Blocked

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will probably not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{ unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{ unblock|Your reason here}} below but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Request reason:

this username was made for a group of MSW students from FIU. Our professor gave us a task to update a community for our group project. Our community is Miami Gardens. We are in no way of "publicity and/or promotional purposes". In addition, we made the Mayor of Miami gardens wikipedia page to help add more to our project "Oliver Gilbert III". Please, unblock us for we can continue our project. Once again, we are added facts and unbiased data.

Decline reason:

The username is intrisically promotional, whatever you actually write. Furthermore, wikipedia accounts are created for individuals to use, and group editing of an account is not allowed. -- Anthony Bradbury "talk" 19:43, 27 October 2012 (UTC) reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{ unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I was going to say the same as AB did above but got interrupted. I'm not sure what you mean by "update a community". If your professor meant create a Wikipedia page, then you have to find a subject that is notable, and I'm afraid Mr Gilbert doesn't fit out bill unless you can show him to be notable under WP:BIO or WP:POLITICIAN. Town mayors aren't usually notable by virtue of their position - unless they're the mayors of places like London or New York. We do try to help students, but the students have to help themselves. First thing you can do is for some to try to find better references and something of notability for Mr Gilbert and ask for advice. Read WP:RS - your refs weren't good under that policy. The others try to find a notable subject - see WP:GNG and don't forget to find the RS. Then ask for advice. If the worst comes to the worst, you can ask for a copy of the article to be mailed to you to show to your professor. Peridon ( talk) 20:17, 27 October 2012 (UTC) reply

Request reason:

I should add more information about "update community". My community and organization course gave me and my group the task to update the community of our choice on Wikipedia. We are to update the pictures, in formation, or any other facts about Miami Gardens. We have no intentions to be promotional. I am sorry that i chose them username and willing to change it. Also, I understand only one user for this account, and I informed my groupmates to send me all the images pertaining to school, town hall, and other government building of Miami Gardens. Once again, my school project was to update Miami Garden's wiki page to more up to date facts.

Decline reason:

To request an unblock, follow the instructions in the block notice beginning with "To that end, please do the following", including, as Beeblebrox has pointed out below, suggesting a new username for yourself only to use. That username must not be the name of a group, organisation, "community", or any other collection of more than one person. JamesBWatson ( talk) 21:10, 28 October 2012 (UTC) reply

If this is a part of a course, then your professor should have consulted School and University Wikipedia Projects before proceeding. You are correct that this specific username cannot be unblocked as it fails the username policy as it appears to match an organization. ( ✉→ BWilkins ←✎) 09:12, 28 October 2012 (UTC) reply

I am blocked to ever create a username following username policy forever? I live in a dorm at the university; therefore, I am going to be blamed for my mistake.

No, but you have yet to indicate what other username you would select if unblocked, that would help. Beeblebrox ( talk) 17:28, 28 October 2012 (UTC) reply
