The article was deleted as a result of s deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mamta Baruah Herland. The question at issue was Wikipedia's inclusion criterion, which is called Wikipedia:Notability, and is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about? The specific notability standard for artists is at WP:ARTIST, see also WP:Notability (summary) for more explanation.

There is also an important policy, Wikipedia:Verifiability: "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source."

The article listed several things she had written, but only one independent source, and that was mainly the artist talking about herself. The contributors to the discussion had looked for independent sources, and not found them. What is needed is substantial comment about her and her work, written by people independent of her.

I must also explain that Wikipedia is extremely resistant to being used for any kind of promotion. It seems from your website that you have some connection with Mamta Herland, and so you should read the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide.

If you believe that you can add references to establish notability to the standard of WP:ARTIST, I will "userfy" the article for you - move it into a sub-page in your user space where you can work on it. You should not post it directly (a) because of COI, and (b) because after deletion by a deletion discussion it needs permission from the administrator who closed the discussion (me). If I do not agree, you may appeal at WP:Deletion review.

I presume you are the same person as user Steffenm ( talk · contribs) who created the article. There is no actual problem having more than one account, but you should choose one and stick to it, to avoid suspicion of sockpuppetry.

Let me know if you want me to userfy the article for you. Think hard about notability first: it is quite a demanding standard. You can reply below here - I will watch this talk page. JohnCD ( talk) 22:01, 18 September 2013 (UTC) reply
