I tend to agree with you - although as I understand it, this is not universally accepted (e.g. Westen & Mangiafico, The Criminal Defense of Duress: A Justification, Not an Excuse - And Why It Matters, (2003) Vol. 6 Buffalo Criminal Law Review, 833).
