Read vs Study

I saw your edit to Alastair Reynolds. There's nothing inherently wrong with it; however, it is common in British English to say a person has read subjects at University, rather than studied. This usage is considered an Oxbridge term and it dates back to when material was read to students in class, after which they were assigned reading material for later discussion. I won't revert your edit because I don't think it qualifies as one of those MOS:ENGVAR situations. -- Scjessey ( talk) 20:46, 16 November 2022 (UTC) reply
