I have copied your article into the pretty box at the top of your talk page, just hit the sandbox link. You can work on it there without getting disturbed. It's certainly a lenghty article. Funnily enough I read one of your sources earlier when I was still trying to figure out who Captain Vielle was. He was certainly a pioneer. A couple of things just to keep you on your toes:-
- Is the article going to be a Biography that focuses on the 1692-94 period?
- Is this going to be entirely about the expedition with the french/native british/french background?
If you decide on one of those options you are ready to start "Wikifying" it.
- A short paragraph boiling down the article. Its ok to repeat whole sentences, so as to give the reader they have come to the right article.
- Seperate the different ideas into sections Background, Albany, Colonial Government, Political Tensions. With an article like this you have an endless choice.
- Time to Wikilink, and add your sources to the sentences and paragraphs.
I hope it is of help, I will give you a hand anytime you want (as long as I am at the computer), but please make sure you are going to take a definate path. At the moment it just looks like a short period of history that seems vague about what its goal is. Good luck Mike33 04:03, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
I am so very grateful for your assistance. And, you are right on target as the various approach to how one should do this treatment. I am not a proper writer for such things. Local historians do on occasion ask me about the legends I've researched to have local credence with proper documentation and the other kind, stories. I'll wish to include, as you suggest, add the upper Ohio River people he met in the "Sand Box". May I invite you to do the better writing on this article, please?
- What I'll do is write a short biography about Cpt A. C. Viele (a very interesting man (but no pocahontas)). can you wait a couple of days and we can have two brand new articles out of your research and what i found on Tuesday?

I don't know about composition, but, my son pointed out to me that this is simply html with mark-ups. Now maybe, copy and past of things I wrote in my more youthful days and family checking my grammer may be considered as "OK" by Wikipedians. My son attempted to explain the term "expand". I've read the "tips" and "comments" provided by Wikipedia and most days, I'm just plain "dumb". Easily with info overload on my state of being, I reminded my son that there are no less than three ways that could be meant by a term "expand." Does Wikipedia term simply mean create a new article because of too much detail in the present article and then link to a smaller form of the subject in the new article? Or, the present article's sub-section is vague and needs more clarification-- addition paragraphs? I understand, basically, when an outline or INDEX in a book becomes "clumsy". - You're a star :-) Wikipedia has a language of it own, carefully cut and pasted from the outer realms of the universe and considered more sacred than the Talmud/ Vulgate/ KJV. I wouldn't worry. What you have given Wikipedia is more than enough, now that we have formulated a couple of approaches to it; I will sit down on Sunday afternoon (glass of scotch by my side) and create something that looks like anything else on Wikipedia. Then you can start the important task of editing what I have done and on the understanding that two heads are better than one your original article can announce itself to the world.

- I fear you responded to an older message before my apology, which I thought you accepted. I don't want you to do what you are now doing. Too much valuable content is being lost to WP by your actions today.
- The people you have studied didn't give up so easily, and neither should you. A lot of us (like me) are neither young nor computer trained, but we have a lot to offer anyway. You are obviously anxious to only present work you feel good about. You have to let others help you polish your stuff to end up feeling that way, but WP educates many and is worth the hassle.
- I have a suggestion for you if you will compromise: If you concentrate your work in the History of West Virginia article, the best of it (including any help needed with WP related references and presentation) can be refined by collaboration, and we can add that content to the main WV article.

Skipper, the area that is being mentioned was purchased from the Lower Cherokee in 1696. It was settle by the plantationers by 1740s through 1750s. The incident being reported happened in 1752, as I understand the authors foot notes. The following quote is from pages 52 and 53:

"... tho' the upper and middle Cherokees interested themselves greatly in our Favour; those Lower Cherokees conceiving a Contempt of our People, some of them were induced at last, to go privately into the settlements along with the Savanoes and Nottowegas, who with the Tawes, Nantouyas, and other French Indians (with a view to create a Difference between us and the Cherokees) made a Practice Year after Year of killing and carrying away through the Cherokee Nations, not only our Settlement Indians, but half breed Slaves, Mulattoes, and Mustees; and killed several white People; and even went in quest of Colonel Pawley, and Capt. Fairchild who had attended him as Agent..."

