Zebra

Thanks for reverting the eronneous edit re the zebra striping. Unfortunately in your 'Edit Summary' you accidently repeated the error 'they are white with black' rather than saying 'black with white'.

I intend to add a whole section on the striping when I get around to it (I suspect 'zebra' is the type of article that would attract a lot of people like young kids that just think things like that one way or the other, and would just change to what they think rather bother to check the references; hopefully if I put a whole section on it it will be less likely to be randomly changed). -- jjron 11:55, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

How exactly did I vandalize the Elvis page???

Please explain it to me. Eveybody knows about the untrue rumors that have been spread about Elvis and his mother. In fact, the other day I had a conversation with someone who said "didn't Elvis have sex with his mother?" I stated it in a totally NPOV manner. All I aid that was that some have ALLEGED but that the rumors have no basis in fact. If there's an enitre section dedicated to allegind that Elvis was a racist with absolutely no factual backing then how is my entry out-of-line? -- 24.35.15.107 23:26, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry but that's not a good argument, Baseball. I specifically said that the allegations are false. The reason why I added them was that it is rumored by more people than you'd think that they are true. Again, why is my entry deleted yet there is still all sorts of unproven allegations that remain on Elvis' article (i.e. Racism, him still being alive)???? There is absolutely no proof that Elvis is still alive yet because a fringe minority still believe that he is that warrants an entry???? -- 24.35.15.107 23:38, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Derrick Alexander Disambiguation

I believe there were 2 players named "Derrick Alexander" that played in the NFL, yet one only has an entry on Wikipedia. How do I go making a disambig page for both of them?

ColdRedRain 01:06, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm copying my response to CRR here, in case others need the information.
This isn't too hard to do. Both spell their name the same way, but at least one is a wideout and one's a DE. If you know Derrick Defense's middle name, that's the easiest way to differ, but if not you can do it like this.
Wikipedia has an entry for Derrick Offense, and we're going to keep it the main 'Derrick' because he's older and entered the NFL first, and because he's got links to his entry already. Changing his name by moving his page is a nightmare, so we're gonna add Derrick Defense.
* Start your new page with a title like "Derrick Alexander (defensive end)," or some other difference - you can say "(Florida State)" or "(Cleveland Browns)" or whatever you like. Be sure it's capitalized correctly and with correct punctuation for whatever you decide, because you only have one shot. We don't want to have to move the page for a typo.
* The first line of your article, add a sentence saying (in italics) "This article is about Derrick Alexander the defensive end from Florida State. For the wide receiver from Michigan, see Derrick Alexander." (I hope that's right - I think he was from Michigan.) When you're finished writing your article, do the same thing at the Derrick Offense page - "this is the entry for Derrick Offense, for the lineman from FSU see Derrick Alexander (defensive end). Wikilink their names.
* Then write your article and save. Put the categories in it, for Browns and defensive ends and Florida State and all those things. Use another entry as reference for structure and content. If you don't have time to do it all in one sitting, a stub is better than nothing. You can come back to it another time, and someone else may very well have pitched in to help.
* Now, make some redirects for search terms like 'Derrick Alexander Browns' and 'Derrick Alexander defense', search terms that someone might use to look for Derrick Defense (see WP:REDIRECT for help - it's easy). You want it to be easy to find for people who are trying to find it, so if they put in 'derrick alexander end' and hit 'Go' it comes to you. As an example, I was trying to find an image of Elton John tonight, and there are at least 15 different terms that will take me to the Elton John entry - Sir Elton, Sir Elton John, John Elton, Elton H. John, Elton john album - see what I mean? Be creative. Then do the same thing for Derrick Offense - use his full name including middle name, "derrick alexander wr', 'derrick alexander chiefs', 'derrick alexander KC', and on and on.
That's how it's done.

It is also not a suck up school not eveybody goes to expensive prep schools, which should not be the impression given out, it should show that eveyone is welcome not only rich and smart children. I am offended that my additon was deleted.

Miko

I don't understand how I "vandalized" the miko page. The only thing I did was remove a few paragraphs, and that was because the paragraphs had already been stated. It looked like this example:

Kikyou is a character in the series Inuyasha. She is a miko. Kikyou is a character in the series Inuyasha. She is a miko.

All I did was remove the second part because it's ridiculous to have the exact same thing repeated twice. How is that vandalism?

