Why are you removing references from the violin article? Theresa Knott | Taste the Korn 16:20, 27 October 2006 (UTC) reply

I'm not sure if this is how I respond, Theresa, but I was just trying to change reference 4 in the list to the new URL. Then I tried to just delete my new reference and it deleted them all.

Clearly, I don't know what I'm doing. Any help would be appreciated.

Figured it out. I needed to change the reference url in the main text, not the footnote. I should have known it was auto generated. Sorry for the foul up.

Thanks for the tildes tip. I think I can provide some additions to the violins page, so maybe I'll do some research on how best to do that BEFORE I begin... Mbartruff 16:56, 27 October 2006 (UTC) reply
No I'd suggest you just dive right in and make a small edit. If you make a mistake it's easy for us to undo. It would help if you put something like "newbie editor - please review" in the edit summary box to alert the page watchers. If the edit sticks, then edit again later a bit more. If the edit is reverted, don't worry about it, it happens to us all, just use the article talk page ( which is rather confusingly reached via the "discuss" tab) to talk about it. Ok Theresa, I don't know if you're still there, but I want to change the Luthier article tomorrow. I've already added a couple of articles to the violin section, which is my area of expertise, and removed dead links from the "laundry lists" I guess they're called. The page could go something like:

  • 1. Descibe the origin of the word Luthier with references.
  • 2. Describe the scope of the Luthier trade (i.e., stringed instruments not percussion).
  • 3. Keep the current division of the subject with a modification. Lutes, guitars, mandolins which are plucked or strummed in one section. Violins, violas, cellos, bass which are bowed in the second section. This is the usual division of this category.
  • 4. Integrate the names from the lists into the text.
  • 5. Do "something" with the spare links and references. Perhaps keep a shorter laundry list or say "see also" or ....?

Lemme know if you approve. Mbartruff 05:14, 3 November 2006 (UTC) reply
