Epstein

Hi there, sorry for the confusion. I can reassure you that I do not believe any Epstein conspiracy theories- nor would I ever impose my personal views onto Wikipedia if I did- but was just trying to point out the ruling of what caused his death was a source of great controversy. I also thought pointing that out would be okay since the title of the article was "Death of Jeffrey Epstein", not "Suicide of", which therefore made me think Wikipedia editors who were antecedent to myself had sought to preserve ambiguity for the sake of neutrality, as it were. -- 222.152.255.9 ( talk) 02:08, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the ping. I reverted because, as I understand it, that infobox field is for the officially reported cause of death only, not supplemental information. We have to be careful when writing about conspiracy theories that we don't give undue prominence to fringe theories, and conspiracy theories about Epstein's death are already treated pretty appropriately in his biography. Those conspiracy theories are really no more prominent than conspiracies about other famous people's sudden deaths, but as examples none of these biographies mention anything other than the official or widely-reported cause of death in the biography's infobox: John Lennon ("gunshot wounds"), Kurt Cobain ("suicide by gunshot"), Diana, Princess of Wales ("car crash"), and the death which probably led to the most prominent and famous conspiracies of anyone, John F. Kennedy ("assassination by gunshot"). Conspiracy theories about Epstein's death seem to us to have gained more attention because of our recentism bias, and also because of an internet meme (which appropriately has a separate article), but even if some YouTubers with significant followings started to write about theories that Paul McCartney died in 1966 and was replaced by an impersonator, we would not update McCartney's biography to include that information. So I put this right. Perhaps send this for comment by a British English native group if you are still unsure as to correct usage. Thanks. 212.236.40.78 ( talk) 06:36, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

You're right, but that wasn't the nicest edit summary. –– FormalDude talk 06:39, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
Oops, yea you're right... Read the part after the citation and thought it didn't make any sense, turned out it did... sorry about that. Just i yaya 06:41, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.
