This page was created as an information page about our company, Dust Control Technology, using the Dow Corning page (already in existence) on Wikipedia as a template. I just went back and re-read that page and its content is no less self-promotional than ours. If we need to use References other than those created by ourselves, there have been a number of editorial articles written about our company and our equipment. If this is still not agreeable, then I question the reasoning our information page is not allowed, yet Dow Corning's is.

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

My apologies, I did not realize we cannot use our product name for a username. This was only done because that is the username/password combo we have used for certain accounts where multiple people may be making changes/updates. This was not done in an effort to offend or merely for self-promotion, it is just a way we can keep certain online accounts accessible to multiple people without having to worry about generating numerous username/password combinations. I will request a change in our username.

I responded to another administrator regarding the username. When I created the name and gave my initial response, I didn't realize the policy prohibited more than one user from using a login. That being said, I will ensure that each user has their own login. Secondly, I realize the article was viewed as "advertising" and was deleted. I've offered to rewrite the article but am not sure how our company info page differs from that of Dow Corning and Maui Jim (both pages were referenced as a template when writing ours). If you could offer some tips on how our page should be rewritten, I will do so as soon as it is undeleted. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Dustboss, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person, and which is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages: user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for businesses.

If you can indicate why the page is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{ hangon}} on the top of the page in question and leave a note on this page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Calton | Talk 02:11, 30 June 2009 (UTC) reply

This account, Dustboss, has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia, because your username does not meet our username policy.
This is often not a reflection on the user, and you are encouraged to choose a new account name which does meet our guidelines and are invited to contribute to Wikipedia under an appropriate username. If you feel this block was made in error, you may quickly and easily appeal it—see below.

Our username policy provides guidance on selecting your username. In brief, usernames should not be offensive, disruptive, promotional, misleading, or related to a 'real-world' group or organization. Also, usernames may not end with the string "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

If you have already made edits and wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name you may request a change in username. To do so, please follow these directions:

  1. Add {{ unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. This is possible because even when you are blocked, you can usually still edit your own talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note, you may only request a name that is not already in use. The account is created upon acceptance – do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change since we can far more easily allocate your new name to you, if it is not yet used. Usernames that have already been taken are listed here. For more information, please visit Wikipedia:Changing username.
  4. Alternatively, you can "abandon" the contributions under this username and create a new account, which is much faster and easier, especially if you have few or no edits.
Last, the automated software systems that prevent vandalism may have been activated, which can cause new account creation to be blocked also. If you have not acted in a deliberately inappropriate manner, please let us know if this happens, and we will deactivate the block as soon as possible. You may also appeal this username block by adding the text {{ unblock|Your reason here}} on your user talk page or emailing the administrator who blocked you. - Dank ( push to talk) 02:27, 30 June 2009 (UTC) reply

A further consideration; wikipedia does not accept group or shared accounts. Are you prepared to stipulate that this account, if unblocked and with a new username, will be used by one person only? -- Anthony.bradbury "talk" 15:08, 30 June 2009 (UTC) reply

Anthony, that will be fine. I will follow that stipulation, should you unblock my account. I do have a question also about the user page being deleted. I've found several other Wiki pages on companies which contain the same type of information — for example, Dow Corning and Maui Jim. Do I need to communicate with you about this issue? Or how do I appeal this? -- Dust Control Technology 18:57, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Responding to your email, I agree with what's been said above. Please see WP:WHYNOT. - Dank ( push to talk) 16:46, 6 July 2009 (UTC) reply
Responding to your next two emails, please register a new account that doesn't mention your company name, and either post your questions at the New contributors' help page or click on the bubble at the top of my talk page for chat-help. - Dank ( push to talk) 03:22, 8 July 2009 (UTC) reply
