677

Your assertion that HuntingtonBeach.Today and SantaBarbara.Today are "clickbait sites" is erroneous. These sites present a "journal" of news articles about these cities and citizens that are compiled from legitimate news publications worldwide. There is a single block of advertising on each of these sites which are a fraction of the advertising found on any other news site, such as the LA Times. The advertising on these sites are a small percentage of the sites overall content. We are NOT "clickbait." That you do not agree with our editorial direction does not change the fact that we exist and we provide news that the cities and citizens would not see otherwise and we are a part of the news media for the cities we serve and have been for over 20 years. Ontario Northland

This page needs some serious work, Maury Markowitz made some serious damage to the article 15 November 17, when he added the section on the James Bay Railway. He also put in information on the 1884 charter of the Nipissing And James Bay Railway, but only under the 1895 charter of the James Bay Railway. The original route of this railway was from Callander to James Bay. The proprietors of the Canadian Northern: Mackenzie And Mann had obtained an 1895 charter for their James Bay Railway, but it did not go from Parry Sound to North Bay, as Markowitz suggests. There was some discussion in House of Commons debates that suggests Mackenzie And Mann manipulated the owners of the Nipissing And James Bay Railway in 1897 to have that railway extend to Parry Sound, but that was not in the original 1884 Lake Nipissing And James Bay Railway charter and not at all in the 1895 James Bay Railway charter. I don't know how to add references, but apparently neither does Maury Markowitz. I am not here to get stars beside my name, but I am sick and tired of people telling me false information about the Ontario Northland Railway, just because wikipedia says it's so. Other reverts have made wikipedia into FAKE NEWS, I thought wikipedia readers deserved to know the truth. Here is some information on the 1884 Lake Nipissing And James Bay Railway: A description of the country traversed by this railway between Lake Nipissing & James' Bay. https://archive.org/details/descriptionofcou00nipi/page/n2 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wrecksdale Wreck ( talkcontribs) 02:08, 26 September 2019 (UTC) reply

Thanks!

Thanks

What about your disruptive edit of Bastrop? Why didn't you just fix the typo? That would be the courteous thing to do. 75.111.203.5 ( talk) 20:12, 3 September 2019 (UTC) reply

Thank You

Hi Magnolia677, Thank you for welcoming me to Wikipedia. I just want to let you know that I am doing a project in another Wiki right now which is linking to this Wiki. So when I find small issues like I did yesterday I try to fix them so that I can make sure my other project is also correct. I am currently doing the populated places in Mississippi so you may see other edits from me. I verify these before I do them but I have no problem with someone checking them for me. One thing I have not fixed is this, there are some county pages that are missing the State info box at the bottom of the page. Maybe this could be brought up in a project meeting or something. Anyway, thanks again. LonnyY8S ( talk) 16:25, 18 September 2019 (UTC) reply

Grand Hotel (Mackinac Island)

Thank you for rewording my edit. Your edit sounds a whole lot better then my one sentence edit that was cut off from the rest of the paragraph (a dangling sentence). 2605:A000:121E:C85A:A5BF:C5C8:45A8:79CC ( talk) 17:19, 18 September 2019 (UTC) reply

That we present a compilation of news articles is irrelevant. We provide a service to these communities and we provide news. These Wikipedia entries are legitimate and should be left as entered.

@ Wrecksdale Wreck: I have no doubt your edits are correct. You just need to source them properly. Adding your source in the edit summary makes Wikipedia a sloppy place. Also, if your source is a parliamentary debate, then you need to find a better source. Cheers. Magnolia677 ( talk) 17:20, 26 September 2019 (UTC) reply

ARIZONA CITY EDITS

Hello, would you please stop reverting my edits on Arizona places. I have made extensive additions and clarifications over the years for Alabama, Alaska and American Samoa, working state by state. You are wasting my valuable time by having to restore these edits that have been thoroughly researched and documented directly off the prior census rolls. @ DJ Jones74: Please stop adding unsourced content. You've had multiple warnings. Magnolia677 ( talk) 22:33, 30 September 2019 (UTC) reply

Excuse me, sir, these are NOT unsourced. I do not place unconfirmed info on these city places. These are confirmed by census data and other various resources. Stop wasting my time with this nonsense, I've spent years working on this research. DJ Jones74 ( talk) 22:36, 30 September 2019 (UTC) reply
