Edward Drake

Hi James. I've reverted your changes to the article Edward Drake. For one thing, you can't just overwrite an article about an Olympic skier to make room for your biography. Such conflicts should be handled using disambiguation. But in this case, I don't think an article on Edward Drake the director is even warranted as he fails the criteria for inclusion of biographies on Wikipedia. Most of the content you added is unverifiable and the fact that you have access to this info probably means that you are too close to the subject to be writing the article anyways. Dear PichPich,

Please check the sources listed and the terms warranting a bibliography. I am unsure as to your fascination on the subject too. I have little to do with Drake other than handle the media and publicity side of a small production comapny in Melbourne. A simple Google search should educate you a bit more. I shall create a disambiguation for the skiier in question who has retired. I do not believe his contribution to the world of sports really warrants a one sentence article.

All the best,

- J

Please stop. Skier Edward Drake participated in the Olympic games and that article will never be deleted. This is one of the first criteria listed at Wikipedia:Notability (sports). As for Edward Drake the filmmaker, let me reiterate that you should not be writing his biography since you are in a conflict of interest. Moreover, the criteria of WP:BIO are pretty unambiguous: we're looking for multiple instances of significant coverage about Edward Drake himself, not bits and pieces of information about him that can be gleaned from articles that mention his name. Pichpich ( talk) 12:50, 21 February 2012 (UTC) reply
I am entirely impartial in this matter, but I find your persistence amusing. To reach a compromise on such a petty point I am recommending disambiguation. In the case of Drake (film maker), I believe that having been a finalist in one of the worlds largest short film competitions and currently being in production on a feature film warrents notability. Much less individuals are featured on Wikipedia. Drake has accomplished more in his time than simply playing WoW. Should you do the honors or shall I in setting up the disambiguation page and redirects?
You are not impartial if your work involves publicity for the company that's producing Animals or any other project of Drake. Now please stop overwriting Edward Drake. Until the world takes notice, the primary topic is still the skier. Pichpich ( talk) 13:12, 21 February 2012 (UTC) reply

I have created a secondary page for Edward Drake (director). Perhaps I wasn't clear before, but I have no involvement with Drake other than employing him for a period of three weeks in 2008 to direct a corporate video. Give the kid a break, he's snagged financing to produce and direct his own feature film by the age of 21 and I'm quite sure thats a feat worth featuring. Theres a film with his name on it coming out in just under 6 months, so it is very reasonable to expect that the community will want to know his previous work. WoodyChaucer ( talk) 22:52, 21 February 2012 (UTC) reply

But Wikipedia is not in the business of giving a nice lollipop to deserving "kids", no matter how deserving. The film has not even finished shooting yet. Wait six months. If all goes well, and I sure wish Drake all the best, he will be the subject of sufficient media coverage to build an article. The criterion for biographical articles is that he should be the subject of articles in multiple reliable sources. Currently, that's simply not the case. On the other hand Animals (film) has received coverage and you'll notice that nobody called into question the existence of that article. For now, I suggest redirecting Edward Drake (director) to the film since the bulk of the biographical content is not supported by the sources anyways. Also I still believe you're understating your connection to Drake. If you only had a 4-year old brief period of involvement with him, you wouldn't be able to write about details of his life which are not published in public sources. At a minimum, you have met him regularly since or you have close friends in common. That's still a conflict of interest. Pichpich ( talk) 00:05, 22 February 2012 (UTC) reply

The article Edward Drake (director) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A new filmmaker that has no refs that are significantly about him. Also fails WP:FILMMAKER

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