Skipper, the name of the settlement town of this region was called Keowee Town of the Central Carolinas. Carolina history has the Spainish coming through this region, but the French began plantationing it before the British took control of it. This was a British document, "The Edmond Atkin Report Of 1755" by Edmond Atkin, Imperial Indian Superintendent, a member of the South Carolinas Governors Council and a merchant with long experience in the Indian Trade. Thankyou, you figured right, Sir. This is the kind of "ref-source" who's theories and fact findings that's needed. This will likely help prove or disprove our old local tellings concerning the Guyandotte's arrival here. For example, the historical record from middle eighteenth century has "Kiskemoneto" village across the Ohio River in our adjoining county in the state of Ohio is a mixed vilage of the "Huron". These, here, either migrated down the Scioto Valley or the Muskingum Valley or down the Ohio River, several theories about it. Also, you good people's work might shed better light on the archaic "Brewerton" points in our Northern Panhandle, maybe. With the first of what I hope will be monthly newsletters I again want to welcome you to the project and hope that as we all work together through the year we can expand the project, create missing articles and generally improve the pedia thought mutual cooperation and support. Hello again Conaughy, It's been a long time since we've "spoken"; I hope you are well. I agree with Uyvsdi's edit summary comment when he restored your material. There is no need to strip out whole sections containing references; I think I can guess how much time you spent putting those together. Unless someone has a specific difficulty with allowing particular references to be included, I think they should stand. If people do have a problem in particular cases, then I think you have a right to know about them, as the editor who contributed them. In my opinion, the same is true with other difficulties that editors might have with your articles in general. I think it's reasonable that you should be given specific pointers towards how an article can be improved by the editors who believe it can be improved upon. 99% of articles have "problems" (if you look hard enough); don't worry about criticism, it goes with the territory for those who dare to actually create articles and then work on them through consensus. Hang in there Conaughy. I'm going to take the liberty of restoring any block material that was removed earlier, so that other editors have the opportunity to review it in its "original context". I had a couple of Lit Majors read over the text. An English teacher said it is not poetic art. It's only typical of papers found in that field of study. The terms are not friendly for younger school children to read who never heard archaelogists speaking nor lectures. I'm not much of a common level encyclopedia writer. I have copied your article into the pretty box at the top of your talk page, just hit the sandbox link. You can work on it there without getting disturbed. It's certainly a lenghty article. Funnily enough I read one of your sources earlier when I was still trying to figure out who Captain Vielle was. He was certainly a pioneer. A couple of things just to keep you on your toes:-
- Is the article going to be a Biography that focuses on the 1692-94 period?
- Is this going to be entirely about the expedition with the french/native british/french background?
If you decide on one of those options you are ready to start "Wikifying" it.
- A short paragraph boiling down the article. Its ok to repeat whole sentences, so as to give the reader they have come to the right article.
- Seperate the different ideas into sections Background, Albany, Colonial Government, Political Tensions. With an article like this you have an endless choice.
- Time to Wikilink, and add your sources to the sentences and paragraphs.
I hope it is of help, I will give you a hand anytime you want (as long as I am at the computer), but please make sure you are going to take a definate path. At the moment it just looks like a short period of history that seems vague about what its goal is. Good luck Mike33 04:03, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Local historians do on occasion ask me about the legends I've researched to have local credence with proper documentation and the other kind, stories. I'll wish to include, as you suggest, add the upper Ohio River people he met in the "Sand Box". May I invite you to do the better writing on this article, please?

