Hej Rotten Stone - redigeringskonflikt :-)

Without exactly reading the Morris article, I suggest we use it as "basic minimum", to make truck brand articles look like it, meaning a few pics of different models to the right, oldest models in top, newer below. Then a history (from start thru takeovers and joint-ventures till today) , geography (about main markets in different eras, who builds spcifically for Siberian winter transport today, who sold a lot for Sahara desert in the 70's), eventual official visions (if the company officially wants to set a standard, take over a market or others) and then a list of models (linking to specific model groups like the Morris article does).
In the specific model articles I also suggest a look-alike, with infoboxes on the sub-models (as in the Volvo FH that I just created, it would be nice to have two boxes FH12 and FH16 to compare differences and to get a pic of each. Then the article text should contain time of production beginning (and eventually end of it), intended market, eventual unintended but often seen markets (like if intended for distribution, but often seen as fire engine or...). Then the articles should mention licenced versions produced elsewhere, engine sizes, load range, other tech. data.
hmm... I just had a few points more, but it escaped my head :-(
Basicly I have the opinion that any word or pic is better than a red link, but I'm not satisfied with "my" Volvo FH stub. I think that maybe we should set up some standard headlines for standard articles, saying "We want this mentioned in every article".
Maybe some of this should be copied to the wikiProject page?

Thank you for improving an article I recently started in the English Wikipedia called Cabin (truck) by inserting three pictures of trucks. Thanks for finding a replacement picture and inserting it into the Semi-trailer truck article. I think it's good - better than the other pics in that article now, but the tires on that truck are in a shadow and do not seem as completely clear as the Image:P2080.JPG image. I still have a slight preference for the Image:P2080.JPG image at this point. When this image is gone, it would be good to replace it with the image you selected. I have not done it yet, but I may substitute back until the Image:P2080.JPG is deleted, then put back the image you selected.
I am also working on a simple drawing of an 18-wheeler to show the basic parts of it. Sometimes diagrams can be made to show things clearer than photos. It may take me a little time to finish it. If you are an expert on trucks, you may want to take a look at it when I upload it. H Padleckas 02:35, 23 July 2007 (UTC) reply
Looks like Image:P2080.JPG has been deleted. We will use the pic you inserted now. H Padleckas 03:59, 25 July 2007 (UTC) reply
My idea
You might consider a drawing as seen from the top, with a chassis and the wheels. Example to the right.
Drawings might be a point of discussins on a page like this, since 18-wheelers are not the only configuration - it might be "the usual" in The States, but not in the rest of the world. Also in The States, 18 wheels would normally be divided as truck/10 semi/8, while in Europe it's often truck/6 and semi/12.
I'm not more expert than other truck drivers, but I've seen quite a few heavy vehicles around... :-)

Full discussion at Athol Mullen's talk page

What I put in the article is "usually with a large diesel engine and two or three axles." Note the word usually. Compare this diff of what I previously put in the article and what it was changed to by someone else.

"Most have 2 or more axles" is completely and utterly wrong. It's not possible for a truck to have only one axle. All trucks have 2 or more axles.

I've seen trucks with up to 5 axles. They do exist. They are rarely used as prime movers (tractor units) and are instead mostly used for heavy rigid trucks.

The vast majority of prime movers in Australia are 3-axle, even for road trains in excess of 100 tonnes. Allowing for the fact that some smaller prime movers here and in a lot of other countries are 2-axle, I believe that the statement as I put it is technically correct. Most have 2 or 3 axles. A very small number have more.

The question of bogie drive versus single drive and lazy axle is also fairly clear cut in Australia. A lot of rigid trucks run lazy axles but, having seen literally thousands of trucks over the years, I haven't seen one prime mover with a lazy axle since I started in this line of work in 1994. They may exist but they are extremely rare. It may be different elsewhere in the world, but the trucks that I've seen are from North America, Japan and Europe and are the same types as used in those markets. -- Athol Mullen 11:59, 27 July 2007 (UTC) reply
