Bengali revolutionaries

Hi BL, hope you are well. If you consider the term "freedom fighter" as pov, then in the same manner, the word "militant" (an euphemism for a "terrorist" per the wikipedia article) is also POV here. So, I've tweaked the lead sentences in these biographies to simply say "Bengali revolutionary". I think this is neutral enough for everyone. :) Cheers!! -- Ragib ( talk) 03:22, 13 January 2010 (UTC) reply

Ganguly

Well, I thought you would just trawl through the Cricinfo related articles list. They have a "best selection" of longer pieces on him. The Rahul Bhattacharya one in early 2006 about his clash with Ganguly was good I thought. I guess if you wanted to look for problems with the short ball, there was a fuss about it in 2003-04. For his bad running or seomthing, probably find an infamous run out and there might be a piece on cricinfo on that date about his horrendous running. I remember a mixup in the first BG Test in 2001 in Mumbai and another horrible one in Bangalore in 2004. Bad fielding, maybe just google fielding adn Ganguly there must be heaps of articles slating him. For his off side shots a google on Dravid's famous quote might tral up heaps YellowMonkey ( bananabucket) 03:52, 15 January 2010 (UTC) reply

Hi YellowMonkey, as I'm re-nominating the article The Naked Brothers Band: The Movie for WP:FAC; I noticed that everything looks good, except the Casting section needs a copyedit and then it should look perfect. Thanx! ATC . Talk 22:36, 11 January 2010 (UTC) reply

Hi YellowMonkey! Would you have a moment to have a look at the FAC for The Naked Brothers Band: The Movie? Tony has called for a "group effort" to improve the prose. I've been helping ATC, but seem to have lost perspective on this article and a fresh set of eyes would be welcome. Thanks in advance. Truthkeeper88 ( talk) 03:38, 12 January 2010 (UTC) reply

Yes, for some reason, when I copyedit other people's articles they never seem to pass FAC but my own copyedits on my own articles seem to work. I don't think I am not concentrating when I ce other people's stuff, maybe I should restructure the prose instead of just changing sentence by sentence, or maybe it's indicative of the fact that people judge reputation, although I don't think I was ever regarded as a stylish prose person, and rightly so. I'll change some stuff nevertheless YellowMonkey ( bananabucket) 01:01, 13 January 2010 (UTC) reply
I think it's hard to get into another person's article and completely restructure, though sometimes that's what's needed. The sentence by sentence stuff is isn't always enough. With ATC's work I seem to have trouble getting the structure right in my brain (or I want to change the structure) but with my own stuff, or with a complete rewrite, I know how to structure and the sentence by sentence stuff takes care of itself. Also, reputation is helpful! Anyway, thanks. ATC has worked hard and deserves the help. Truthkeeper88 ( talk) 01:15, 13 January 2010 (UTC) reply
I know, I get the same way with other people's articles too. Thanx and I appreciate both of your hard work so far! Also, YellowMonkey, a sentence you wrote: Nat, who considers the scene embarrassing, rolls his eyes and tells his mother to no avail that he does not want to be included in the music video. It doesn't make sense with the phrase "and tells his mother no avail that he does not wanted to be included in the music video." Is there a way you can fix the whole "no avail that he" phrase, which sounds a little awkward. Thanx again! ATC . Talk 17:47, 13 January 2010 (UTC) reply

Nagaruban Arumugam

Could you please explain why the page on Dr. Nagaruban Arumugam was deleted? There are pages on self-serving celebrities, actors who acted in one movie and cricketers who played in a few 20-20 matched etc. Why can't there be a page on a doctor, whose service deserved a mention in the Australian Parliament and in the editorial of the Daily Telegraph etc, have his life documented (with clear references) on Wiki. There was a discussion when it was marked for speedy deletion with the majority approving it to be kept. I would really appreciate if you could explain or restore the page. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 6billionth sapien ( talkcontribs) 07:33, 19 January 2010 (UTC) reply

