Thats not what I said. I said that the topic of gray magic is unlikely to be discussed amongst serious occultists. This excludes any type of Wicca or Paganism since occultism and neo-crafts do not go hand in hand. True occultism predates anything created out of thin air in this century (and the last). I understood what you said perfectly, and you're entitled to your opinion about Wicca. I see you rationalise your value judgement in historical terms, Wicca not having been (provably) founded by Noah or Nimrod. This seems spurious to me, since you should know as well as I do that most occult organisations' claims to early provenance are shaky at best, and what is really important is how effective they are, whether they're 'contacted' or not, and so on. There is, of course, an underground stream of occult wisdom that surfaces in every sincere and effective group, and believe it or not, it's bubbling away quite merrily in Wicca.

But to address your historical argument: Wicca wasn't 'created out of thin air', but like any newly-founded occult movement it drew on existing esoteric traditions. To think otherwise is to credit Gerald Gardner with immense creative genius. The 'noteworthy scholar' Ronald Hutton discusses some of these influences, though in my opinion his scholarship is poor, and as soon as he steps out of the field of popular literature and into occultism he gets terribly lost (e.g. he attributes W B Yeats with having invented the symbol of the rose cross!). Philip Heselton does rather better, but the fact is, despite the publication of a few documents the more traditional modes of Gardnerian and Alexandrian working remain virtually unknown to the outside world. And to you. It's a secret society.

I suspect your prejudice against Wicca comes down to having seen too many teenagers in black crushed velvet, which has nothing to do with occultism, true, but nothing to do with Wicca either. But I'm happy to disagree on the matter, for the simple fact that I would find it distasteful recounting and comparing my various experiences in Wicca and in a number of other organisations, especially when I suspect you would discount everything I have to say. But remember that such value judgements are unnecessary and unkind, and while to some they may make you seem knowledgable and important, to others they will make you seem arrogant, elitist and even ignorant. Assumptions. I base my opinions pertaining to wikipedia related matters on the very large selections at book stores relevant to the subject. And none of which I'd buy, its effectiveness is largely non related to the discussion. What you've stated has only been discounted because its your personal opinions on the subject, and thats not what this should be about. In Hoodoo practice, as well as what I call "Appalachian granny magic", the Witching Hour is from a half-hour before to a half-hour past midnight, putting it right on the limnal cusp of a new day. Saw your reference to Mithras on your page. Interestingly enough, I was talking about Mithras in the office just this afternoon (dude was born on Dec. 25 of a virgin, but he could also take down a bull with his bare hands!) Got some props for that.

Regarding the Frey quotation in the Aidan Kelly article, I just wanted to make sure you knew I wasn't being argumentative about it; in fact, this business about "doing evil man-to-man" sounds very much influenced by the kind of post-Reformation Christianity poor Gardner would have been subject to--not the kind of thing I would personally relish--which is why I'm eager to see the reference to Frey's original source for the quote. Cheers, Rangergordon. I've fixed up the Frew attribution. The source itself, Ye Bok of Ye Art Magical, is not, to my knowledge, published anywhere. I do recall hearing that someone was intending or hoping to publish it as a sourcebook for Wiccans and researchers, but I can't for the life of me remember who this was! I actually have a copy if you want me to email it to you. It's fantastic reading it side by side with Hutton's response, which is over-the-top and horribly misrepresents Frew's argument. It's actually quite surreal that Hutton, amidst charges of misrepresenting other authors, proceeds to misrepresent the very author of those charges. Thanks for the note. No, I appreciate your efforts to bring some sanity to this disgusting article. I'd do a bit more myself, if I had any access to the proper reference materials. Iconography is a specialism, I know, and I'm not that way inclined (texts are my thing). But... I have grave doubts on whether the whole article should exist. There isn't and never was any such thing as 'Mithraism' -- not a single ancient literary source describes it in such terms --, so it just duplicates the Mithras article. But that's a can of worms I don't feel up to dealing with! (I'm using the 4 Roger Pearse 13:22, 21 August 2008 (UTC) but it just leaves it unhyperlinked) Roger Pearse 13:07, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi Fuzzypeg; An odd thing happens when I open the Chumbley talk page. A phantom tag shows up for just a moment and then dissapears. It's a POV tag disputing the contents of the article. Ha! Found it! Bongo/Redblossom made POV comments as "annon." with his usual IP addresses under comments regarding the biography tag. They flashed when I opened the page but had to be opened through the tag if I wanted to read them. The usual-stating the article is childish and POV and should be blanked. Anyway, I removed them since they were inappropriate to the tag. Wish there was something new to add to the article. Maybe something new will pop up soon. I looked at the article, and I see it calls the blood moon the moon after the harvest moon (the full moon nearest the equinox). I thought, for sake of information, I would share how we reckon them in our tradition:

Wolf Moon - The first full moon following Yule is the Wolf Moon. Predators stalk in the cold and the dark, and we must be wary to survive. The winds howl like their brothers.

Storm Moon - The second full moon following Yule is the Storm Moon. The last of the Winter storms become the first thunderstorms of Spring. The weather is at its fiercest, but the Sun is climbing and the Lady will soon return.

