you recently blocked my computer's IP adress. the notice that it was blocked came with the comments: "long time vandal", "insults" and "death threats" (?????). i have no idea what those comments are talking about- i've checked every last one of the editions made on that adress and could not find anything meriting vandalism, insults or, death threats. i also noticed that the adress had no talk page warning that vandalism was happening. is it possible that a mistake was made? if so get back to me and please unblock the adress. thankyou- Ryan shell 01:08, 10 May 2007 (UTC) reply

As far as I can see, you are mistaken. 63.215.29.11 ( talk · contribs) clearly has a talk page, and the reason for block seems quite clear from the edit history. The block is set for anon only; you seem to be able to edit ok while logged in? I noticed you had some pictures of the projects. I'm kind of curious as to what your experience is in taking pictures in certain areas of the city as far as crime around where you're taking photographs. I've been pretty interested lately in taking some photographs of the magnolia and calliope projects, but don't want to get caught in the middle of something, and have it end up a not so pleasant experience. I've been a mid city dweller for most of my life so far, and not to say we haven't had our fair share of crime, but I know at least before the hurricane I wouldn't have attempted to take photographs in certain uptown and central city neighborhoods. - mike / vexxev

I didn't put myself into places I felt were dangerous, but I guess it's a personal thing. In the months after the storm I felt safe in some areas I probably would have avoided before, and some I might avoid now. However I used to sometimes go to second lines that passed through or by the Magnolia, and even played in one there-- while I wouldn't waunder around there alone after dark, I never got the feeling that it was inherently dangerous going anywhere near there any time. I have come to you directly, rather than clog up the article's talk page any further. What a difference The Pond makes! I had not realised that Millie was billed with her surname attached in the States. She is simply "Millie" to us Brits. In fact, the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles - 19th Edition - ISBN  1-904994-10-5, has her billed just as Millie (although her surname is mentioned in the text). Bearing the differences in mind (much more than this one, of course) I rather retract my earlier, somewhat intransient, stance. Perhaps it is wise to see what others have to say on the matter. Hello there. Recently you edited Ted Lewis (musician) and Little Brother Montgomery. On the Ted Lewis article you replaced solo_singer with clarinetist in the background field, and on Montgomery's infobox you replaced solo_singer with solo_musician, neither of which produce a color for identification. I am curious to know if I am ignorant of certain practices, as Template:Infobox musical artist instructs users of the musical artist infobox to use one of the following background:

• solo_singer All vocal solo artists (includes lead and background singers, singer-songwriters and singer-instrumentalists)
• non_vocal_instrumentalist All non-vocal instrumentalists
• non_performing_personnel All non-classical composers, producers, songwriters, arrangers, DJs, engineers, and other *non-performing personnel
• group_or_band All groups, bands, crews, or other non-classical music ensembles
• cover_band Cover and tribute bands (same as Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums' color for covers/tribute albums)
• classical_ensemble All orchestras and other classical music ensembles

What is the purpose of the color schemes, if we do not actually use them as guidelines? Ted Lewis is a singer-instrumentalist, so he should get solo_singer placed in the background field. The same can be said for Little Brother Montgomery. Please let me know what relevant article to read for further instruction on musician infoboxes if I have somehow misinterpreted the guidelines. Hi there. Thanks for cleaning up after me so often. Solo_singer is only an indicator for what color the infobox should be, and has nothing to with how involved in singing they actually were. They can be more dominant on another instrument, but if they are a vocalist also then they are marked solo_singer in the background field. The same can be said for non_vocal_instrumentalist in the background field. The background field is there ONLY to designate correct color schemes. Certainly I consider various actions and what order to take them in. If I think something has been done incorrectly I may try to correct it with a note of explanation to the other party (admin or not). The Archimedes Plutonium article was something of a mess, but it seems to me that the unilateral decision to delete it (IMO out of proper process) made things even more of a mess. I don't see why after the article has existed for several years, on 1 June 2007 it suddenly became imperative to speedy delete it immediately without going through AfD. Process is imperfect, but it exists for good reasons. The attempts to do end runs around process have resulted in the situation being more, not less, difficult. I hope all is good with you. Listen, I have been wondering for a while about why there is no category devoted to [[Category:New Orleans jazz musicians]] and it really has puzzled me. This is exactly what I did not want to happen. The person states New Orleans is "sometimes" considered the birthplace of jazz. No, New Orleans is THE birthplace of jazz. Hello. I noticed your message on this user's talk page about blocking him. He is on a wikibreak and has not made any edits for about two weeks. Wouldn't it be better to wait until he comes back? Perhaps he has an explanation. I would assume good faith. It may be that he has some personal photos of CNR that are from the same time period and that he mixed up the images that he had saved to his computer from various sources. I have had many disagreements with this editor in the past, but I never felt that he acted maliciously or that he would purposely violate copyright law. Thank you for your feedback. I've made quite a bit of allowance for assumptions of good faith regarding the editor's image tagging and edits over the past few years. I think Wikipedia was very lucky that the apparent actual photographer has been remarkably nice about the whole thing, otherwise it could have caused serious problems. Should the user have something to say about the matter (he was already asked by the apparent actual photographer, and erased the query without response) I'm willing to listen. Re the above, there is no known source for the image. When the Four Courts was destroyed, the photographic articles in it were also destroyed. Those pieces that did survive were minus any source details as to who took them. (Presumably the documents and the photographs were separated by the explosion.) All that is known is that it is a surviving image, of unknown origin, of the interior. However given its age there are no copyright issues, as the image predates 1922, and is thought likely to date from the first couple of years of the twentieth century. The source who supplied me the image said that he had sought unsuccessfully for dates and photographer details for the images he had salvaged. Their ownership appears to be a case of legal limbo because of the destruction of all details concerning ownership and origins. But in any case, their age means that there are no copyright concerns. Sorry I cannot be more specific. No-one I have been able to speak to about these and other four courts images can offer any help as to their origins, other than to presume that they somehow survived the destruction and must have been found, as some documents were, by passers by.

