From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There's a diference between a biography and a press release, my friend. Look it up yourself. Alternatively, I will request that several thousand of Peter's fans modify the entry as he would wish it to appear.

Wikipedia does not host press releases

I note this edit of yours, which has the summary Changed complete entry to official biography of Peter Lindbergh. The change is made at the request of the artist by one of his employees, John Conley.

Wikipedia is not a place for official biographies. Lindbergh is welcome to put his official biography on his own website.

What you added is exemplified by this paragraph:

Those words were written by Wim Wenders, who recently handed his close friend Peter Lindbergh a Lucie Award, colloquially known as the photographers Oscar. Someone once described Peter’s work as a collection of love letters to women he considers beautiful, be they fashion models or actresses like Gena Rowlands and Jeanne Moreau. It is an elegant salute to Peter’s essential romanticism but he has also photographed a lot of men and male icons, including James Coburn, Kirk Douglas, Samuel L. Jackson and Mick Jagger, to name just four.

I'm going to cut it, and most of what you added. Alternatively, I could retain it, but if I did I'd alter it in the short term to something like this:

Those words were written{{cn}} by Wim Wenders, who recently handed his close friend{{fact}} Peter Lindbergh a Lucie Award, colloquially known as the photographers Oscar. Someone{{who}} once described Peter’s work as a collection of love letters to women he considers beautiful, be they fashion models or actresses like Gena Rowlands and Jeanne Moreau.{{fact}} It{{vague}} [the award? the collection? something else?] is an elegant salute to Peter’s essential romanticism{{dubious}} [original synthesis?] but he has also photographed a lot of men, including James Coburn, Kirk Douglas, Samuel L. Jackson and Mick Jagger.{{fact}}

I hope you'll realize that an official biography such as this is very different from an encyclopedia article. Please also read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Autobiography. -- Hoary ( talk) 15:05, 17 November 2009 (UTC) reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not add promotional material to articles or other Wikipedia pages, as you did to Peter Lindbergh. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a " soapbox" is strongly discouraged. Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. You have violated one or more of our rules, including rules against adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, using Wikipedia for promotion, and editing inappropriately with a conflict of interest. This kind of activity is considered spamming and is forbidden by Wikipedia's policies. Although Wikipedia has a great many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals here, you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{ unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} below this message box.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