Chaste Moon - The last full moon between Yule and Ostara is the Chaste Moon. This is a time to make all things fresh and pure. We should also stop to reflect on the first buds and early shoots as the Lady returns.

Seed Moon - The first full moon following Ostara is the Seed Moon. This moon brings the first plantings of the season. The whole year's crop can succeed or fail depending on what happens during this moon.

Hare Moon - The second full moon following Ostara is the Hare Moon. It is a time of fertility, for pairings and matings. The hare is a symbol of fertility, as old as Roman times. Beltane comes near the end of the Hare Moon.

Dyad Moon - The last full moon that between Ostara and Litha is the Dyad Moon. It is the time of the twins, and the time when the Lord and Lady come together for Their wedding -- the time of the Sacred Marriage.

Mead Moon - The first full moon following Litha is the Mead Moon. "Meads," or meadows, are mowed for hay -- old stalks must be cleared so that the late harvest can grow. Honey mead is brewed, and last year's bottles are opened to celebrate weddings; those who coupled at Beltane now know who made a baby and who didn't.

Wort Moon - The second full moon following Litha is the Wort Moon. The first plants and herbs are gathered and dried at this time. As herbs mature in the heat of Summer, we must prepare for the darker months.

Barley Moon - The last full moon between Litha and Mabon is the Barley Moon. The Goddess of Rebirth carries a sheaf of barley; the last harvest -- the grain harvest -- must begin before the end of Virgo.

Blood Moon - The first full moon following Mabon is the Blood Moon. Wine grapes, the "blood" of the harvest, are ready now. Domestic animals are selected for slaughter or breeding stock, and the first kill is offered to the Gods.

Snow Moon - The second full moon following Mabon is the Snow Moon. This moon heralds the Darkness -- the first snows bring joy to children, even as the Sun dips low in the sky and the days grow short.

Oak Moon - The last full moon between Mabon and Yule is the Oak Moon. The oak is a most noble tree, for it withstands all the icy blasts of Winder. At this time, the acorns provide food for animals which would not otherwise survive. This is the time of the Oak King.

Blue Moon - The thirteenth and most magical of the moons is the Blue Moon, which is the third full moon to fall within season that has four full moons. On years which hold a Blue Moon, the first full moon after Mabon is called the Wine Moon, and wines made during that year are said to be especially fine, because the grapes have received the magic of the light from an additional full moon.

Hey Fuzzypeg. No you didn't come across too strong at all. In fact I think you put a very good case across, a case that I would support if I believed that the tide of "Wicca" being distinct from "Witchcraft" was reversible. I simply don't. Both in the USA and here in the UK now, "Wicca" has become so-commonly used to refer to the religion of "Witchcraft" and not simply to "British Traditional Wicca", that I think Wikipedia (and the BTW community for that matter) should simply give up the fight and focus on differenciating itself from the les-appealing elements of "Eclectic Wicca". Thanks for the back-up on the Horned God page, I've been trying to bring about some badly needed changes on various pagan-related articles recently, and I've had some real stubborn editors to deal with sometimes - one even went around deleting everything I did on almost any page, even when it was things like spelling and grammar! It's been nice to encounter a friendly editor who shares my view of making Wikipedia a genuinely-more informative place. I noticed on your user page that you had been involved with Vodou; I've recently been working on improving the Haitian Vodou page if you're interested in getting involved, that'd be a help, but no pressure, I don't want to pull you into all my little Wiki projects! Would you mind to stop addressing me in your comments on " The Horned God"? You are continually misrepresenting my position (eg: [1] where you say I support the "Horned Deity" article, whereas I have caveats as can be seen in my post. And [2] where you stated "moved relevant, well-cited information ... on the basis that it only relates to what he considers a historically inaccurate theory" which is incorrect, I deleted them because they were uncited, or the sources cited did not support the content in context of this article. see wp:v).

Your constant reference to myself makes it look like you're engaged in a personal confrontation with me and comes across as antagonistic, petty and bullying. Instead of being constructive, disrupts what should be a positive, collaborative atmosphere. At school a guy was talking about this book(called "The necronomicon") he wanted to "talk to the dead". One weekend at the mall I went to the bookstore. I found the book. Anyways I skimmed through it and I found it quite interesting. It had stuff I've never seen before. It was squares with symbols in the corners. I didn't get to read the book but I didn't even skim any of it. If I had to guess, I would say those "squares" were gates. I came here to ask you if this book is "authentic". If it is, I say that if those "symbols" were misplaced that they could open the wrong doors.

If someone is into witchcraft or wicca, is it possible to sense it if they are. This girl from flordia came to my school last year. I felt something weird about her. Turns out that later she told us that her mother was a pagan. I've had other stuff to happen as well. If this is possible, Is there a name for it?