Not going to be tricked by you and the other sockpuppets on your AfD. If you want you can start a WP:DRV. This doctor didn't have any notable philanthropic medical achievements, or renown as a researcher or skillful surgeon. He got a few mentions because he was popular in the community and was cut down in a tragic car accident. Being mentioned in parliament or newspapers is not sufficient for being notable. A person can do well in a high school competition and they will get in the papers and the local member of parliament will congratulate them, the same for a local ethnic club or cleric who opens a new temple or builds a new shed. The politicians have to get votes and there is always a portion of time every day where each of them can make a 30 second comment praising someone or other or the local school sports team to get votes. There was no formal vote to pass a bill or anything. YellowMonkey ( bananabucket) 08:47, 19 January 2010 (UTC) reply

Thank you for your guidance. My intention was not to 'trick' you. I have created a DRV. Hope to see the page back. I an interested to see what the others think. I sincerely believe a page for this doctor is within the requirements of Wiki and has enough references to support it (relative to many other biographies). 6billionth sapien ( talk) 10:32, 19 January 2010 (UTC) reply

  • I'm not entirely sure I know what else you want added to the articles. To read into, or even to select particular viewpoints on, the "why" of someone winning is a very touchy subject butting up against WP:OR. I've listed some mainstream views of various people who got praise for the win in the Aftermath section, but in the individual games the only reference'able events are the individual plays. To that end I've cited every run scoring play, defensive/pitching sub, etc to clearly show the key events in these games. As for stats, I wouldn't mind too much, but the overuse of statistics has been an ongoing problem for MLB articles. Staxringold talk contribs 06:16, 21 January 2010 (UTC) reply

Young Australians

Was that basically the same as Australia A? Aaroncrick ( talk) 06:50, 17 January 2010 (UTC) reply

I remember in the Harte and Whimpress book that it is called the "curiously named" as some rather old players were in it. Still, looking at the 1995 lot, it seems like they were the Second XI at the time, compare it to the ones who play in the Australian XI matches ahead of the Australian home Tests. Just popped in from the Tour Down Under. The photos turned out better this time, since the team presentation was at 2pm instead of 5pm. Last year that meant that the low sun went straight into the marquee and it meant that there was massive glare off their lycra suits, but the faces were much darker because the shade was covering it. I've tried to leave out of unnecessary detail but the Australian debut sub-section has grown substantially. At least information will not be left out like with Gilchrist ... Aaroncrick ( talk) 21:53, 17 January 2010 (UTC) reply

Did you see how Tendulkar hit it straight in the air and the ball ended up bouncing near the non-strikers stumps! Three fielders stood and the bowler stood and looked at each other! Horrible batting from India ... Sehwag fired 'em up? Aaroncrick ( talk) 05:12, 18 January 2010 (UTC) reply

