Welcome!

Hello, Anna Sai, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Draft:Marco Alverà, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. draft of Marco Alverà bio

Hello Anna Sai! Thank you for requesting my opinion on your draft. I agree with DutchTreat's advice in the Welcome section above, in addition to which I suggest you consider the following:

1. You have not convinced me that Mr. Alverà's biography would be of interest to a general reader. This draft reads like a curriculum vitae, as it is simply a chronological list of the steps in his advancement to his current position as CEO of Snam. Being the CEO of a major corporation is not in itself grounds for inclusion in Wikipedia. Has he invented or implemented any innovations in his field? Founded any projects or initiatives outside his field? Even involvement in a newsworthy controversy can flesh out a biography and provide broader interest.

2. It would be a good idea for you to read the Wikipedia help article on Notability. This will show you the criteria that Wikipedia uses to determine whether an individual merits inclusion in this encyclopedia.

I hope you can find additional information about Mr. Alverà's accomplishments that will make this biography both more interesting and more consistent with Wikipedia's criteria for notability. All best wishes! Ailemadrah ( talk) 18:35, 6 October 2017 (UTC) reply

Hello again! Thanks for your follow-up message. I think you're on the right track by having first looked at the section for Italian chief executives. Do note how many of these individuals also have accomplishments beyond their business successes, like writing books, having a role in politics, or being philanthropists, so again I urge you to look for anything similar in Mr. Alverà's career. In addition, I strongly urge you to reach out to other editors with more experience than I have. A list of editors willing to assist new Wikipedians can be found here. The more input you receive, the better your article will be. Regarding whether it's best to publish the article now as a stub or wait until you've fleshed it out more, that's one of the questions I don't feel competent to answer. It has always seemed to me that stubs do not automatically attract the attention of other editors, which is why I am urging you to be more pro-active in requesting assistance. All best wishes Ailemadrah ( talk) 16:47, 10 October 2017 (UTC) reply

I agree with points about about the article written like a CV and Notability. I'll add my WP:NPOV concern. Fortunately, the article passes many of the tests from Wikipedia:Who is a low-profile individual, so to me it's clear the subject is a public figure. Conversations about Marco Alverà's biography

Hi everyone,

around two weeks ago I created a draft containing the bio of Marco Alverà, CEO of Snam (the revision history can be found here), after having read comparable biographies ( here), collected all information regarding his experience, looked for authoritative sources and released his image in Creative Commons. Since I asked for advice from a number of editors, I thought it would be useful to gather all our conversations, including my answers, on this page. Among the editors I wrote to (and received guidance from) were: @ Ailemadrah, DutchTreat, Matthew hk, and TonyTheTiger:

  • Ailemadrah ( here and here) suggested to ask for more input for the entry’s sake and find some additional information that would make the subject more notable such as “business successes”, books published or political roles and philanthropic activities carried out (which are however less common in chief executives’ profiles). I was thinking that, for the “business success” part, as also reported in the draft, we could take into consideration the following input:
    • Marco Alverà is the first President of GasNaturally, the partnership representing the European gas industry, since June 2017” and
    • On Oct 4 2017 Marco Alverà delivered a TedTalk on “Fairness” at TED@BCG event in Milan” (which refers to his thought leadership)

In addition, as indicated in the draft, he co-authored a book published in 2004.

Furthermore, there are currently a number of biographies already published and linked in the category “Italian chief executives”] that are not fully complete and missing even the most basic requirements such as relevant sources to back up the content. Only about half are at a more advanced stage compared to Marco Alverà’s bio draft.

  • Ailemadrah also added ( here) that ”Fortunately, the article passes many of the tests from Wikipedia:Who is a low-profile individual, so to me it's clear the subject is a public figure”.
  • DutchTreat ( here), wrote that the draft “looks in line with expectations”. He added, however, that I should be extra-cautious as I am connected with the company in which Alverà is CEO. As a matter of fact, I disclosed my identity within my profile and I felt safe creating a draft that would have been evaluated by others before being published officially. He also contributed with these two edits ( 1, 2).
  • Matthew_hk ( here) wrote that he is “not quite familiar with the specific guideline of businesspeople” and that however in his view the bio may be improved in order to ensure the notability.
  • Finally, TonyTheTiger ( here) wrote that the bio “seems to be in good shape”.

If you agree, we could continue discussing the matter within this page in the next few days, so as to have all stances and related advice clearly gathered in one place. We can decide here either on how to further improve the entry or whether it is best to publish it as is.

Thanks in advance for your precious help :)

  1. If you have COI, you should not create it at all
  2. i said you have to show GNG of the person, not writing a CV. Matthew_hk t c 14:18, 16 October 2017 (UTC) reply
I really appreciate that @ Anna Sai: continues to keep all of us associated editors informed of process followed to gain consensus for this article. Instead of rushing to publish, we have been able to take time to review and discuss. Thank you!
My concern about COI is specially focused on the editor's COI statement: "In the interest of optimal transparency, I do not intend to edit the entries directly, except to update outdated numbers, names, or facts and figures." The actions of creating a draft article, then seeking to get it published on tha main namespace are not in alignment. Creating an article and saying "do not intend to edit entries directly" are not consistent with that statement. However, I do like to promote and support new editors so that they can be productive contributors, so don't want to make editing too difficult to prevent good work. Thus feel my extra effort to help are important to get quality work done.
The quote attributed to Ailemadrah about "public figure" was may by me, DutchTreat
I have a few more edits in mind before we move into mainspace. Please give me more time. DutchTreat ( talk) 09:54, 18 October 2017 (UTC) reply
@ DutchTreat:Thank you for your interest in the discussion and for your help in refining the article. Please do accept my apology for the misattribution of the quote! I do confirm that my wiki-actions are intended to be carried out in total transparency. As I wrote I do not intend to edit entries directly and I felt safe creating a draft for an entry that was missing from the mainspace and that would have been duly evaluated by others.
Thank you, again, for all your support. Anna Sai ( talk) 13:52, 18 October 2017 (UTC) reply