You listed it as CSD A7, nn, which is not a clear case. Better to list as A8 copy vio (you stated this in your edit summary). Thanks. Keep up the good work. Tyrenius 20:02, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

I corrected a typo on the Model-View-Controller page and you reverted it and then left me a message admonishing me from "removing content." Way to keep mistakes in Wikipedia. Good job. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.80.54.151 ( talkcontribs)

Hello - thanks for the message. As my reply, take a look at this page, the edit history comparing my edit with yours. The edit on the left is how you left the page. The edit on the right is my restoration. You inadvertently cut off a good chunk of the entry.
That said, don't feel bad, especially if you're using Firefox and the Google Toolbar. There's a bug somewhere (at Mozilla or Google, it's been reported to both) that occasionally cuts off a good portion of Wikipedia articles. That's why there's a caution at the top of the edit window, and that's why the message above says, "It might not have been your intention..." It seems to happen randomly and it even happened to me, after which I uninstalled the toolbar pending a fix.
If you still have questions, feel free to leave another message. Please sign your talk page edits with four tildes, so others don't have to look back through an edit history to see who you are. Happy editing - Baseball,Baby! balls strikes 01:04, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Douglas Patrick Harrison

I wrote the article on Douglas P. Harrison that was put up by ip 24.249.147.3. I was wondering if you could give me some insight on why it was declined as I personally feel it was carried out rather quickly. I know I can make the page myself now that I'm registered but don't want to go against your decision yet.

I've reviewed the Wikipedia:Notability (people) page and under Alternative Tests it lists the professor test. This tests states, "If the individual is more well known and more published than an average college professor (based on the U.S. practice of calling all full-time academics professors), they can and should be included." Compared to other professors, he is involved in more research and articles than what I consider the average professor, and he held an endowed chair. The research facility he works with is often ranked in the top 20 in terms of grants for Chemical Engineering research. He has articles based on his area of expertise, a patent, awards for teaching and research, and is invited to speak at conferences dealing with his area of expertise. The last reason, lectuering at conferences, also shows he is, and I quote from Wikipedia:Notability (academics), "#2 The person is regarded as an important figure by those in the same field."

Also, under the same page, Wikipedia:Notability (academics), under "Caveats" it lists, "Note that as this is a guideline and not a rule, exceptions may well exist. Some academics may not meet any of these criteria, but may still be notable for their academic work. It is important to note that it is very difficult to make clear requirements in terms of numbers of publications or their quality: the criteria, in practice, vary greatly by field." I feel this applies to Douglas Harrison as most ChE research isn't blasted in the public eye like other areas and used more by the relatively private and quiet field of Chemical Engineering. Research knowledge is taken from journals, lectures, and consultations and applied to industrial problems by Chemical Engineers working in the field. There is no "off the shelf" product to purchase and he is in part responsible for making coal-fired power plants not billowing pollution facilities anymore.

He has served also as professor and a dissertational advisor to Ph.D. and M.S. students, which Tupsharru, in the Wikipedia_talk:Notability_(academics) said, "Being a doctoral dissertation advisor, a "Doktorvater" as the Germans call it, certainly puts the person in another league than somebody who just teaches undergraduates." He has worked with over 40 graduate students as advisor, which is a large number in a field where only 5000 undergradutes graduate a year and usually less than 1% goes on to any graduate work in Chemical Engineering.

Douglas Harrison has definately a notable chemical engineer. Reflux 03:00, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for the help. I wish I could go through the article tonight and possibly create it, but I don't have time today. I guess I can say my main motive for attempting to start that article is to expand the List of chemical engineers. I've already made a few edits to it before I had the account like removing Cindy Crawford. I plan on grabbing my Chemical Engineering magazines and Perry's Handbook, when time allows, to expand other articles related to ChE and find other people who have helped move this area of engineering forward. It's, in comparison to other fields, still relatively new. I also guess because I'm ChE I'm a bit in favor of adding them ;) Reflux 04:11, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Possible Vandalism on John Linton Roberson page

I'm sorry to bother you about this, but as you'll see by the talk page and history, this anonymous user is continuing to do what he's been doing. If he'd leave the page as it was until this is settled, I'd revert nothing, but he doesn't, and then hypocritically asserts his right to continue to do so and that I should be the only one to abide by your warning. He's also getting very belligerent and abusive, and is even accusing me of being the subject. I don't know why this is such a big issue, but I think he's proven his bad faith here and documented it. I'm just trying to maintain the work others did, while he only wants to deface the page in any way he can. This is weird and I think you should speak to the anonymous user. lulujannings

Sorry,

I would like to translate the article in french and I have made a "bad edit". Sorry. 195.7.103.51 08:35, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Hey You.

Your Someone.

brewhaha@freenet.edmonton.ab.ca: Shouldn't you be ing recent changes and mentioning them in the talk page before you revert them? What's half an hour of lag for a breach of style?

Look at one of your edits of the troll page. I was saying that people like you don't exist, following people around undoing all recent changes. I cut and pasted your comment on my style into the talk page for internet trolls.

Thanks for supporting my RfA!

Thanks for contributing to my successful RfA!
To the people who have supported my request: I appreciate the show of confidence in me and I hope I live up to your expectations!
To the people who opposed the request: I'm certainly not ignoring the constructive criticism and advice you've offered. I thank you as well!

