Martin ("Marty") Sherard Simpson (born January 10, 1972), is a comedian, actor, performer, and motivational speaker from Columbia, South Carolina (U.S.A.)
After becoming South Carolina's very first U.S.A. Today High School football 1st team All-American, and receiving a full scholarship to play football for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, Marty would go on to teach and coach for 8 years and then start his own interactive media business.
While playing football in high school he would set 3 different State Records in the field goal kicking category. The first, in 1988, was a record tying 57 yard field (distance record), the next would be in 1989 when he converted 55 extra-points in a row, and the last was when he broke his formerly tied record of 57 yards with a 61 yard field goal versus Hilcrest of Dazel. Marty's junior year, Spring Valley (his school) won the AAAA State Championship 3 to 0 versus Gaffney (Gaffney, SC) on a field goal on the last play of the game that Marty would make. Marty was named a pre-season Street and Smith's first team All-American place-kicker and would make USA Today and Parade Magazine's first team selections at the end of the season.
After reviewing more than 40 full scholarship offers from Division 1 schools, Marty decided to stay home and play football for the University of South Carolina. In 1992, Marty would become the first Gamecock to ever score points in the Southeastern Conference, when his 26 yard field goal versus Georgia, in the SEC debut game, would sail through the uprights, giving the Gamecocks the lead 3 to zero. The Gamecocks would go on to lose that ball game 28 to 6. This little known fact was errantly reported in the book chronicling the 100 year history of South Carolina football. The error was simply a mistake on the author's part, crediting the first points in the S.E.C. to a player named a name that never even played for South Carolina.
Marty first realized he should be a comedian while teaching and coaching at Ben Lippen School, in Columbia, South Carolina. During a parent conference, when confronted about why Coach Simpson wasn't playing this particular parent's son at wide-receiver, Marty responded, "Maybe you should come to practice and watch us bounce the ball off your son's facemask."
Marty's headmaster at the time offered Marty the suggestion that he should do comedy.
It wasn't until 8 years later though that Marty would pursue a career in comedy. After becoming a successful football coach (1996-2002), and then starting his own business (www.blueeyedpanda.com 2002-present), Marty decided, in 2008, to become a working comedian.
After a few successful performances at the Comedy House in Columbia, Marty began doing comedy regularly with other "clean" comics in the area.
His break came in February of 2009 when the B.E.T. hosted an open call audition for a new television series called "A Time to Laugh." Marty would be the only caucasian chosen for the show. The show taped in March of 2009 and is slated to air sometime in late spring or early summer of 2009. Marty was featured as one of 30 stand-up comedians to perform and was also in 6 comedy sketches which will air as parts of other episodes.
Marty's comedy features real life stories from his coaching days, from his family life, and from other areas of his personal life. Marty's comedy does not contain vulgarities and is rarely not appropriate for all ages.
Marty is married to the former Ashley Mercer of Pawley's Island, South Carolina and has two children, Savannah (born in 1999) and Walton (born in 2002.)

You need the copyright holder to mail a WP:CONSENT declaration to the permission e-mail address. All content that has previously been published needs to have this sort of release on file. The other alternative is to ask the copyright holder to add a notice on their webpage that they release the image under a free license of their choice (this avoids having to e-mail the permission in). Okay, so you have done a splendid job with this page, however you will need to tweak it as time comes. One of the first tweaks would be to change the picture from a two person to a one person picture. This will give marty simpson greater credibility.
