Thank you for you concern towards the validity of my linking of the webpage. If you have noticed, the page which i linked to is not a commercial website, it does not include any links to other webpages and it deals only with Search Engine Optimization, the topic of the article. The content of the webpage are too much in detail to be included in the wiki article.

Factsmart.org is a non-profit web site that attempts to educate the public in risk-related health issues. I could write much more extensive material into the associated Wikipedia articles, but it would lengthen them beyond what most readers would be interested in. (This IS an encyclopedia, not a medical study forum...). Please feel free to suggest a better way to bring the information to the readers. [user:Avigdor6].
So you threw the baby out with the bathwater. I must have been naive assuming that Wikipedia is here to educate, not just to pontificate the glory of obscure formulae that are accessible to the very few. As a senior scientist, I see it as my job to educate the public by explaining things in elementary terms. "Risk ratio", and the "Ethics of Statins" are issues that need to be made clear to the public, as are many other issues that the press hypes. However, you have deleted them. To repeat: Please feel free to suggest a better way to bring the information to the readers. [user:Avigdor6] Apr 16, 16:32 UTC.
About Yahoo ads that you keep mentioning - I have invested 2000 hours R&D after a long day's work, over the past 30 months, and $200 in hosting the site. The ads have provided me with all of $1.30. This is a labor of love. I believe the word needs to get out. Wikipedia cannot provide all the space needed, in an encyclopedia format, and even if it did, I don't have another 2000 hours to rewrite it all. Just do me a favor, and before you criticize further, please take the time to go thoroughly through two topics of your chosing. Tell me what you think then. [user:Avigdor6] Apr 17, 00:07 UTC.

I guess this is where we ask you questions. Here's my situation. I'm a college student, and I wrote a paper on Counterfeit Goods. I found a site that I liked, and it had a lot of information. I noticed Wikipedia didn't have a lot of the information that was listed on that other site, so I started linking to them on various articles. Now, is the problem linking to them and not writing in the article, or is it linking to them in general?
I hope that you could talk to me about this, because I really am upset that you are accusing me of being a spammer. I can't begin to tell you how upset I am to see that everything I linked to was deleted as spam.
So, my questions are this: 1. How can I link to a website that contains information about the article topic without it being considred spam? 2. Should I just source the website, write a brief paragraph using the information from the source, and then just source the website instead of doing an external link? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.234.95.40 ( talk • contribs) , presumably Joelee ( talk · contribs)

Jamie, would you mind letting me know why you removed all the resource links posted from 67.103.169.42. I think the posts were reverted last night around 9pm. The links are not commercial and do not link to a commercial site. The links I've posted send Wikipedia users to the site for one of the most respected not-for-profits in the country, the American Academy of Achievement. The site honors achievers from every corner of the world and features extensive resources. All of them include photo galleries, video interviews, achiever bios and profiles, as well as printed interviews. Each achiever has been inducted into the American Academy of Achievement as a member.
What steps do I need to take so that I can continue with adding resources and not be labelled a "spammer?" Also, how can I go about retrieving the links I've already added? I can contribute to the content if needed. 67.103.169.42 18:42, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for your input.
I would welcome the opportunity to add content to each of these sites for achievers.
Is there a possibility of adding a "famous quotes" section to each site, adding quotes featured in Academy of Achievement interviews? How would I do this in a technical sense?
To add a quotes section, would I have to obtain permission from the editor of each site? If so, how do I do this?
Also, by adding content, will I then be able to add the external links to the Academy? Would I have to limit them to just the interview and photo gallery links, or can I still link to the biography and profile pages as well?
I know this is a lot of questions, but I am new to this process and don't want to step on any toes.
The Achievement website is a great resource and would act as a valuable supplemental tool for people wanting to access additional information.
Thanks for your time.
Best,
Sara Spillers

