Hey there. I saw the welcome template you left at User talk:Wikitaun. I don't think I'm familiar with that particular template, and it doesn't have an <!--invisible note--> like some do so other users will know what they are even when they're substed. Just wanted to let you know that your comment over on AfD StarCraft etc was an excellent one. I'm still very new to WP, but it seems like most discussions are either very obvious or very polarized. And many of the polarized ones seem to quickly fall to the level of a 1st grader: "Cruft...but Foo has these articles...NN...how can a TypeofFoo which sold Blee units be NN?...*sigh*" But your comment about chess and its larger impact to society in an excellent one. It is totally universal and (should) be easily understood by all. If anyone tips their head to the side and gives you the dumb puppy stare after being exposed to this comment, they can just go. Now. :) -- MrDolomite | Talk 22:32, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Currently on the mama's family page, I have made an edit that keeps getting erased by DtownG. He keeps referring to mama as proactive. This is a word that doesn't describe Mama whatsoever. I have watched all 135 episodes umpteen times and I know this. I even tried to discuss this matter very civilly with him and argue my points, and after few responses he just decided he was going to continually keep changing it to proactive just to avoid being deferential. This is a battle to him, not an attempt to use the right word. Could you please look at our discussion on the talk page of mama's family and see what I have said to argue my points. After he saw this and saw that it made sense, he said oh well, I will just keep putting my word down regardless if it makes sense. That is what his behavior is like.
Maybe I won't need your help after all. He seems to be willing to talk this out now
Yea, srose, I take that back. we're going to have a problem with this fellow. He is being unreasonable and I need your help. thank you

You asked: Hi... just wondering, what was so POV about what the previous editors had placed in the article? It's a sourced statement... Srose (talk) 00:25, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
What sourced statement? I did not remove a sourced statement. The previous editor claims that Jack the Ripper's identity has not been determined. This is just his opinion. There are any number of people who think his identity has been determined (of course they don;t agree on what that identity is), and one of them may actually be right. Saying that it has not been determined is saying that they are all wrong, which violates the WP:NPOV policy. This has been thoroughly explained on the talk page of the article in question. 172.144.107.206 00:29, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Furthermore, if you do not understand an edit, you shouldn't just revert it instantly... That's what talk page discussion is for. 172.144.107.206 00:33, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Srose, may i ask why previous mfd are relevant? I have learnt from then and the misstakes that existed in that project does not exist in this one. Am i baned from making projects since i did bad projects before? Why not judge this project on its own merit and see if i have learnt from previous misstakes? -- Striver 22:52, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
{{ Welcomesrose}} is nice, but it wasn't appropriate for template-space as-was, being customized for you. I changed it to include a user variable; now, type:
{{subst:Welcomesrose|me=Srose}}
You also might want to move it to a less personal name (e.g.,
Template:Welcomecookie) and change it to use {{<includeonly>SUBST:</includeonly>PAGENAME}} instead of {{PAGENAME}}
. Thanks!
Λυδ
α
cιτγ
00:06, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
{{PAGENAME}}
variable. Using this variable can produce unwanted results:
{{PAGENAME}}
code if he clicks "edit this page"{{PAGENAME}}
variable won't make sense, since it will change to reflect the name of the archived page.{{PAGENAME}}
, by using {{<includeonly>SUBST:</includeonly>PAGENAME}} instead of {{PAGENAME}}
. If you do this, the following series of events will occur when you substitute the template onto someone's talk page:
{{PAGENAME}}
finds the name of the user (e.g., "Jimbo Wales"). See
m:Help:Magic words for more info. However, it does not make a permanent copy of this finding - it stays as a variable. If you look at the source code of the page at this point, you would see {{PAGENAME}}
, not Jimbo Wales.{{PAGENAME}}
variable would be gone, and the template wouldn't work right. To fix this, put <includeonly> and </includeonly> around the SUBST:. Now, the SUBST: runs only when you use it on a different page - the user's talk page. Caution: this only works for substituted templates! For more info about <includeonly>, see
Wikipedia:Variable#Substitution.Hi Srose, Thnx for your message! I'm a fully newbie in Wikipedia [and in English]. Therefore, I will be more active on the Dutch-Wikipedia pages. But also a bit on the Englishversion! So sorry if I make mistakes. Greetings, Raween

Why would you say Wetpaint qualifies for deletion but the others don't? Adamfrey 18:00, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
First, those four criteria (first, unique, membership numbers, language) are not mentioned in WP:WEB. Second, Wikispaces qualifies under at least a couple of those criteria certainly more than several of the others do. We have several unique characteristics and we're certainly of a size to be notable.
Seems to me there are two real objections to the Wikispaces entry.
1) It's "advertising". That's valid to an extent. I think the appropriate response is to rewrite the entry so that it's informative rather than advertising.
2) It's not "notable". We're clearly as notable or more than most of those other entries. It's going to take a long time for me to convince anyone of that in this forum but it's true. It's certainly reasonable that plenty of people haven't heard of us but that doesn't mean we're not notable in the eyes of many people.
Thoughts?

