{{ help me}} Please :) I can't work out how to add citation and ref links correctly, any help appreciated! Thank you! Zephfya ( talk) 02:37, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Use the " ref" template and add the "
<references/>
" tag at the end of the page for the reference to be listed.See this example:
Google has a Firefox page. <ref>[http://www.google.com/firefox firefox page] at [[Google]]</ref> <references/>
And its implementation:
Google has a Firefox page. [1]
- ^ firefox page at Google
Thank you for that! I've done the online sources no problem now thanks to you, how do I format that for references from a printed book please?
Use the "citebook" template (you can read about it here). The source code could look like this:
In 1999, David Mumfold's Math lectures were published.<ref>{{cite book |last = Mumford |first = David |authorlink = David Mumford |title = The Red Book of Varieties and Schemes |publisher = [[Springer-Verlag]] |series = Lecture notes in mathematics 1358 |year = 1999 |doi = 10.1007/b62130 |isbn = 354063293X}}</ref> <references/>
In a working mode:
In 1999, David Mumfold's Math lectures were published. [1]
- ^ Mumford, David (1999). The Red Book of Varieties and Schemes. Lecture notes in mathematics 1358. Springer-Verlag. doi: 10.1007/b62130. ISBN 354063293X.
When answering a message at a talk page, write ":" or "*" before each line to indent it accordingly:

Hi Zephfya. I'm replying from the helpme you left on the above page. I see you've already gotten advice from Q0k and it's very similar to what I would have said. So, since that still left you undsure of how to do it, let me try breaking it down into hopefully simpler bites.
Anything you place between ref tags (<ref>text</ref>) in an article formats as a footnote when you save wherever you place the template {{ Reflist}}. You place the ref tags in the text, but they only appear there when you're looking behind the curtain, at the code in the article while editing. When you are reading the article in normal mode, the citations between ref tags you placed in the text appears in the references section at the end. There are citation templates which can help with formatting, such as {{ cite book}}. These go in between the ref tags and make citing easier and more consistent to place. See here for a visual explanation of all this which might help.
So, if this was a sentences in an article that you wanted to place an inline citation to a book at the end, you'd type right here, just after this colon with no space:
<ref>{{cite book |last = Doe |first = John |title = Title of Book |publisher = Doe Publishing |location = Chicago |url = http:///www.book.com |edition = 3rd |year = 2009 |isbn = 0-000-000-0000 |accessdate=November 15, 2009}}</ref>
==References==
({Reflist}}
The above is what it would look like when you were in edit mode. However, when you saved this and looked at it in read mode, what you'd see is this:
So, if this was a sentences in an article that you wanted to place an inline citation to a book at the end, you'd type right here, just after this colon with no space: [1]

Hi again Zephfya. I have reformatted all of the references you placed and I thought I'd describe a few issues since you are planning on sourcing other articles. You should provide full attribution, which includes, where available, author's name, publisher, date of publication and date you accessed the source. For example, for the Variety reference, the publisher is Variety. The author is Dave McNary, as listed on the Variety site, where the date of publication is also listed. Also, the title of the piece is whatever it is entitled at the external source (not "link" or "review"). So the full reference is:
<ref name=Variety.com>{{cite web |first=Dave|last=McNary|title=DiBonaventura sets up 'Secret' Company to produce 'Nicholas Flamel' series |url=http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118011546.html?categoryid=13&cs=1|date=November 18, 2009|publisher=Variety|accessdate=November 22, 2009}}</ref>
The order the parameters are placed is irrelevant by the way. In other words, you can place |accessdate=
first, and |title=
last, or any other order, and it does not impact on how the reference formats. Cheers.--

I am shortly, or already have, assessed several pages for books in this series. I noticed on the talk pages you'd asked for assessment. That notice did not draw attention at our project page. As you continue to update the pages if you would like reassessment please feel free to make a request at our requesting assessment page. There are a couple of us who are active at the moment in assessing pages.
As I assess the pages I notice that some of the content is similar from page to page, including information about the video games and film. Information on a specific page should be about that specific book. So, for instance, since there only seems to be one film in the works, at least from what I can gleam from the info presented, it should just be on the page for The Alchemist and the series pages. You are clearly passionate about the series and I wish you the best of luck as you continue to edit and improve the pages. Your truly, Barkeep49 ( talk) 23:48, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

(I'd be willing to do a phone call, instant messaging, or whatever way you would best prefer to do it.) I'm hoping that as a result of having a few of these conversations with people, I'll better understand how users in general get involved, how the adoptee / adopter pairings work out, and so on. Let me know. Thanks! SeparateWays ( talk) 19:40, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