Dear Ohnoitsjamie,
you deleted the link to the bittorrent search engine zoozle.net for the wiki entry in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_search_engines#BitTorrent_search_engines and told me to keep off with commercial or private links. thats ok to me. but now the other hand of the story: zoozle is a search engine for bittorrent links and indexes ober 10 000 new torrents a day. the news section has over 100 000 html pages with content. it is non commercial! there are no ads that would nagg the user. now my question: please take a look at english zoozle and make your own point of view. please do so. after that please think about re-adding the link to zoozle to the "List_of_search_engines". If you don't agree with me please tell me why you keep the links to mininova and piratebay on the wiki page of Bittorrent search engines. Yours, Sebastian

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! -- AmiDaniel ( talk) 02:58, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

What I am very confused about is what other organization/group would be held most responsible for any criminal statistics or lack there of by the citizens of a city? I don't mind rephrasing but I think it is pointless to somehow leave the police agency of a municipality OUT of the justification for why or why not it might be one of the safest cities in the country. Hiya, thank you for participating in the AfD discussion on the Stanley Dunin article. Since you seem to be one of the more neutral parties involved (thanks!), I wanted to get your opinion on a couple of points. Specifically, on the notability claim, it was my understanding that anyone who was a titled member of the European noble class, automatically qualified as notable under Wikipedia guidelines [5]. Did I mis-understand this? There are also other notability claims. One is difficult to prove via Google now, but he was definitely in the news in the 1940s, as he was a Polish war orphan who had various members of Michigan society (including a United States Senator) working to get him and his sisters into the country. Another is that Dunin grew up to be a NASA engineer, and was involved with some notable events, such as the launch of the world's first geosynchronous communications satellite. Another event was Dunin's participation in the solution of the Cyrillic Projector cipher. He's definitely been considered notable enough to have been written up in the newspaper a few times... Can you explain more about why you think that that's not sufficient? Or is there simply a miscommunication? Thanks in advance for any advice, -- Elonka 01:53, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

You questioned the edits by User:81.174.168.63 today on the lion and tiger articles. They are indeed vandalism. I thought they might be using out of date sources or something when I was just reading the tiger page, but upon examining the lion edits, the figures are obvious vandalism (as well as the removal of the other statements regarding superlatives on the tiger page). It looks like the point is to make lions bigger than tigers, which is obviously false (for instance, no lion has ever been 1000 pounds!). I don't have time to revert them now. I removed your prod tag. As I said in the edit summary, I understand where you're coming from and kinda-sorta agree. That article and others like it are a constant headache. But it's a valuable resource and I think most of the products referenced are fairly notable. Not all! We just underwent a major cleanout, mostly of redlinks. The next step is to look at individual product articles from the list and see which ones are truly spam or non-notable. It's essentially a "bottom up" cleanup effort of CMS articles, and this article is a useful way to keep track of which articles to look at. So like I say, I hear your doubts, but I think we're taking care of it. However, if you want to take this to AfD, I wouldn't be averse--but articles like this usually don't fare well there, in my opinion.

It was a very busy yesterday over at South Central Farm. Some of the vandals got mad when I rolled back their edits, blocked them, and protected the article. They took their frustration out on me.

Thanks for voting! Hello Ohnoitsjamie/archive3, and thank you so much for voting in my recent RfA. I am pleased to inform you that it passed with a final tally of (119/1/3), into the WP:100, so I have now been cleared for adminship and will soon be soaring above the clouds. I was overjoyed, shocked, and humbled by the tally, and, most importantly, all the support. Thank you. If there is ever anything you need, you know where you can find me. Take care. |

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

That site uses slow javascript that takes ages to load. Compare Psalms on that site with Psalms on plainbible. In addition, it lacks chapter headings. Not very easily navigable/readable.
Thanks. Btw, I'm not referring to Javascript being inherently slow. ebible.org uses document.write to display its verse numbers. document.write is a lot slower than already written html.
Hi. I was dropping off an NPA warning on someone's page and saw you telling them they shouldn't hyperlink dates. I had always been under the impression that it was good to hyperlink dates so that they would show up in the person's native date format -- e.g., 26 June 2006 is going to appear for me, when I save this and look back at it, like "June 26, 2006" -- but someone might see it as "26 June 2006." Can you fill me in on the rationale behind this? Don't reinvent the wheel; feel free to just point me to the right debate/policy if it's mentioned/been discussed somewhere. (Feel free to reply here, I've added the page to my watchlist.) Obliged! — Mike • 20:58, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

