FA nom of Richard Hawes

The more I thought about it, the more I began to think that either Richard Hawes or George W. Johnson (Civil War) needs to be FA for Confederate government of Kentucky to pass FT. Hawes is the obvious choice, as Johnson only lived to be 50, held only two political offices, and spent most of his life as a farmer. The GA reviewer of the Hawes article recommended an FA run anyway, so we'll see what happens. If consensus shows that there isn't enough information available about Hawes to meet FA's comprehensiveness requirement, at least we'll have justification for leaving it at GA status when we start the FT nom. You can keep track of the nom by watching Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Richard Hawes. I can already hear the screams about page numbers echoing through my head. Am I glutton for punishment or what? Acdixon ( talk contribs count) 17:14, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

We did it!

Confederate government of Kentucky is FA! Check out WP:FA under History. User:SandyGeorgia put the FA star on the article page, and her edit summary said that a bot would update the talk page. Thanks for the help. Let's hope Richard Hawes goes smoother. Acdixon ( talk contribs count) 20:40, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Richard Hawes passed with no opposition! Never had that happen before. We're in the home stretch now; only an FT nom to go. I've started it here. Acdixon ( talk contribs count) 23:17, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
Looks like we're in for it again. I may be wrong on this, but this first oppose looks like another one who is hostile to the subject itself. His insistence on putting "members" and "government" in quotation marks in his opposition makes me wonder. Acdixon ( talk contribs count) 21:40, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
Not sure how long FT noms generally take. I've never done one before. The "votes" are 3 to 1 in support at this point, so maybe a couple more supports would be enough. I'm going to give it a little bit longer, then I may post it at WP:Louisville to see if we can pick up some more opinions. Acdixon ( talk contribs count) 22:41, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
FYI, User:Arctic Gnome has indicated to me that he will promote this topic barring any additional oppose votes in the next couple of days. The end is in sight! Acdixon ( talk contribs count) 15:05, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Georgewjohnson gravestone.jpg)

⚠

Thanks for uploading Image:Georgewjohnson gravestone.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the " my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. FloNight ♥♥♥ 23:04, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

New featured article collaboration

While we let the FT nom marinate ad nauseum, another editor and I have proposed a new featured article collaboration that I think you'll be interested in. Check it out here. Acdixon ( talk contribs count) 12:00, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

I found a pretty good book on UK basketball history that was published in 1984. It'll take me a while to exhaust the facts from it, so if you and WildManKY would like to focus on the period from 1984 to the present, that would probably be most helpful. If we can get some information for every period, then we can expand and refine it. Acdixon ( talk contribs count) 13:26, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
I think it will take quite a while to chronicle the greatest college basketball program of all time! Enjoy your vacation; we'll be waiting when you get back. :) Acdixon ( talk contribs count) 20:43, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Barnstar

Thanks! There was no need - it was purely mechanical work to fill in a late evening. You might also be aware of the idea at the WP:KY talk page of a template to save time in citing common works. I have shamelessly stolen a template format to do a mockup at Template: Ref Kentucky, and am interested in your view on it and whether it would be likely to be used. It is currently a couple of historical works but could be expanded to any number and type of text. Comments, criticisms welcome. Euryalus 03:40, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Adolph rupp.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Adolph rupp.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot 07:59, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Tennessee Portal banner

Hi there, your Kentucky Portal banner is a piece of art! Can you make a banner like this for Tennessee, too? The TN Portal was just kicked off and a great impression would be perfect. Speedy deletion of Image:ArmyGCMRib.png

A tag has been placed on Image:ArmyGCMRib.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{ hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:ArmyGCMRib.png|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Speedy deletion of File:SkillsUSALogo.svg

A tag has been placed on File:SkillsUSALogo.svg, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

the User is not the copyright holder of the image. The image is respectfully copyrighted by, and all rights are reserved by SkillsUSA. Please seek permission from SkillsUSA rather than "creating" your own version of the file. Further, please change the license type to something more appropriate. The SkillsUSA logo is absolutely not Public Domain.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{ hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on [[Talk:File:SkillsUSALogo.svg|the article's talk page]] explaining your position. Welcome back

I've checked in on your edit history from time to time to see if you were still around. Glad to see you back. I'm still trudging through these governor articles and finding little diversions on the way. I basically single-handedly put together another featured topic on the Beauchamp-Sharp Tragedy, Wikipedia's first law featured topic. If all goes well, the main article from that topic will be on the home page July 7.
