This book contains articles about the part of Ireland where, in the twentieth century, the form of govenment was changed from kingdom to republic. Of the persons named in this collection, the articles for only two are included: Éamon de Valera (born New York, USA, 1882, brought up and educated in Ireland, died Dublin, 1975) who, in the course of his political career in Ireland, from 1917 to 1973, served multiple terms as head of government and head of state, and led the introduction of the Constitution of Ireland; and is reported to have said of the other, Robert Erskine Childers (born 1879 London, brought up in Ireland, educated in England, died Dublin, 1922), soldier, writer, politician, finally of the anti-Treaty Sinn Féin party: "He died the Prince he was.
