User:Doug Weller, whether Tiwanaku was an empire or not is still debated and there are different theories about it. It says so in the article itself that the empire label might be misleading and the term "state"
more commonly used and is relatively undisputed. Using Western notions of an “empire,” it is difficult to understand what Tiwanaku was, since Tiwanaku was significantly different from ancient empires such as those in the Middle East; Therefore scientists invent new terms like pulsating ceremonial urbanism or festival city (see
Vranich, Alexei. "Monumental perceptions of the Tiwanaku landscape." Political landscapes of capital cities (2016): 181-211, p. 189); William Isbell is calling Tiwanaku
Polity or state which might be a more appropriate term; I also think we should move the page
Tiwanaku Empire to