My RfA thanks

Hello KrakatoaKatie/Archive 2, and thank you for your strong support at my Request for Adminship, which succeeded with an overwhelming final count of (105/2/0). I was very pleased with the outpouring of kind words from the community that has now entrusted me with these tools, from the classroom, the lesson in human psychology and the international resource known as Wikipedia. The Free Encyclopedia. Please feel free to leave me plenty of requests, monitor my actions (through the admin desk on my userpage) and, if you find yourself in the mood, listen to some of what I do in real life. In any case, keep up the great work and have a fabulous day. Grand master ka 06:31, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hello!

I just got your message in regards to my page on Mike Leonard, and I'd like to thank you for your input, suggestions, and corrections. It is nice to have someone help and explain to me what it is I should change and why rather than simply criticizing me for not doing it perfectly. I really appreciate it!

Take care, and thanks again!

Hi BaseballBaby, thanks for the reversions. I've referred the situation to a bureaucrat and an admin with oversight privileges. Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my talk page. What kind of idiot vandalises user talk pages? Surely they realise that we get the new messages thing. -- David Mestel( Talk) 14:55, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

school

I attended a school and added to the page and it got deleted and i recived this "Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits, such as those you made to The Hershey Montessori Farm School, are considered vandalism. If you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. Please stop, and consider improving rather than damaging the hard work of others. Thanks. Baseball,Baby! balls•strikes 01:38, 22 July 2006 (UTC)" It was not offensive and it was to correct that the school is the only one that is closest to the erdkinder writtings. It is also not a suck up school not eveybody goes to expensive prep schools, which should not be the impression given out, it should show that eveyone is welcome not only rich and smart children. I am offended that my additon was deleted.

Thank you for contributing the impressive the pile of supports gathered on my RfA, which passed with a final tally of 0x0104/0x01/0x00. I'm happy that so many people have put faith in my abilities as an admin and promise to use the tools wisely and do my best not to let you down. If I ever may be of assistance, just leave a note on my talk page.
Misza 13, the rouge-on-demand admin wishes you happy editing!

Tyrenius 20:02, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

unsigned comment

Question for you (help plz)

I know you'd know how to do it so I'm asking for some help. Long time wikipedia user (mainly just reading) and just registered so I'm trying to learn how to use all the tools. Is it possible to send a private message to another user? If so, how? Thank you Reflux 23:59, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Uncategorised lists

Hi, I saw you've been working on User:Bluemoose/Uncategorised lists. Thanks. Also, you don't need to mention that you finished a section. Just remove the entry or section you categorised. Much easier. Garion96 (talk) 19:36, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes, the instructions are not really clear. Another thing (which also wasn't clear), you don't have to put every article in Category:Lists, but they all have to be in a subcategory of that category. Plus of course the other non lists categories. Garion96 (talk) 00:43, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Eluchil404's RfA

Thank you for taking the time to express an opinion in my recent request for adminship. I have withdrawn my self-nomination because there seemed little prospect for further productive discussion or the formation of a consensus to promote. Many commentators offered constructive critisism that I will use to improve myself as a user. Others suggested that the nomination was premature and that a re-nom in a few months would be more likely to gain consensus. I will strive to continuously improve as an editor and address the conerns you mentioned in your comment. Thanks. Eluchil404 20:36, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

thank you for reverting the vandalism by Yavari Govain on the Richmond, California article. Its greatly appreacited since I've done a lot of hard work on it and its so easiy tarnished by repeatedly added factual innacuracies, nonsense, terrible grammer, and poorly formatted and untagged images. 71.142.71.145 01:18, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Help

Hey Baseball Baby, I'm having some trouble and I thought that maybe you'd be able to help me out. A couple weeks ago you helped me with copyright issues on a photo that was on the Mike Leonard page. I made another page on Brendan Leonard and both of the photos have a copyright issue....it says I need a better explanation of the fair use rational and I thought I summarized it okay? I don't know, I am just very confused and would appreciate your help! Thanks in advance.

tips for authoring: "Edward Thomas Branch"

Thank you for reviewing my 7/21 article on Edward Thomas Branch.

I've edited, deleted the less noteworthy information, and tried to make it use more encyclopedia style.

Please forgive the newbie ignorance. Is there a place/way to add comments for review? Specifically, I started this article/page as a destination link for http://en.wikipedia.org/?title=First_Texas_Legislature&oldid=64934075 which is already tagged for the additional wikilink. But I don't know about linking the two articles.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Also thought this might help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability#Don.27t_delete_historical_persons_based_on_modern_tests

corrected copyright violation: "TackleTour"

Thank you for reviewing my 8/1 article on TackleTour.

I've edited, deleted the portion I cut and paste from the site's "about" section and rewrote it in my own words. I also apologize for the newbie ignorance. I have been fishing for 4 years and this is my favorite resource for tackle questions. I learned about teh site's history by participating on their forums, and asked for permission from the staff before I posted. Thank you for your help.