I don't know about composition, but, my son pointed out to me that this is simply html with mark-ups. Now maybe, copy and past of things I wrote in my more youthful days and family checking my grammer may be considered as "OK" by Wikipedians. My son attempted to explain the term "expand". I've read the "tips" and "comments" provided by Wikipedia and most days, I'm just plain "dumb". Easily with info overload on my state of being, I reminded my son that there are no less than three ways that could be meant by a term "expand." Does Wikipedia term simply mean create a new article because of too much detail in the present article and then link to a smaller form of the subject in the new article? Or, the present article's sub-section is vague and needs more clarification-- addition paragraphs? I understand, basically, when an outline or INDEX in a book becomes "clumsy". - You're a star :-) Wikipedia has a language of it own, carefully cut and pasted from the outer realms of the universe and considered more sacred than the Talmud/ Vulgate/ KJV. I wouldn't worry. What you have given Wikipedia is more than enough, now that we have formulated a couple of approaches to it; I will sit down on Sunday afternoon (glass of scotch by my side) and create something that looks like anything else on Wikipedia. Then you can start the important task of editing what I have done and on the understanding that two heads are better than one your original article can announce itself to the world.

- The people you have studied didn't give up so easily, and neither should you. A lot of us (like me) are neither young nor computer trained, but we have a lot to offer anyway. You are obviously anxious to only present work you feel good about. You have to let others help you polish your stuff to end up feeling that way, but WP educates many and is worth the hassle.
- I have a suggestion for you if you will compromise: If you concentrate your work in the History of West Virginia article, the best of it (including any help needed with WP related references and presentation) can be refined by collaboration, and we can add that content to the main WV article.

The standard article size is generally 32 KB. May I suggest you that you split the information into multiple article. It will help you both in article count and to maintain the articles. Skipper, the area that is being mentioned was purchased from the Lower Cherokee in 1696. It was settle by the plantationers by 1740s through 1750s. The incident being reported happened in 1752, as I understand the authors foot notes. The following quote is from pages 52 and 53:

"... tho' the upper and middle Cherokees interested themselves greatly in our Favour; those Lower Cherokees conceiving a Contempt of our People, some of them were induced at last, to go privately into the settlements along with the Savanoes and Nottowegas, who with the Tawes, Nantouyas, and other French Indians (with a view to create a Difference between us and the Cherokees) made a Practice Year after Year of killing and carrying away through the Cherokee Nations, not only our Settlement Indians, but half breed Slaves, Mulattoes, and Mustees; and killed several white People; and even went in quest of Colonel Pawley, and Capt. Fairchild who had attended him as Agent..."

Skipper, the name of the settlement town of this region was called Keowee Town of the Central Carolinas. Carolina history has the Spainish coming through this region, but the French began plantationing it before the British took control of it. This was a British document, "The Edmond Atkin Report Of 1755" by Edmond Atkin, Imperial Indian Superintendent, a member of the South Carolinas Governors Council and a merchant with long experience in the Indian Trade. This will likely help prove or disprove our old local tellings concerning the Guyandotte's arrival here. For example, the historical record from middle eighteenth century has "Kiskemoneto" village across the Ohio River in our adjoining county in the state of Ohio is a mixed vilage of the "Huron". These, here, either migrated down the Scioto Valley or the Muskingum Valley or down the Ohio River, several theories about it. Also, you good people's work might shed better light on the archaic "Brewerton" points in our Northern Panhandle, maybe. Hello again Conaughy, It's been a long time since we've "spoken"; I hope you are well. I agree with Uyvsdi's edit summary comment when he restored your material. There is no need to strip out whole sections containing references; I think I can guess how much time you spent putting those together. Unless someone has a specific difficulty with allowing particular references to be included, I think they should stand. If people do have a problem in particular cases, then I think you have a right to know about them, as the editor who contributed them. In my opinion, the same is true with other difficulties that editors might have with your articles in general. I think it's reasonable that you should be given specific pointers towards how an article can be improved by the editors who believe it can be improved upon. 99% of articles have "problems" (if you look hard enough); don't worry about criticism, it goes with the territory for those who dare to actually create articles and then work on them through consensus. Hang in there Conaughy. I'm going to take the liberty of restoring any block material that was removed earlier, so that other editors have the opportunity to review it in its "original context". I had a couple of Lit Majors read over the text. An English teacher said it is not poetic art. It's only typical of papers found in that field of study. The terms are not friendly for younger school children to read who never heard archaelogists speaking nor lectures. I'm not much of a common level encyclopedia writer.
