Brenda Almond draft

Alas, it seems that this draft was deleted in less than 12 hours giving me no chance to respond.

It was marked as "copyright" violation. This is not correct. There were quotes from a page that were clearly marked as quotes, otherwise the page was all a summary in encyclopedia style of this UK women philosopher's work. Please reinstate the draft. If there is TOO much from the Times Higher profile that can be reduced. Emerald Gibb ( talk) 11:02, 4 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi Emerald Gibb, thanks for leaving a message, if I recall correctly, earwig's copyvio detector had reported the page share around 70% similarity with internet sources. If you intended on quoting, the quotes are probably too long to justify fair use, see WP:COPYQUOTE. Would like to hear the deleting admin's thoughts on this. Just i yaya 13:27, 4 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi, Justiyaya. 90% of the page was just getting the basic facts straight - quite different material to the profile piece. The basics are the books and also posts held. Then in line with other similar BLPs I added a quote describing the person - so yes, this is from the THE page. Then I added some more general comment that drew on the profile in a general sense. TBH this part was more like a 'stub' to be developed. But 90% of the page was the basic background facts. Nothing to do with "copying". I was given no chance to respond and that's not good practice Emerald Gibb ( talk) 13:46, 4 November 2021 (UTC)

CSDs are only reserved for cases where an WP:AFD is not necessary, hence the criteria is quite stringent, you draft was deleted in a short time frame because of copyright reasons which falls under criteria WP:G12. I cannot view the deleted page, so I don't know exactly what happened, but I'm assuming that you inserted overly long quotes into the draft. (also mentioned below) I would strongly recommend that you drop the draft and choose another task to do on Wikipedia (see WP:TASK). Just i yaya 16:22, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
Copyright violations are deleted when they are discovered. Putting quotation marks around a section of the article doesn't mean that it isn't a copyright violation. At most you can quote snippets of, say, a book review, but you can't use sentences or paragraphs of content from another website or printed source. There are legal reasons why we must delete this content. Liz Read! Talk! 02:30, 5 November 2021 (UTC)

What to do now

Would it be better if I put a version back that IS just the basics maybe? Books and posts held? Reviews in notable sources? 13:53, 4 November 2021 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Emerald Gibb ( talkcontribs)

@ Emerald Gibb I would strongly recommend that if you genuinely wish to make a positive contribution to Wikipedia, that you drop the draft, and chose a task in Wikipedia:Task Center Just i yaya 16:05, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
Writing an article is probably the most challenging thing to do as a beginner, why not try something else? Maybe copyediting will better suit you? Just i yaya 16:24, 4 November 2021 (UTC)

Question from Pat-jpnk (00:10, 19 November 2021)

Hey, I made an edit to the Heapsort article, specifically the siftDown function, could you double check it ? I provided a code example in my first edit -- Pat-jpnk ( talk) 00:10, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi Pat-jpnk, I have almost no knowledge on programming, would you like me to contact someone who would be more knowledgeable about the topic? Just i yaya 01:40, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

I am 95% sure that my change is correct, but someone changed it back, so I think that would be good, maybe share this link with them, it shows the method implemented: https://github.com/pat-jpnk/algorithms/blob/main/sorting/heapsort.py — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pat-jpnk ( talkcontribs) 04:10, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