In any case, as a unique image, there is no other alternative image available to highlight the original interior. Not just the interior was lost but almost all pictorial records of the interior, were lost in the piece of cultural destruction that was the blowing up of the Four Courts. I have a few questions related to copyright issues of "my own pictures". I don't expect answers to every question, but any comments would be appreciated, be it personal opinions, or pointers to rules/guidelines or discussion pages.

1. Are nature scenes always ok? Guess normally yes, but are there exeptions?

2. Are man-made objects ok? When is permittance from designers, architects, producers, owners necessary (and in what form), and when is no explicit permittance needed?

3. Are people ok? When is permittance from persons on a picture necessary (and in what form), and when is no explicit permittance needed?

4. (This also goes for sound and/or video clips:) Is a 'performance' (like singing, dancing, playing, running, working, cooking, fighting, crying, praying, public speech, etc) ok ? When is explicit permittance needed, from performers, songwriters, choreographers, organizers of sports events, theatre or stadion owners, etc., needed (and in what form), and when is no explicit permittance needed? What about other events, like accidents, children playing, spectators at a concert or sports event.

5. About notability of pictures - Are only pictures used in articles ok? What about other pictures, are they welcomed or not? If I upload, say, ten pictures of a mountain and use only one, or ten different statues in a park and use one or two, or ten pictures from a concert, or 'all' items from a museum and use a few of them - would the 'extra' stuff be considered unwanted noice?

Hi. See Wikipedia:Copyrights and Wikipedia:Image use policy for details of policies of much of what you bring up. In short, your own original photos which you're willing to free licence are very welcome. Don't violate someone else's copyright-- for example, if you take a photo of a modern copyrighted poster the copyright still resides with the poster's copyright holder, not you. Songs (unless they are old enough to have become public domain) are usually under copyright. Check that link and related pages for more details. Wikipedia does allow for some "fair use" of copyrighted material under limited circumstances where it is relevent to the article; see Wikipedia:Fair use. Images uploaded to Wikipedia should be directly relevent to and intended for a specific article. However, please check out our related image project, Wikimedia:Commons. For example if you took 10 good photos of a mountain, you could upload them to Commons, then put them in a gallery and/or category (explained there) about the mountain. Images on Commons can be put directly into Wikipedia articles just as if you uploaded them here, plus there are other advantages: images on Commons can also be directly linked in wikipedia projects in other languages-- so an editor in the German or Spanish language version of Wikipedia might pick a different one of your 10 photos to illustrate the article about the mountain in their language Wikipedia. As an example of one of the many articles that have a link to additonal images on Commons, see for example Uxmal (the link to Commons is at the bottom of the page). If you have a fair number of original images you're willing to upload under a free licence, I encourage you to sign in at Commons as well-- it takes a seperate log in, but most users use the same user name. (Note that unlike here Commons does not accept any "fair use" of copyrighted material, because this is not allowed in some other countries.) I hope this helps get you started; take some time familiarizing yourself with the Image use policy and copyrights, and if you have specific questions ask on the article talk page or here. In light of the possibility of a common password for all Wikipedia projects I have a question for you. I have been a very active user on Swedish Wikipedia since February 6th 2005, I'm an administrator, I'm the press contact for svwp and I'm on the Swedish version of WP:ArbCom, all under the name of Hannibal. I also have an account on Commons under the same name since September 2005. But here, on enwp, there's someone else registrered under the name of Hannibal. This user, apparently, have not made any contributions since November 2003 (see Hannibal's contributions). Now, I have read the guidelines for changing usernames and usurping usernames, and from there it would seem that it would not be possible for me "get" the username of Hannibal. Am I right in thinking that, or would it be possible to make some sort of exception in this case, as this would, potentially mean that I could have the same username on all Wikipedias (at least on the ones I care about, I haven´t actually checked if the Hungarian WP have a user called Hannibal...)?

Since I am asking for a rule to be bent here, I of course am prepared for a 'no', but I would still very much appreciate any thoughts you have on this matter.