I think the book was called "The Necronomicon" but I may have read it wrong. It may have been "The Necronominon". It definatly wasn't anything I've ever seen. It'll be something new for me to look in. I like fake magic as well as all types of Witchcraft, Wicca, and The Occult. It is interesting to me and makes a nice topic. I don't practice most of these studies however. Now days since I moved in with my Christian grandmother I can't do much. All I have at my house is some Tarot cards and I don't know what to do with those. I'm looking for a magic that doesn't involve candles and alters and all that. I want something that only involves the inner self (mind,body and spirit perhaps). Telekinesis is a hard skill to obtain. Like I can get the object to shake then I feel this excitement then it goes still again. Oh well. Whenever something strange happens I "Investigate". My top motto is "Never assume". It comes in handy. Like one time I was in my bed. Well my step-mom and my dad were in the living room which wasn't far from my room. Anyway the song "lips of an angel" popped up in my mind. Well my parents were listening to cmt on the t.v. Cmt is a country music channel. Well the country version of the song came on. I was a little freaked out but I told myself that it was a coincidence because I didn't want to go out think of something then it happen and start telling people about it. They would think i'm crazy. I can tell you something that isn't a coincidence. I had a B.O.S that I had started on in my top drawer in my shelf. I went to Memphis,Tennesse because my grandmother was in the hospital. I was there for three days. When I got back my step-mother told me that my dad had found the journal. She was all like "I thought you were out of witchcraft, Its devil stuff". Well my dad was doing something with a car. He had it on a trailer and he was pulling it with his truck. When I got home I went to my room and laid on my bed. I put every ounce of hate I had and put into him. I Wanted him to wreck and die. I just hated him so much. Well a few minutes later he called my step-mom and told her that the trailer had started to swerve behind him when he was driveing. I was so freaked out. I am 16 years old. I'm going to be 17 on june 2. I agree, I am immature. I'm not going to pretend I'm not, Its not me. I already observe everything. I seen this girl at school. She had a wrist band on. I go to her and ask her for her arm. She let me see it. Then I was going to look under it and she yanks it away. I knew that she cut her self. I seen her through the way I used to be. I have no clue how to use tarot cards. To be honest they aren't my thing. I have no books. I think about things. Most things come to me. Internet websites never tell much. I lay around wandering about things such as whats after death. Now I believe whats before life is whats after death. It's beyond me and it isn't my place to say whats what. I agree with you on the pyschological effects of witchcraft (magick,etc.). It can be addictive. People rush into it and try different things then want more and more. Then they become obsessed with it. Then their mind is warped. I'm different. May I say that by reading by last post you were able to see that I was young and inexperienced. You practice what you preach. I hoping I'm not intruding but how long did it take for you to become a magician? What can you do? I just want to bring peace to the world. I want people to see that nature is the basis of happiness. We have money. Money is evil. If people could see that in nature animals don't buy their food, they take it. If we could follow nature we would be better off. Hello once again Fuzzypeg. Apologies for reverting your recent edit to the Wicca page, and I can see why a change is needed, but I think that the idea that Cochrane depised "Wicca" is simply innacurate considering he was dead by the time it began to achieve more widespread usage, and considering how today it is far more commonly used to refer to the Neopagan Witchcraft religion in general - something the Clan of Tubal Cain, which I have a great interest in, was clearly a part of, no matter the protestations of some who declare it to be solely Luciferian or whatnot. Fuzzypeg, one of your recent edits was to remove a clarification needed tag, and you noted it wasn't discussed. That tag was added on 26 Nov 2008 by User:Dbachmann, and there didn't seem to be any discussion around that time in the article talk space. Hello Fuzzypeg! Someone named Midnightblueowl is making several pages that seem to be meant to be tributes to Andrew Chumbley, but instead are clutter. There's a stub that has the incorrect name of 'Sabbatic Witchcraft' and another redirect for Cultus Sabbati. Chumbley never called anything he did Sabbatic Witchcraft. The same guy made some changes on Chumbley's page which are un-referenced. You know what problems there have been there. I was going to nominate Sabbatic Witchcraft for deletion and hope the redirect for Cultus Sabbati would follow, but then was faced with the deletion page and the request that something else be done before the request for deletion is made. Can you help, please, by at least looking at the problem pages? Should something be done before nominating for deletion-especially cogent since the actual name of the article is incorrect?    It appears to me you are the principal contributor of the current content of the Pentagram of Venus section at Pentagram. I may get around to being concerned about some of the wording of that content, but i much more urgently hold -- even tho users of the Pentagram article should have access, in a Pentagram of Venus article i am about to create, to the content (probably including a direct link, and certainly via a dab page like Pentagram (disambiguation)) -- that

   it is an error for that content to appear on the Pentagram article beyond, say,

mention of P of V sharing some abstract mathematical properties (which also produce related visual characteristics) of the pentagram (geometry), even tho it is not an instance of the concept that would be easily accessible in detail to good-performance students of secondary-educational geometry.

   (BTW, it also occurs to me that astronomers and/or astrologers with an interest in geometry may have a term -- more general than "Pentagram of Venus" -- that distinguishes such curves-only geometric figures (see Spirograph) from the line-segments-only geometric figures.)
   While i'm moving "with all deliberate speed" toward that, i'd be quite surprised if we have trouble working out a mutually satisfactory approach to the matter.
