{{ helpme|I am trying to change the link for one of the items listed under "References" at the bottom of the page for the wikipedia entry "James Tierney." I am finding this impossible to do. Please help! Thanks!}}. Rsk2115 ( talk) 14:57, 27 November 2007 (UTC) reply

{{ helpme|I recently posted an entry on James E. Tierney (using a different username account) and the only way the article comes up is when I enter his exact name - James E. Tierney. I want to make it possible for someone to search variations of his name (i.e. James Tierney, Jim Tierney, Tierney, James E Tierney) and still come across the wikipedia entry on him. How do I set this up? Thanks!}}. Rsk2115 16:51, 22 March 2007 (UTC) reply

After a while the search index will manage to index the article; in the mean time, you can help it out by creating a [[Help:|redirect]] (a good idea anyway, as it will enable the 'Go' button to go directly to the page). Create a page for each variation (although don't create two pages for this purpose if they only differ in capitalisation), and place
#REDIRECT [[James E. Tierney]]
as the only text on each one; this will automatically add a new entry for 'Go' in the search box (and 'Search' will update within about a week). Hope this helps! -- ais523 16:54, 22 March 2007 ( U T C)

{{ helpme|Where is the button to create a page?}} Rsk2115 17:17, 22 March 2007 (UTC) reply

You can create a page by clicking on a red link to it, or by typing its name into the Search box, clicking on Go, and clicking on the red link near the top of the screen, or by using Help:Creating a page. Before writing an article, see Wikipedia:Your first article. Hope that helps! -- ais523 17:19, 22 March 2007 ( U T C)