Heya, I've updated your edit count using Flcelloguy's tool, since you asked so nicely. :) You might be able to do it yourself, though, using something like Interiot's Tool 2 - it uses Javascript, so it should run just fine in your web browser. Unfortunately, it can be very slow: my 1.33Ghz G4 laptop takes around ten seconds to run through ~2700 edits, so if your computer is much slower than that, it might not be feasible at all. Phew! Your machine sounds like a monster. I'd offer you an iMac (of which I have more than a few just lying around - the Australian National University sold hundreds off a while ago), but the postage might be just a tad on the expensive side. ;) RandyWang ( chat me up/ fix me up) 02:03, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Srose, let me begin by saying I'm not here to dispute your weak oppose of Stevie's RFA. I was curious, however, about a position I see frequently. RFA participants often say that someone shouldn't be made an admin b/c they don't need the tools, even though they won't abuse them, that all of the tasks they are working on can be accomplished without the bit. I've never understood it, though I may well have missed something. What's the rationale behind it? You can reply here. Thanks.-- Kchase T 19:07, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

{{ Welcomesrose}} is nice, but it wasn't appropriate for template-space as-was, being customized for you. I changed it to include a user variable; now, type:
{{subst:Welcomesrose|me=Srose}}
You also might want to move it to a less personal name (e.g.,
Template:Welcomecookie) and change it to use {{<includeonly>SUBST:</includeonly>PAGENAME}} instead of {{PAGENAME}}
. Thanks!
Λυδ
α
cιτγ
00:06, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
{{PAGENAME}}
variable. Using this variable can produce unwanted results:
{{PAGENAME}}
code if he clicks "edit this page"{{PAGENAME}}
variable won't make sense, since it will change to reflect the name of the archived page.{{PAGENAME}}
, by using {{<includeonly>SUBST:</includeonly>PAGENAME}} instead of {{PAGENAME}}
. If you do this, the following series of events will occur when you substitute the template onto someone's talk page:
{{PAGENAME}}
finds the name of the user (e.g., "Jimbo Wales"). See
m:Help:Magic words for more info. However, it does not make a permanent copy of this finding - it stays as a variable. If you look at the source code of the page at this point, you would see {{PAGENAME}}
, not Jimbo Wales.{{PAGENAME}}
variable would be gone, and the template wouldn't work right. To fix this, put <includeonly> and </includeonly> around the SUBST:. Now, the SUBST: runs only when you use it on a different page - the user's talk page. Caution: this only works for substituted templates! For more info about <includeonly>, see

Did you have any thoughts on my response to your comments about flagging other wiki hosting service pages for deletion? I think it would be pretty shady for me to do it but it's obviously frustrating if the Wikispaces entry is going to be removed and others aren't. Adamfrey 21:50, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. Everyone on this list is probably a good start:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_wiki_farms
Adamfrey 19:16, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Right. Yes, it's a mix-up. Well, I'll just cut and paste myself out of here. Thanks for the response. Fwend 23:21, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Thoughts?

Sounds good. Here are a few "non-trivial" references to Wikispaces itself:

...for the really nice message, support, and cake. Something about the texture is just...amazing. It's making me ridiculously hungry. Coincidentally, I've been meaning to comment in your editor review, but I'm holding off on participating in any ER/RfA/XfD type situations until my own RfA is complete. So yeah, thanks so much!

Hi, If you copyedit (which is a good thing, thanks) any more of the shark articles can you leave the between the values and units on the measurements as this prevents linebreaks between them. Thanks Yomangani talk 19:59, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the brownies. Even though I'm on a "diet", I find that eating a picture of brownies on my computer screen doesn't add too many calories. :) Let me know if I can do any admin-ish thing for you! -- Aguerriero ( talk) 19:12, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Thank you very much for the comment as well as the explanation on the Calvary Church article. I am amazed at how quickly things get done on wikipedia! One question, does wikipedia have any kind of spell check feature (I know that I am going to need it). Thebigaster 22:13, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