I read it on the text but haven't looked it up on youtube yet. I wonder if India decided against Ojha in the last few ODIs against Bangladesh because they have lots of leftie spinners and might be used to it. Bangladesh have usually done ok with the bat against India because the bowlers are slow and in Bangladesh they have no fast bowlers to practice against. A random speed attack could freak out a few of the batsman, I think, especially as a lot of them are rather excitable in their shot selection. Maybe they should have just hauled in Warnie's protege Kamran Khan for some slinging. Pathan and Z Khan also have very good records against Bangladesh because of hte inswing, maybe an all-swing attack? I think maybe more like Sehwag's relaxed personality put his batsmen to sleep.... YellowMonkey ( bananabucket) 05:31, 18 January 2010 (UTC) reply
Tendulkar got his century! :) Some Yousuf like tactics used by Shakib, however. Wonder how Ashraful will go without the captaincy? You make some good points, and I really think they can win if Iqbal, Shakib and Ashraful keep their heads down. I think Nafees is playing, so that will be interesting. I remember him smacking Warnie around for a century in 2006, so he can play. Aaroncrick ( talk) 05:39, 18 January 2010 (UTC) reply
Tendulkar playing for red ink again but the media will focus on his "amazing" innings. Letting Sreesanth face Shakib isn't a good idea when he's just starting. It might've been better with younger batsmen who were eager to impress, especially ones like Mukund, Pujara, Rahane etc who like to make big centuries and probably wouldn't get bored no matter how bad the bowling is. Thing is Sehwag will play the same way in the second innings. Indian batsmen never play well with the tail unlike Hussey or Gilchrist. Or will fog save India? Still I don't think wins by Bangladesh will necessarily mean anything long-term as their opponents are usually at least privately contemptful of them, and don't prepare properly, although only Symonds made it explicitly obvious in 2005 and 2008. But even then the other teams never get angry much when playing them, I can't remember any opposition player getting a heavy fine or ban for an altercation against a Bangladeshi player; whereas the likes of Watson and McGrath always get angry when an opponent tries to lash them, no bowler hardly seems to care when a Bangladeshi player does a flail. In the last ODI, Ashraful went for a premeditated flail, edged for four, did it again next ball, out. But if Bangladesh start playing better, the other teams will start preparing better; Australia were very lacklustre in the 2008 Darwin series, especially the batsman, but luckily for Clarke, Bangladesh just mess up against any old 140+ bowling. They terminated his contract early because he would be mostly unavailable anyway and he takes up a spot in the squad. So they might have paid him some partial salary, or maybe his full salary if they couldn't be bothered negotiating, as $400,000 or whatever it is is peanuts anyway and termination fees aren't counted in the salary cap. India just scraped through with a 1 run lead! I never thought a game with Bangladesh would be like this! Now, they'll probably wait till lunch on day 5 to declare, so that SRT can score a double. - Spaceman Spiff 09:13, 19 January 2010 (UTC) reply
How many overs were left when India took the light. I think they should have just continued biffing the bowlers. If things got a bit hairy then they should just block, but they could have demoralised Bangladesh if they took the macho option and continued pummeling em. Is it just me or the Indian cordon a bit slow to bend down. So many edges just roll past without the odd one being cut off. And Mishra at gully? Thumbs down. As for the #1, I think Ishant dropping the second-last wicket against NZ probably cost more as they then survived for another 20 minutes instead of Martin and the rain came. Still, these silly administrators are scheduling all these matches in the north at this time of year is just silly, eg the 2008 Mohali Test, or the 2006 January Tests in Pak, some were in the north, and there was morning fog and early sunset every day. They should just schedule all day matches at this time in Chennai, Bangalore, or give some Tests to Hyderabad and Cochin. India should've smacked Bangladesh out for 150, and then gone to 1 or 2/180 by stumps, but they didn't. Sehwag not cashing in on the minnows again.... Even if he slows down and goes defensive, he's still faster than the next few, so he should've..... Even if he only hit singles he could score faster than some of the three oldies who don't bother. Federer

The playing career of Roger Federer has been split into Roger Federer career biography, while the rest in still in Roger Federer. Interesting .... It's silly at the moment as it presents Federer's career as being a 1-1 struggle against Nadal and Hewitt, without describing how his life progressed, and is also undue weight, as the ads are as big as the Nadal section and infinitely bigger (multiplicatively speaking) than his general career. It was better in the old days without all these automatic electronics, a bit like those batting aids. There were four guys at teh front and they all wobbled each lap and there were 1-2 passes back and forth each lap. I wonder if Tomic will ever get anywhere or there'll just be fights. I hope he isn't worse than Underwood! I just rearranged it to remove repeats, itaclise newspapers, add clarifiers to explain who a person is, removed repeated linking and use of full names over and over.

I hope he isn't worse than Underwood! It may take me a few days or more to go through these as I am on holidays and internet access is sporadic (coincidentally I am actually visiting Australia for the first time in several years), but I will mark up edits when I have some time. Thanks and kind regards-- Calabraxthis (talk) 10:45, 20 January 2010 (UTC) reply

Hi, I've added more or less nothing except a sentence in the 5th day and another about Sreesanth and Symonds having incidents in India. I just rearranged it to remove repeats, itaclise newspapers, add clarifiers to explain who a person is, removed repeated linking and use of full names over and over.