I reverted your "cleaning up" of red links at list of statisticians. I don't know why you did that. A red link is a visible invitation to anyone who knows something about the topic to provide some content, and an advertisement that there is a need. Obviously Henry Scheffé and Chester Bliss are worthy of articles. Those red links are needed. Michael Hardy 00:16, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
It's not only those two that I mentioned that had claims to notability: Erich Lehmann is also notable. How in the world did you reach the conclusion that the red links you deleted had no claims to notability? In at least those three cases you were very clearly wrong about that. Hi Mets501. Sorry it took so long for someone to block that user. I'm trying to be really conservative with my new admin tools until I'm a little more confident with them. I was trying to figure out if it was some sort of a content dispute (was there some question regarding the NJ vacancy) since it wasn't simple vandalism. Do you have any idea what his motivation was? Do you have trouble reading English? The site that you posted clearly states, "Capitalize the first letter only of the first word and of any proper nouns in a heading, and leave all of the other letters in lowercase." The edits that you have made have decapitalised the first letters of "proper nouns". If you have trouble with English, which you obviously do, do not edit English pages. Furthermore, do not remove imforation which is highly valid, ie. the list of Masters of the School. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnSmith123456 ( talk • contribs)
Hello, I have been watching this debacle on this page. As a former member of the School and a Fellow of English at Edinburgh University I have the authority to inform you that the content that you are removing conforms to Wikipedia's guidlines as the contributions by this individual in terms of headings are proper nouns in the truest sense on the meaning. I do hope that this will be resolved. Looking at the history it would appear that the user has made a significant number of high level contributions. As an Old Member of this school I do not take kindly to you deleting the list of past Headmasters. This is vandalism as is defined by Wikipedia. Please do not continute to do it. I will now revert that deletion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MarcusHolmes ( talk • contribs)

Wikipedia cannot provide all the space needed, in an encyclopedia format, and even if it did, I don't have another 2000 hours to rewrite it all.

I could understand the POV for "safest cities" wouldn't agree but would understand.

Would you be kind enough to do so? If not, I will tomorrow morning. Thanks! - Slow Graffiti 05:30, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
Hehe, thanks for thinking so highly of me. I'm only able to work out enough of the words to confirm what you seem to have deduced--he's ranting at you. The first phrase is "his name is bin Laden". He also says that bin Laden is the son of "Ahd Yatim Al-Menzeer", whoever that is. And that Americans plural, don't have Terqah of Allah, not sure what that is. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck! - Fsotrain09 16:50, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Jamie, I have added some new information to the Superhorse DRV discussion page. Would you please take a look at it and comment? Thanks! Meanax 21:44, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
Also wanted to thank you for stepping in in the Atlantic Webfitters bruhaha. I didn't want to edit war, though I think he's totally in the wrong. I appreciate the support. · rodii · 21:45, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

File:Atlanticpuffin4.jpg | Hello Jamie. Thank you for your full support and gracious comment at my request for adminship which ended at the overwhelming and flattering result of (160/1/0), and leaves me in a position of having to live up to a high standard of community expectation. You can see me in action and observe what then happened as a result. If you need admin assistance, feel free to ask me. Naturally, if I make any procedural mistakes, feel free to point them out. (I'm kind of new to wiki, not sure how typical this nonsense is)
The article itself is terribly long and a bit cumbersome...should we consider breaking it up into separate pages? How strict IS wikipedia with that size limit? Montanabw 17:17, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

It was a very busy yesterday over at South Central Farm. Some of the vandals got mad when I rolled back their edits, blocked them, and protected the article. They took their frustration out on me.
Anyways, I've seen you around, and I just thought I'd say you do good work. In fact, I remember when you were new!

There are no external links featuring formatted/more readable text nor entire books of the KJV on a single page. I think the link I added is relevant and a good addition to the KJV page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ollhondallo ( talk • contribs)
