Hi Adavidb, I see you undid my removal of the uncited sentence about "merboys" in Merman. I don't like to disagree, but am not convinced the entry is justified, for the following reasons.

Firstly, the entry in the article's lead is, I suspect, WP:UNDUE; it certainly was when I removed it, as the topic was not discussed, nor cited, in the body of the article. I see you have found it in Wiktionary, which is perhaps better than nothing, but that does not prove it isn't a neologism (indeed, the recent date there rather suggests it is such).

Secondly, since anyone can edit Wiktionary, a link there is not proof of notability.

I'd suggest that if the term is to be kept, that it be moved from the lead to the body of the article, and supported by a citation from a reliable source. It could be argued that since it is a different term (like Mermaid) it does not in any case belong in this particular article, but that can perhaps be overlooked if it's adequately sourced.

My initial thought was, "Why such a concern over the word 'merboy'?" Wiktionary was an ready dictionary, and I considered the link useful, so added it per WP:SIS. On further checking, I see that "merboy" is not so formally used or justified after all; I have no remaining qualms with its removal from the Merman article. — ADavidB 10:59, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

You reverted an edit by me on the grounds that it has not been explained. Your "years later" edit summary was not clear to me by itself, and Politico is not a blog, nor were the quoted statements made by bloggers. The source article in question, quite critical of Giuliani in 2009, acknowledged that he "became known across the world simply by his first name ... a global icon known as 'America's Mayor'" in public reaction to 9/11. As explained in my subsequent edit, I agreed to leave it out after your undo and explanation, though still don't agree with your stated reasoning. — ADavidB 17:04, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi, under the following rationale:

1. that the term apoplexy in Warren G. Harding is very important to understand the sentence (I think not a lot of people is familiar with the term),
2. the term it's not mentioned anywhere else in the whole article, and
3. that the recommendation is "as much as possible, avoid linking from within quotes"

You're welcome. It took a while for me to figure out these large wiki tables, and it still requires a lot of concentration. The main thing is that a blank value needs to be specified for all rows that don't have a name, which can be repeated with a "rowspan" to make it easier. Hey Adavidb

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Zero commas would be best. My BrE habit is to close a parenthesis: Month Day, Year, but no commas needed with Day Month Year, and that's the logical order too. Rothorpe ( talk) 10:49, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