Replying to your message from my talk page: From what I can tell, there are three points made about her in the article and three possible claims to notability:

1. She performed in Broadway theatre
2. She recorded with Ben Pollack's band
3. She was married to more than one famous person

By themselves, none of these make the person in question particularly notable, maybe not even together. The easiest way to assert notability would be to expand on one or more of those points. For example, there are lots of people who performed in Broadway, recorded with Ben Pollack or were married to a famous person, none of which are particuallarly notable. I don't know much on the subject but if you can expand on at least one of those points (the last one looks the most promising), then it may assert notability. If you find that you cannot expand on any of these points, the person may not be notable.

Of course, you're always welcome to remove the prod notice and, since I have many other little wiki things to do and you seem to want to improve the article, I won't even consider it for deletion for a couple of weeks, so no pressure to get it up to code immediately.

Also, finding out if she's alive or dead may help a bit. If a person can completely vanish without the news noticing, it does not help her notability case.

Hi Infrogmation. Since you are an administrator and someone I consider well versed on music, I was wondering if you could help me out here. Someone has proposed deleting lots of lists I have compiled to accentuate categories I created. I believe that I am the target of someone, as the lists themselves are like any other list. I don't have the inclination to contest each nomination, as it seems someone wishes to cause headaches for me. 1) What is the section header refering to? 2) Casals was famous internationally billed as "Pablo" over a dozen years before the Spanish Civil War, as you would know if you cared to do any research about the artist or Catalan history. 3) The article at present says his birth name was "Pau", and he was often known professionally as "Pablo". As far as I can see, this is a simple statement of historical fact. If you think this is inaccurate, please provide better information. 4)If you think articles on Wikipedia can be improved, you are encouraged to improve them. A very bad strategy for achiving anything useful would include negative actions such as: acting contrary to Wikipedia policies repeatedly after they have been explained to you, trying to impugne the motives of anyone who has a different perspective, trying to make what should be a demonstration of facts into a personal argument, trying to put dubious words in other people's mouths, and blanking or vandalising user pages. (Such strategies would be more likely to result blocks and reverts than creation of improvements.) Pablo Casals is a Catalan figure, not Spanish. In the same way that Scottish are not called anything else, I would appreciate if Catalan personalities are not called Spanish.

Alexander Graham Bell could be called British but he is not, he is described as Scottish. It is the same case with Pau Casals!

I've been given clearance to license the image according to Creative Commons Attribution 2.5; as long as the author and license is attributed. I'll modify the image summary now, and you can do what you please with the deletion log. Also, on another image note, I'm not quite sure as to the licensing regarding school yearbook images. I uploaded this image previously (but I now wish to upload it at Commons); it was originally posted at Flickr. However, the CC information states it is unacceptable for use at Commons. This image, though, which was originally posted at Flickr here, has the same licensing, but is apparently acceptable. Please look again. One has "Some rights reserved" which if you click on gives a Creative Commons licence (OK for Commons) while the other has a "© All rights reserved" licence (non free licence). Look on the Flickr page for copyright info on individual images. If it is an original image by a Flickr user in good standing licenced under a Creative Commons licence, it may be uploaded to Commons under that same licence. 23-Aug-2007: Hi, Wikid77 here. I haven't spent much time on NOLA articles this month. That image of a flooded Mobile parking lot was retouched to move a lamp-post away from the cars to clarify the view. I was near Point Clear, AL during Hurricane Katrina (and near Houston, TX) in Hurricane Rita. From other photos of flooded Mobile, I see the Mobile River flooded both banks pushing hundreds of boats/barges ashore, Mobile's Water Street was underwater 6-ft (or more) for many blocks. Waves in Mobile Bay were often 22-24 feet high (flooding hundreds of 1-storey beach homes), so they closed the Jubilee Parkway (the "Bay Way" elevated I-10 spans); the Battleship USS Alabama tilted in the sediment (but was leveled months later). Thousands of trees were down; the official report said predictions of windspeeds around Mobile Bay were all "too low" and hurricane-force gusts were common. Further east, Navarre Beach (south of Pensacola) had flooded cars in some parking lots on Santa Rosa Island, over 180 miles from downtown NOLA.

I have learned that some areas along Lake Pontchartrain had winds almost as strong as Waveland, MS, but not for as many hours. More could be expanded, but the massive flood deaths in NOLA really need explanation (I recommend a separate article), because Biloxi flooded 30-35 feet and hundreds were rescued. Certainly there are many details of the disaster that could use significant expansion. Given the scope of the destructuction, if something is surprising I think it is how low the death toll was. Locally, for everyone we know who didn't make it there are so very many more with amazing stories of narrow escape. If the Federal help was delayed by just one more day, I think the death toll would have been massively higher, as so many were at the brink of fatal dehydration. While the Coast Guard crews who did helicopter rescues (against orders) are heros and made great television, the folks they rescued are far outnumbered by those rescued by volunteers, people in the area who happened to have an intact boat-- we could use an article on the heros of the " Cajun Navy" as it was nicknamed.
