Florida Literacy Coalition

SmithG-

'NN-Organization' means that I believe the Florida Literacy Coalition is a non-notable organization, and, as such is not sutiable for inclusion in wikipedia. More specifically, I think it fails the notability criteria of Wikipedia Policy found here. If you can establish its notability using the criteria listed there, then I'm fine with the article staying on the encyclopedia.

Also, please remember to sign your posts on talk pages using 4 of these ~. Thanks!

Notability

If it does meet the notability criteria, you need to add those references & external sources to the article that prove that it does. Cornell Rockey 16:05, 10 March 2007 (UTC) reply

Florida Literacy Coalition

It can't be retrieved, I don't believe. As for notability, it doesn't have to demonstrate its relationship with state and national organizations, it has to demostrate that is notable beyond its local scope. For sources, other websites don't count unless they're news sources. Notability cannot be established by the FLC's own website, unless it quotes reputable news sources, or other non-news websites unless they are quoting reputable news sources.

I will be the first to admit that wikipedia isn't perfect, but all organizations that are in this encyclopia should pass the WP:ORG notability test. Cornell Rockey 15:10, 16 March 2007 (UTC) reply

Florida Literacy Coalition

You're attempting to justify the presence of the Florida Literacy Coalition on wikipedia by the presence of other organizations that don't seem to belong either. Recreate the article, source it properly, & if I think it still doesn't belong, I will send it to an article for deletion process where many other editors review it to give their opinions. As for the other charities you pointed me to, no, at first glance it doesn't appear as though they meet the wikipedia criteria for notability.

No one person makes decisions on wikipedia. When something is disupted many people discuss it and come to an agrement. If you truely feel that the Florida Literacy Coalition is notable on a national scale, recreate the article, add the references that prove the facts you put in it, and we'll see what other editors think.

Please don't interpret my opinion as some sort of personal vendetta. I just patrol newly created pages an the FLC struck me as something that didn't belong.

Please try and use the + button at the top of my talk page to add new comments, and add a subjectline. It keeps things better organized. Cornell Rockey 04:51, 17 March 2007 (UTC) reply

I'm afraid there was no comment period since I put it up for a proposed deletion, not an article for deletion so there isn't anything to review.
If a significant number of organizations maintain uncontested listings using the same standards, this helps determine the norm. Generally speaking, if policies (or laws) are not applied equitably, it can create all kinds of troubles. Ask any attorney. I'm not sure what you mean by this, but there are more than a million articles on the english language wikipedia and not all of them are perfect. Many are far from it. Not all of them belong. There is no way that it'll ever be perfect since it is always being changed. Cornell Rockey 13:21, 20 March 2007 (UTC) reply
I used the process I linked you to above that has no comment page, it just is deleted after 5 days if no one removes the tag. The other process is an Article for Deletion, where there is debate. Cornell Rockey 02:13, 22 March 2007 (UTC) reply
