• I currently attend UCSD, and I know that the use of these colors is a fact. In fact, if you read through the Graphic Identity Guidelines and Policies, which outlines the use of the UCSD logo and the colors that should be associated with the University, it is official policy to use the colors that are designated by the Guidelines. Additionally, these are not especially new guidelines, as they have been in place since at least 2001 according the revision of the Guidelines. It is likely that they have been in place before that time too. I hope we can resolve this issue without one of us having to feel completely unsatisfied. I just noticed that you were comparing to the wrong template. The Pantone Blue 287 is part of the University of California scheme, as you can see denoted by the lettering UC. I am trying to create a set of templates for the UCSD Undergraduate colleges. I am trying create a userbox that will be located at Template:User UCSD Colleges. Since there are 6 colleges at UCSD, I wanted to make the Template so the user can just enter {{User UCSD Colleges|"Name of their College"|"whether they are a current student or alumnus"}}, and the template will reflect that with the appropriate logo and text. I was also thinking that the simplest way to do it would be to identify the separate templates with just numbers, for example, assigning the colleges numbers 1 to 6 in order of their formation, and 1 or 2 for either a current student or an alumnus. So a user who is a current of the student of the fifth college would enter the following for his or her userbox {{User UCSD Colleges|5|1}}. The template so far is located here. You have done some great work with the ucsd templates. I would like to suggest/request that instead of creating several sub-templates for each color scheme that we use a "switch" so that people can customize a single template instead. I would be happy to do all of the work on this, and it really wouldn't be that hard. I just wanted to get your input. If you are ok, what name would you suggest for the switch? • I'm a little confused on what the "switch" is. I created a template for the six UCSD colleges which is located here. The template works such that you enter numbers separated by a "|" to signify which college you are from and whether you are a current student or an alumnus. Nevertheless, I think whatever it is that you are proposing is probably a good idea, and I would like to learn from what you are going to be creating. • When I was originally creating the templates, I was trying to figure out if there was a way to do that, but I could figure it out. I was actually more or less experimenting with the #ifeq command until I was able to figure out how it worked and used it on the UCSD colleges template. If you could just give me a good example of the switch command, I could go ahead and do the same for the UCSD template. I'll just go ahead a do it on the ucsd userbox. It's pretty straightforward, and you'll then have the example for later use. ifeq and switch are basically the same thing, so you shouldn't feel like you should change what you've already done. • I think you accidentally got rid of the default color scheme which uses the official UCSD color scheme of the colors Pantone Blue 285 and Pantone Gold 122. I guess you could include it back into the template without too much difficulty by assigning it scheme=0. Otherwise, I think it looks pretty good. Also, just a suggestion, how about moving the stuff you put onto the talk page onto an article space such as Template:User UCSD Colleges/Examples? Most userboxes that employ parser functions keep the instructions on the talk page. I wouldn't be opposed to it existing somewhere else, too, but a copy should stay on the talk page.
