That's excellent Daysleeper! Exactly what the AfD nominators had in mind I think. As long as you make sure to merge the other articles in with this one, it should be great! Very impressed, it's hard to take the AfD of an article you wrote, particularly about a fallen officer when other users point out that wikipedia is not a memorial, as with the law enforcement officers that can strike an unfortunate chord, however you have handled it better than other cases I have seen. Long Island got on CNN yesterday because of those teens beating up a young girl. That made me think about the story I am writing about three girls joining the FD for community services. Good character education in there. I'm not sure where to add in some of the knowledge I have about the fire service in the web page you maintain about FD. I posted one thing though. If the intent was to talk about the President's budget request, that's one thing. But the sentence referred to the budget as a whole by saying some programs were exempt. That is inaccurate. While the President has so far excluded the costs of the war in Iraq from his annual budget request, he does submit supplemental budgets to Congress to finance those items. Those are supplemenatary to, and therefore amend, the original budget. The President's budget request is entirely different from the federal budget itself. The costs of the war in Iraq are part of the federal budget whether or not the President includes them in his budget request. Once Congress appropriates the money, it is part of the federal budget.

If the intent of the sentence was to talk about the President's budget request, that's one thing. But the way it was worded made it inaccurate. The President can leave whatever he wants out of this budget request, but to say those programs are "exempt" is false. Nothing is exempt from the federal budget. It just depends on whether the request was made in the original budget or through an emergency supplemental. Either way, it's in the budget. (Emergency supplementals don't fall under federal budgetary caps or pay as you go restrictions, but that's a story more suitable for the article on the the federal budget process.)

How about this for a suggested rewrite:

The committee holds hearings on the President's annual budget request to Congress and drafts the annual Congressional Budget Resolution, which is used to guide congress as it develops annual federal spending bills. The committee also reviews supplemental budget requests submitted by the President, which cover items which for one reason or another were not included in the original budget request, usually for emergency spending. Recent emergency budget supplementals have been used to finance the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as for disaster revovery after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The committee may amend, approve, or table budget-related bills. It also has the power to enforce established federal budget rules, hold budget-related investigations, and subpoena witnesses. Additionally, the committee has oversight of the Congressional Budget Office.

Usually when I'm sandboxing it, I nowiki the whole article so it doesn't appear on categories and "what links here" pages, and just use the preview function to see what the posted article might look like. I don't know of any way to display a commons image when a en:wiki image exists with the same name. I was just trying to do it and couldn't get it to work. I see you replaced your image with Bobanny's picture. This will make its deletion faster. If an image on English Wikipedia is the same as an image on commons, the image on English Wikipedia can be deleted using this tag - {{subst:ncd}}. Jecowa 22:15, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi there, I really appreciate your enthusiasm for the above and it's obvious that you have professional experience in this field which is a big asset for the project... however I'm not a big fan of the rank structure or hierarchy imposed by you for the project. Having served as a full-time professional firefighter and officer in the LFB, and now writing for a living on UK fire service/emergency matters, I don't think having a title is suitable for me in this sense. Please would you remove it, and/or my name. I'm happy to contribute to the project but I find the title a little patronising and although I prefer to underplay my experience, suffice it to say it is vast in the emergency service world in the UK (and US to an extent) - I now work for a major UK broadcaster, but as I say on my user page - I'm about editing properly sourced facts and starting new articles in this field (from time-to-time). I hope that's ok with you we all approach Wikipedia in different ways.
