If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
    and you must always:
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Business' FAQ. For more details about what constitutes a conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest. Thank you. -- Hu12 ( talk) 05:32, 28 March 2008 (UTC) reply

W. S. Gilbert

Hello. The link you added to the W. S. Gilbert article showed a photo of someone who is not Gilbert. Could be his father? Also, the information on the page about Gilbert was rather inaccurate. I removed the link and e-mailed the site's archivists to alert them to the problem. Based on this, I would be careful of that site's accuracy. Best regards, -- Ssilvers ( talk) 20:29, 24 June 2008 (UTC) reply

Thanks for the message. Sorry, I meant that the photo at the university's site is definitely not W. S. Gilbert, and that the text accompanying the photo at the university's site, giving information about Gilbert, has a number of serious errors and ommissions. For instance, it does not even mention The Mikado. If you have the power to correct the information at the university's site, you can rely on our W. S. Gilbert article, which is one of Wikipedia's WP:Featured Articles and is very well researched. Best regards, -- Ssilvers ( talk) 15:27, 25 June 2008 (UTC) reply
